Chapter 118: He Suspects She Staged It All
At the height of ten stories, the wind was much fiercer.
Chu Li stared intently at Cheng Wan; the moment those words were out, he knew Cheng Wan was using her own life to negotiate with him.
She was using her own life to force him.
But he understood her.
"You wouldn't."
"If you chose to end your life so easily, then you wouldn't be Cheng Wan."
Chu Li calmed down, his trembling voice becoming resolute.
Cheng Wan curled her lips, her fingers, which had let go, climbing back onto the window.
She had thought she could threaten Chu Li, but she hadn't expected him to see through her.
She cooperated, and was immediately pulled back to safety.
Beside them, Cheng Mingzhu bit her lip with a guilty conscience, a trace of regret flashing in her eyes.
How could Cheng Wan be so lucky to survive?
Qin Yunshu was also a little disappointed, though she was accustomed to not expressing those dark thoughts.
Instead, she even showed concern for Cheng Wan.
"Are you alright?"
Madam Chu pointed at Cheng Wan and scolded: "Cheng Wan, how much longer are you going to make a scene?"
A perfectly good dinner party had been ruined by her.
The matter of the marriage alliance hadn't been settled either.
Qin Yunshu followed Madam Chu's words, acting aggrieved.
"Cheng Wan, to stop the marriage between me and Cheng Han, you actually faked a suicide. Do you know how worried Brother must be?"
She always played the role of the good younger sister who cared for Chu Li.
She framed all of this as Cheng Wan putting on a one-woman show.
Sure enough, Chu Li's expression grew even uglier.
Cheng Mingzhu hid the guilt in her eyes and helped Qin Yunshu accuse Cheng Wan.
"Cheng Wan, the marriage between Yun Shu and my brother doesn't hinder you in any way. Why would you do this? I think you're just deliberately causing trouble for A Li."
"Everyone out." Chu Li was shrouded in a cold, murderous aura like frost.
The lounge quickly fell silent.
Cheng Wan was half-curled up on the sofa, her fingers still bearing the marks left from gripping the window tightly.
At this moment, they were stinging with pain.
It was just that she was unwilling to show weakness in front of Chu Li.
Chu Li's expression was gloomy; he saw it, but hardened his heart to ignore it.
"Cheng Wan, is this interesting?"
He was moved to anger.
"Using your own life to act out a play, I can't believe you thought of that."
If it weren't for that last sentence, he probably would have already agreed to her.
Was it really so hard to stay by his side? Hard enough to make her risk her life to escape.
Cheng Wan didn't speak; having been suspended in the air for so long, her stomach felt quite uncomfortable.
Chu Li, however, assumed she was feeling guilty and didn't dare to speak.
"Speak."
He insisted that she give him a clear explanation.
Otherwise, this matter wouldn't just pass.
"Do you know this is the tenth floor? A moment of carelessness and you would have been smashed to pieces."
Chu Li was currently filled with lingering fear.
His heart was still suspended in mid-air, unable to settle.
Especially when he thought about how she had actually let go, he wanted nothing more than to give her a good lecture.
"Who taught you to use this kind of method to threaten others?"
He was very angry.
Cheng Wan finally understood the meaning behind Chu Li's words.
"You believe Qin Yunshu's words and also think that I staged this to threaten you?"
Chu Li was furious and spoke without thinking.
"Isn't it? What wouldn't someone like you do?"
Cheng Wan felt a chill in her heart; she stared fixedly at Chu Li, "Someone like me? What kind of person am I?"
Chu Li fell silent.
He knew he had gone too far, but the anger in his heart had nowhere to vent.
"Cheng Wan, I know you don't like Yun Shu, but the marriage alliance is set in stone; don't play tricks."
Play tricks?
Cheng Wan laughed in anger, "Since I am that kind of person in your heart, then why did you save me? Wouldn't it have been better to just let me die?"
"Cheng Wan, I am trying to reason with you." Chu Li was almost stunned with anger, "Don't talk nonsense."
He was clearly worried about her, yet she insisted on misinterpreting his intentions.
Cheng Wan was about to speak again when a sudden, dragging pain struck her lower abdomen.
She bent over and slid off the sofa, a layer of cold sweat instantly breaking out on her forehead.
"Chu Li, my stomach hurts."
Chu Li's expression changed, and he could no longer spare the energy to lecture her.
He picked her up and rushed out.
After the examination, the doctor immediately gave her an injection to protect the pregnancy.
Cheng Wan had no energy and leaned listlessly against the head of the bed.
Chu Li stood by the hospital bed with a blank expression, his thoughts turning more and more complex.
She had used her life to threaten him; when she refused to climb up earlier, was she also harboring the thought of not wanting the child?
"Cheng Wan, do you think that if the child is gone like this, I will let you go?"
He leaned over and pinched her chin, his face full of gloom.
"I'm telling you, it's impossible; I will never let you go in this lifetime."
Cheng Wan had only one feeling.
Utter speechlessness.
His mind was entirely filled with the idea that she had staged and directed this herself, and now he had even imagined that she didn't want the child.
"Look, you never believe me."
Her eyes were moist, yet she refused to show any vulnerability in front of him.
"How do you want me to believe you? Wasn't it you who intentionally let go and used your life to threaten me?" Chu Li stepped back two paces, his expression icy. "Don't you know that hanging like that would put the child in danger?"
"If you hadn't locked me in there, how would I have encountered danger?" Cheng Wan's temper flared as well. "The danger was brought by you."
"It's come to this, and you're still blaming me?" Chu Li was so angry he laughed.
Cheng Wan turned her head, unwilling to look at him.
"That person, the person you saw when you came in, he is the real culprit."
"What?" Chu Li was stunned.
The culprit?
Cheng Wan didn't want to explain, but thinking about it, she didn't want to be the one to take the blame for such a huge accusation.
"You locked me up, and not long after, that person came. He wanted to force himself on me and cornered me by the window; I accidentally fell out while struggling."
She spoke of the events of that moment with a blank expression, describing how perilous it had been.
Her heart was still pounding at this very moment.
She looked up at him, her expression extremely sarcastic.
"Thanks to you locking me up, otherwise I wouldn't have encountered such danger."
"If you want to vent your anger for Qin Yunshu, you can just say so; why arrange for someone to treat me like this?" She deliberately used his own words to retort.
Chu Li wanted to explain, "I didn't..."
"Also, I called you, but you didn't answer," Cheng Wan added.
Chu Li took out his phone; he didn't know when it had run out of power and shut down.
"I couldn't reach you, so I could only ask Lin Qingya to find you," Cheng Wan said, enunciating every word.
She looked at him coldly. "The door was locked; how did that person get in? Instead of investigating, President Chu is here wrongly accusing me?"
Chu Li was speechless.
He slammed the door and left.
A few minutes later, Lin Qingya came in.
Her eyes were red, clearly having cried. "Wanwan, are you okay?"
Cheng Wan gave a bitter smile. "I'm okay."
It was just that her heart felt empty.
At the time, she had heard the sound of the doorknob turning and immediately became vigilant, calling Chu Li, but Chu Li didn't answer.
She could only call Lin Qingya and ask her to find Chu Li.
The moment she hung up the phone, that person had broken in.
The entire lounge was not large, and when she backed away, she didn't pay attention and retreated to the window.
The man lunged over, and during the struggle, she almost fell out.
Fortunately, the man didn't want to cause a death either, so he grabbed her.
Only then did she have a chance to catch her breath, and then Chu Li arrived.
She admitted that at that moment, she had intentionally let go to threaten Chu Li.
Yet, she was misunderstood by Chu Li, who thought the whole thing was staged by her.
Lin Qingya hugged Cheng Wan and cried sorrowfully.
For her, and for herself as well.
She cried for a while before she finally calmed down.
"It's fortunate that both you and the child are fine."
Cheng Wan touched her stomach; this child was truly strong.
Even after all that, it was still firmly staying in her belly.
Could it really be that there was a fated bond between mother and child?
