Chapter 50: Chu Li Offers Help in a Time of Need
In the hospital room, Qin Xingwan had been keeping watch over her grandmother.
Qin Nainai woke up quickly, and Qin Jianguo was also there with his wife and daughter.
Qin Jianguo brought up the matter of Qin Shen being taken away by the police, blaming Qin Xingwan for calling the police, and complaining that Qin Nainai was too partial to Qin Xingwan, having raised her to have such a lawless personality.
Qin Grandmother gave him a sharp look, "Those two have your and your wife's affection, but what about Wanwan? You have never cared for her, so what is wrong with me being a little partial?"
Lady Qin was displeased; she secretly glared fiercely at Qin Xingwan and spoke in a sarcastic, mocking tone.
"She is quite capable, after all; where would she ever need us to care for her?"
"She has problems with her own work, yet she blames it on Ashen."
In her heart, her own son could never be wrong.
"Besides, we are family after all; how could a younger sister send her older brother to jail? It's a laughingstock if word gets out."
"Have you said enough?" Qin Xingwan interrupted Lady Qin, her eyes filled with coldness, "Don't you know that Grandma is in poor health and that she is too old to handle such turmoil?"
Lady Qin's expression darkened, "Is that how you speak to your elder?"
Qin Xingwan retorted, "What kind of elder are you supposed to be?"
"I am your mother."
"From childhood to now, have you ever cared for me? What right do you have to call yourself my mother?"
Qin Xingwan already had no feelings for the Qin Family, and Lady Qin was tormenting her grandmother; now that her grandmother had just woken up, they wouldn't give her time to rest and had come here to nag about Qin Shen's affairs again.
She truly could not tolerate it one bit.
"Do you think that by casually tossing some money around, you can raise a child?"
The effort spent raising a child cannot be measured by money.
Moreover, she had still grown up safe and healthy.
All of this was due to her grandmother's hard work, and it had nothing to do with Lady Qin.
She had no right to put on the airs of an elder.
Lady Qin's face turned black, her chest heaving violently, "Qin Xingwan, you are just an ungrateful, heartless wretch; if I had known, I would have acted as if I never had a daughter like you."
"Shut up." Qin Nainai scolded sternly.
She gripped her granddaughter's hand tightly to show her support, "How can you, as a mother, say such things?"
Qin Xingwan was indifferent; after all, Lady Qin had said these things long ago.
"Grandma, if you and my sister have any dissatisfaction, take it out on me; don't let my brother go to jail." Qin Yunshu pleaded, choking back sobs.
Qin Nainai scolded, "You aren't anything good either."
Qin Jianguo was so angry he had a headache, "Mom, Ashen is your grandson, the only male heir in our family; do you really want him to go to jail?"
"If he commits a wrong, he must take responsibility. He is a man; does he not even have this much accountability?" Qin Nainai understood right from wrong; she only looked at the facts, not gender.
This time, she was determined to stand on Qin Xingwan's side.
She had let her suffer grievances last time, but she absolutely would not this time.
Qin Jianguo's face turned livid: "Fine, I see it now; you are just wishing for this family to be ruined."
"I work hard outside, while you hide at home enjoying a life of leisure..."
"Who are you saying is hiding at home enjoying a life of leisure?" Qin Nainai was infuriated.
Her husband had passed away early, and for twenty years she had held this family together, handling everything inside and out; now, being accused like this by her son, she felt both sad and heartbroken.
"You can't teach your children well, and when they do something wrong, you blame it all on me?"
Qin Jianguo was most proud of his son Qin Shen and daughter Qin Yunshu; every time he took them out, who wouldn't praise them for being well-proportioned and well-bred?
Yet Qin Nainai looked upon them with disdain.
He opened his mouth with sarcasm and contempt: "You taught them well, teaching her to be this kind of brat who doesn't respect her elders or care for her siblings; you really taught her too well."
"You..." Qin Nainai clutched her chest, unable to speak.
Her complexion turned pale in an instant.
Qin Xingwan was so frightened she trembled all over and hurriedly called for a doctor.
While the doctor was performing emergency treatment, Qin Xingwan stood to the side, watching her grandmother's complexion rapidly turn ashen.
It was as if she might never wake up again.
Tears fell from the corners of her eyes, carrying a silent pain.
Fortunately, the doctor arrived in time and stabilized her grandmother's condition again.
He said very sternly, "The old lady is of advanced age; it would be best if you did not agitate her anymore."
The sound of their arguing just now could be heard throughout almost the entire floor.
They hadn't considered the patient even in the slightest.
"Move the patient to the room at the end of the hallway." A detached male voice rang out.
Chu Li walked in.
He caught a glimpse of Qin Xingwan's restrained expression and red-rimmed eyes, his brows furrowing in distress.
He ignored Qin Jianguo and his wife entirely.
He gently put an arm around Qin Xingwan's shoulder, his tone gentle: "The room at the end of the hallway is quieter; if Grandma moves there, she can rest properly."
Qin Xingwan knew of those rooms; there were only two of them, and only the most core members of the Chu Family, such as Old Master Chu, were qualified to use them.
Even Chu Li's parents were not qualified.
Chu Li letting Qin Nainai move there was a sign of respect for her.
Qin Xingwan's battered heart felt a trace of warmth, and she thanked him in a hoarse voice.
After all, when it came to Qin Jianguo and his wife, she truly had no other way.
Arguing would only risk agitating her grandmother.
If she didn't fight back, they would only intensify their targeting of her and Qin Nainai.
Chu Li's arrangements were like charcoal in the snow.
She felt grateful in her heart.
The doctor hurriedly arranged to move Qin Nainai to a different ward.
Qin Jianguo saw all of this, and he was puzzled; Chu Li and Qin Xingwan were divorced, so why did he seem to be treating her even better?
He felt some regret over his previous attitude toward Qin Xingwan.
If he had known that Chu Li still had Qin Xingwan in his heart, he should have restrained himself.
Qin Nainai was moved to a ward at the end of the corridor, which required access control for entry and exit.
The access pass was given only to Qin Xingwan.
Lady Qin was unconvinced and wanted to argue, but she was held back by Qin Jianguo.
He was very good at reading the situation, so he walked to Chu Li's side and asked, "Ashen is young and ignorant; he has caused you trouble."
And the trouble was not small.
If it weren't for Chu Li's bold gamble in the end, which broke the rival's capital chain, it would have been Chu Group that suffered a major blow to its vitality.
Qin Jianguo admired Chu Li; he was young but had great courage.
Chu Li had no expression; to be honest, he liked Qin Jianguo less and less now.
That face was filled with mercenary calculations.
It made one uncomfortable.
He said indifferently, "Qin Shen touched my bottom line."
The meaning was obvious; this time, he would not easily forgive.
Qin Jianguo was puzzled; hadn't Chu Li hinted for Qin Yunshu to bring Grandmother to Yuncheng, which meant he intended to let this matter slide?
He did not understand.
"A Li, Qin Shen was just spoiled by his mother; it's good for him to suffer a little, just don't let it be for too long." Qin Jianguo was good at reading the room and immediately changed his tone.
"It's just that Yun Shu keeps feeling that Ashen did this for her sake, and she is very uneasy and keeps crying." He used Qin Yunshu to play the emotional card.
Chu Li frowned, his tone not as firm as before.
"We'll talk about it in a few days."
This meant he had relented, and Qin Jianguo was overjoyed.
Chu Li couldn't be bothered to say more; he turned to find the doctor.
Old Master Chu's chronic illness had flared up again, and he needed to stay at the Yiyuan for a few days, so Chu Li had come early to make arrangements.
He wanted to avoid the old man being dissatisfied and picking faults everywhere.
