Chapter 176: When Cheng Wan doesn't want to pay him any mind, she pretends to be asleep
Cheng Han persisted, refusing to let go.
He looked up at the woman standing on the stairs and reminded Chu Li, "Cheng Wan is watching you."
Chu Li turned his head and saw Cheng Wan.
After only a second, he withdrew his gaze and exerted force once more.
Cheng Han let go, even taking a step back, and shrugged his shoulders.
"Chu Li, you were the one who called me to come and pick her up; what is the meaning of this now?"
Chu Li shielded Qin Yunshu behind him, his expression somber, "Cheng Han, no matter what, she is your wife and my sister, Chu Li's sister. You are too rough with her."
There isn't even a shred of the most basic tenderness or respect.
Cheng Han raised an eyebrow, "And so?"
"She is staying here tonight; you go back and calm down."
Chu Li knew. If he let Cheng Han take Qin Yunshu away right now, the two of them would absolutely end up arguing.
Qin Yunshu let out a sigh of relief and stood quietly behind Chu Li.
Staying behind was enough.
Cheng Han twirled his car keys in a devil-may-care manner, "You know that Cheng Wan doesn't like her. If you keep her here for the night, what will Cheng Wan think?"
Chu Li's brows twitched as he looked at Cheng Wan, "Wanwan, there are some misunderstandings between Yun Shu and Cheng Han; let her stay for the night."
Cheng Wan looked at him coldly, "If I say no, will you let her leave?"
Qin Yunshu sniffled and spoke in a soft, frail voice, "Sister-in-law, I will just stay downstairs; I will absolutely not go upstairs to disturb you."
Chu Li sighed, "Wanwan, is that okay?"
Cheng Wan curled her lips; Chu Li asked her if it was okay, but his attitude had already made his decision clear.
He wanted to keep Qin Yunshu.
He asked her, but he didn't really intend to respect her answer.
"Suit yourself." Cheng Wan turned and left.
Qin Yunshu offered insincere praise, "Sister-in-law is so kind."
Cheng Han sneered, "Chu Li, how much sincerity do you actually have for Cheng Wan?"
You clearly know that Cheng Wan detests Qin Yunshu to the bone, yet you still insist on keeping her here.
Chu Li said indifferently, "If you want to stay, I will have someone arrange a place for you."
Of course, Cheng Han would not stay here.
He looked at his wife, "Qin Yunshu, if you don't come with me today, I will never come to pick you up again in the future."
Qin Yunshu's face turned pale, her eyes filled with moisture, and she said softly, "Cheng Han, I want to stay here."
Cheng Han let out a scoff and strode away.
Qin Yunshu's eyes were red, but her demeanor was exceptionally obedient, "Thank you, brother."
Chu Li remained expressionless, "I will have someone bring you toiletries."
He strode off with his long legs and went straight upstairs.
He really did leave Qin Yunshu downstairs.
And downstairs was always where the servants lived.
Qin Yunshu felt uncomfortable and humiliated.
But thinking that she had successfully stayed behind tonight, which was already quite good, she suppressed her unpleasant feelings.
Upstairs.
Chu Li did not see Cheng Wan in the master bedroom, so he went to Qin Ping'an's room.
He pushed the door open gently and, sure enough, saw Cheng Wan accompanying Qin Ping'an to sleep.
She was lying on her side, looking exceptionally gentle under the lamplight.
Qin Ping'an was not completely asleep; with his father not by his side, he was not sleeping soundly.
Hearing the sound of the door opening, he immediately opened his eyes and looked over.
"Uncle Chu."
He called out to Chu Li and scrambled up in one motion.
Cheng Wan glared at Chu Li with dissatisfaction; Qin Ping'an had finally been about to fall asleep, but he had been disturbed, and she didn't know how long it would take to coax him again later.
Chu Li ruffled Qin Ping'an's hair and asked in a low voice, "Why is Ping'an still not asleep?"
Qin Ping'an pursed his lips, his eyes slightly damp, "Why hasn't Daddy come back yet?"
He would only sleep if his father was there to accompany him.
Just as Cheng Wan was about to find some excuse, Chu Li already said, "Daddy isn't coming today."
"Chu Li." Cheng Wan whispered to stop him from continuing.
The moisture in Qin Ping'an's eyes quickly gathered into tears.
"I want Daddy."
Cheng Wan truly had a headache.
Chu Li, however, picked Qin Ping'an up and wiped the little fellow's tears.
"Daddy has to go to work, so he entrusted me to take care of you."
Qin Ping'an didn't care about things like work; he didn't understand, he just wanted his father.
He choked back sobs, feeling very sad.
Chu Li remained unhurried and coaxed him in a low voice, "Didn't Ping'an say before that he wanted to protect his little sister?"
Qin Ping'an nodded hesitantly, his crying growing quieter.
"Then Ping'an must have the responsibility of a man; you cannot cry over a small matter."
"I am not crying." Qin Ping'an wiped away his tears with his small hands.
But he could not control himself; after wiping them away a few times, the tears fell again.
Chu Li's heart softened, and he continued to coax him while suppressing a smile.
"Then, since little sister is going to sleep, shouldn't Ping'an accompany her and sleep obediently too?"
Qin Ping'an thought for a moment and nodded, "Ping'an wants to protect little sister."
He was a man; he had to protect little sister and could not let Mommy worry either.
"Ping'an is truly wonderful; then go accompany Mommy and little sister to sleep."
Chu Li placed Qin Ping'an onto the bed, and Ping'an immediately snuggled up beside Cheng Wan, hugging her arm, acting obediently.
Cheng Wan gave Chu Li a complicated look.
He did not like children, yet he was quite good at coaxing them.
However, children are simple; for someone like Chu Li, it is easy to handle.
Just as Chu Li was about to go out, Qin Ping'an said in a small voice, "Uncle Chu, will you also protect Mommy and little sister?"
Chu Li curled his thin lips, "Of course."
He walked over and lay down on the other side of Ping'an.
Ping'an lay in the middle; although his father had been replaced by Uncle Chu, the sense of security brought was the same.
He fell asleep very quickly.
Listening to the steady breathing, Cheng Wan finally breathed a sigh of relief; she had really been afraid that Ping'an would throw a tantrum because Wen Lvzhong was not here.
"Actually, Ping'an is a very sensible child," Chu Li's gentle, deep voice came, "As long as you explain it clearly to him, he will be obedient."
Cheng Wan opened her mouth and retorted sarcastically, "Using the methods you use to deal with people in the business world on a child is a waste of your efforts, President Chu."
"As long as it's effective, that's enough." Chu Li ignored her sarcasm.
After a pause, he added, "Yun Shu is staying here tonight; I will send her away tomorrow."
"This is your house; you can let whoever you want stay here."
Cheng Wan had not returned because she loved Chu Li.
Without love, it did not matter.
Moreover, she had said she was unwilling, but Chu Li had acted as if he hadn't heard.
So, she had not taken this matter to heart at all.
Qin Yunshu could stay here for a lifetime for all she cared.
"Sleep now; you have a prenatal check-up tomorrow, I will accompany you."
Chu Li remembered every date of Cheng Wan's prenatal check-ups.
The room was quiet for a while.
Chu Li's voice sounded again, "Do you want to hold the wedding before the baby is born, or wait until after the baby is born?"
He wanted to hold the wedding before the baby was born, but after thinking about it, he decided to respect Cheng Wan's opinion.
A long time passed after his voice fell, but there was no response.
Chu Li moved his lips in self-mockery and reached out to turn off the light.
He knew Cheng Wan was not asleep.
She was not making a sound simply because she did not want to talk to him.
This was a habit she had developed since returning; if she did not want to pay attention to him, she would pretend to be asleep.
