Chapter 192: Wanwan, Welcome Home

~8 min read 1,468 words

When Cheng Wan woke up, what she saw was a strange old lady.

The old lady had a kind face and was exceptionally gentle; seeing her open her eyes, she was very happy.

"You're awake."

Cheng Wan propped herself up on her arms to sit, her throat dry and parched, "Who are you?"

Old Madam Cheng's eyes turned red all of a sudden, "Wanwan, I am your grandmother."

Grandmother?

It took Cheng Wan a few seconds to react and understand that the old woman before her was from the Cheng Family.

She was a relative of hers and Cheng Han's.

A relative by blood.

"Grandmother." She hesitated, but still called out.

Meeting for the first time, Cheng Wan felt a sense of distance from Old Madam Cheng.

Old Madam Cheng, however, responded happily, "Wanwan, welcome home."

Cheng Wan's nose soured, and she nearly shed tears.

"Good child, lie down quickly." Old Madam Cheng hurriedly helped her, letting her lie back down, "The doctor said you have been too tired lately and need to rest well."

Cheng Wan obediently agreed and lay back down.

Old Madam Cheng held her hand and sighed softly, "I know everything about you and Chu Li. Rest assured, with Grandmother here, I will never let him bully you again in the future."

"Okay." Cheng Wan choked back a sob.

Cheng Wan's body was truly too weak, and she soon fell asleep again.

Old Madam Cheng tucked the quilt in for her and stepped out on tiptoe.

She opened the door, saw the man who had been guarding outside the whole time, and her expression darkened.

"Why are you still here?"

Chu Li, who had been half-leaning against the wall, straightened up slightly, his attitude respectful, "How is she?"

"She is very well."

Chu Li understood then; Cheng Wan was only unwell when she was in front of him.

His expression was desolate.

"I want to go in and see her for a moment, just for a moment."

Old Madam Cheng mocked him without any courtesy, "No need. When she was good to you, you didn't cherish her. Now that she doesn't want to see you, you have to endure it."

In short, he deserved it.

Chu Li hung his head and listened to the lecture.

"I cannot control what happened before, but since she is now a child of my Cheng Family, the granddaughter of this old woman of the Cheng Family, I will naturally back her up in the future. You do not need to appear in front of her again."

Old Madam Cheng spoke firmly, leaving Chu Li no face.

No matter how prestigious Chu Li's status was, he dared not put on any airs in front of Old Madam Cheng.

Yet, he could not bring himself to never see Cheng Wan again.

"Old Madam, I understand what you mean, but she is still carrying the child, I..."

"If she wants to keep the child, the Cheng Family can afford to raise it. If she doesn't want to keep it, I will respect her decision. Chu Li, you must remember, she and the child have nothing to do with you from now on."

Chu Li's expression changed slightly.

"Old Madam."

"Chu Li, I watched you grow up too." Old Madam Cheng recalled the past, a trace of melancholy flashing in her eyes, "Your father and mother quarreled for years, and later simply stopped coming back. Your mother had resentment and hatred in her heart, so those years she would either beat or scold you, forcing you to study. She was wrong, but her heart toward you was not evil."

"That is why every time she heard someone was pregnant with Chu Bolin's child, she would go and cause a scene. Her methods were extreme, but it was also for your sake."

"You shouldn't have brought Qin Yun Shu back."

This last sentence from Old Madam Cheng was the point; for a family to be harmonious, the greatest taboo is an illegitimate child.

Because of the life-saving grace from back then, Chu Li's indulgence of Qin Yun Shu was truly excessive.

"If you truly want what is best for Wanwan, don't come again in the future."

Chu Li's throat felt severely dry, and he looked somewhat disheveled.

After a few seconds, he spoke again, "The matter of the Cheng Family..."

Old Madam Cheng's expression remained indifferent.

Cheng Han had already spoken about the matter of Cheng Huade.

Although she was grief-stricken, it was already too late to change anything.

The most important thing now was to stabilize the company.

"I will stabilize the Cheng Family's affairs for now, and once Cheng Han is better, I will let him take over." Old Madam Cheng had her own arrangements.

Chu Li nodded; he took one longing look at the hospital room and turned to leave.

Cheng Han's assistant walked over and draped a coat over Old Madam Cheng, "Old Madam."

"Go to the company."

When Old Madam Cheng was young, she helped her husband manage the company, and her methods were formidable.

Later, the couple handed the company to their eldest son and retired. Later still, after the eldest son's family met with disaster, Old Master Cheng was heartbroken and passed away soon after. The old madam, fearing the sight would stir up sad memories, rarely stayed in Yuncheng.

This time, she had no choice but to step forward.

Fortunately, although she was older, her resolve remained.

After dealing with a few restless ones, the rest became obedient.

Old Madam Cheng sat in the motorhome, feeling only a headache.

"I am old after all," she sighed.

The assistant said respectfully, "You are still vigorous in your old age; you are not old at all."

Old Madam Cheng rubbed her forehead and asked, "Have you still not found him?"

"No."

Old Madam Cheng's expression was weary; her three children had all been raised by her own hands and treated the same since they were small, so she could not understand why a situation of brothers harming each other had come to pass.

And then there was Cheng Han; that child knew everything, yet said nothing.

Could it be that in his eyes, she, as his grandmother, had become so useless?

"Keep looking," Old Madam Cheng instructed the assistant.

Although Cheng Huade had done things that were harmful and against reason, Old Madam Cheng still hoped to bring him back, regardless of whether he was dead or alive.

Old Madam Cheng sighed and thought of Cheng Wan again; her granddaughter had a bitter fate, for as the first granddaughter of the Cheng Family, she had not enjoyed a single day of happiness.

Thinking of this, she also felt some resentment toward Cheng Han.

Since he knew that Cheng Wan was his biological younger sister, why hadn't he told the family this news sooner? Otherwise, Cheng Wan would not have had to suffer such great harm.

"Send two people to take over her studio; I heard she still has a production line under the Chu Group, so find her a new production line."

Since it must be cut off, it must be cut off cleanly.

Cheng Wan, the Cheng Family can afford to raise her.

The assistant noted down the matters one by one, then glanced at the Old Madam's weary appearance, wanting to speak but hesitating.

"Speak," the Old Madam said in a stern tone.

The assistant said in a low voice, "The Second Madam and the Third Master and his wife have all arrived and are already on their way to the Yiyuan."

Old Madam Cheng felt a headache, "Go to the Yiyuan."

The Yiyuan.

Cheng Han's hospital room was very lively at this moment.

Qin Yun Shu stood to one side in fear, not daring to speak.

A slender middle-aged woman was wearing plain white hempen mourning clothes, with a long mourning hood on her head.

This was Cheng Huade's wife, who had come dressed in mourning attire.

"He is your second uncle after all; how could you be so cruel and heartless, insisting on forcing him to jump into the river before you would be satisfied?"

"A perfectly good family has all been ruined by you."

The Second Madam Cheng sobbed uncontrollably, her eyes filled with hatred.

Cheng Han leaned against the head of the bed, his face deathly pale, "Second Aunt, my second uncle caused the deaths of my parents back then; are you unaware of this?"

The Second Madam Cheng's body stiffened, but she quickly returned to normal, her tears streaming down, "You say it was him, so it was him? Do you have evidence? I think you are just looking for an excuse to intentionally take his life."

"How are we, a widow and an orphan, supposed to go on living?"
