Chapter 51: These past few months, her tears have not stopped
Qin Xingwan took a towel and wiped Qin Nainai's hands and face.
The wrinkles on Nainai's face had deepened.
As she wiped, tears fell from her eyes.
When Grandfather passed away, Nainai was not even sixty years old; after finishing the funeral, Qin Jianguo and his wife took their son away, but did not ask a single word about how their old mother and daughter would manage in the future.
A widow in her fifties with a young girl only a few years old—even if they were not short of money, life was not easy, let alone the fact that the son who should have shouldered the family responsibilities at that time never returned.
Local thugs knocking on the door in the middle of the night...
Thieves paying visits...
Qin Xingwan was even almost snatched away by human traffickers...
The gentle-natured Nainai picked up a stick and fought fiercely with the traffickers before she snatched her granddaughter back.
And the calls made to Qin Jianguo were always answered by his assistant, saying that President Qin was busy.
In the past, Qin Xingwan did not understand: just how busy could a person be that they could not even manage their own old mother and daughter?
Later, she realized that it was not being busy; it was that they did not want to manage them.
They believed that money could replace everything.
"Nainai, I'm sorry." Qin Xingwan held Nainai's hand and choked out a sob.
It should have been a time for her to enjoy life, yet she was implicated by her.
Chu Li walked in and saw Qin Xingwan sitting there shedding tears.
In their three years of marriage, Qin Xingwan rarely cried, but in these short few months, her tears had not stopped.
He could not help but walk over, placed his hands on her shoulders to pull her into his embrace from behind, and comforted her gently.
"The doctor said Nainai just needs more rest, don't worry."
Qin Xingwan nodded slightly; she did not break free from Chu Li's embrace.
She felt a trace of gratitude toward him.
"Go eat something?" Chu Li coaxed softly.
Qin Xingwan shook her head; at this moment, she only wanted to stay by Nainai's side.
"There is a caregiver here." Chu Li firmly pulled Qin Xingwan up, "I had someone send food over, go eat a little."
The caregiver stood to the side and said respectfully, "Don't worry, Madam, I will take good care of the old lady."
Qin Xingwan agreed, "Okay."
She thanked the caregiver for calling her in time and opened her phone to transfer a thank-you fee to the caregiver.
The caregiver hurriedly said, "President Chu has already given it, I cannot accept this."
Qin Xingwan insisted, "This is my own intention."
The caregiver looked at Chu Li, and seeing Chu Li nod, she accepted it.
Qin Xingwan followed Chu Li to the outer room to eat.
She had things on her mind and had no appetite.
Chu Li put some food on her plate, but she did not touch it.
"You've lost weight." Chu Li's voice was low.
There was no color on Qin Xingwan's face.
Chu Li regretted hurting her heart, his eyes full of heartache.
If he had seen his own heart clearly sooner, many things that followed would not have happened.
Now, even if he wanted to make amends, he could not find a way.
Qin Xingwan ate in silence.
She was grateful to Chu Li, but that did not mean she would forgive those hurts.
Halfway through the meal.
The caregiver ran over excitedly: "The old lady is awake and is looking for you, Madam."
Qin Xingwan immediately put down her bowl and chopsticks and went to the ward.
Qin Nainai had become much more haggard.
She was, after all, heartbroken by those words from Qin Jianguo.
The corners of Qin Xingwan's eyes were wet; she held Qin Nainai's hand and choked out, "Nainai, you're finally awake."
"I'm sorry, it was me who implicated you."
Because of her and those matters with the Qin Family, Nainai had to run around and suffer grievances.
Qin Nainai mustered her strength to stroke her granddaughter's hair; she felt heartbroken for her granddaughter.
Her aged voice was full of support for her, "Don't worry, this time Nainai stands on your side. Whatever you want to do, just do it; you don't need to worry about me."
Qin Xingwan bit her lip, suppressing her overflowing grievances, and threw herself into Nainai's arms to cry her heart out.
Outside the door, Chu Li felt immense heartache.
But he did not go in to disturb them and instead left quietly.
Just as he opened the security door to the outer corridor, Qin Yun Shu came up to meet him.
"A Li." She bit her lip lightly.
Chu Li gave a faint "Hmm," and asked, "Is something the matter?"
Qin Yun Shu glanced at the security door over there and asked about Qin Nainai's condition.
She said she wanted to go see Nainai, but could not get in.
In her words, there was a hint of grievance.
Qin Xingwan had access to the security door, but she did not, and she felt it was unfair.
But Chu Li had no intention of granting access.
Qin Yun Shu found it difficult to continue asking, so she brought up the matter of Qin Shen, "A Li, you previously told us to go pick up Qin Nainai, what should we do now?"
She had assumed that Chu Li had a way.
Not far away.
Qin Xingwan dug her nails into her palms, only then managing to restrain her churning emotions.
She had been preparing to go find a doctor to ask what she needed to pay attention to regarding Qin Nainai's diet, never expecting to overhear such a conversation.
So, bringing Qin Nainai back to Yuncheng had been Chu Li's idea.
She had even been grateful to him before, grateful that he had helped transfer Qin Nainai to a different hospital room.
Qin Xingwan wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes and turned back toward the hospital room.
She would never feel any heartbeat for this man ever again.
Outside, Chu Li frowned in surprise, "When did I tell you to go pick up Qin Nainai?"
Qin Yun Shu bit her lip: "You said to let us find someone capable..."
Chu Li remembered; his brows were tightly furrowed, as this was a complete misunderstanding.
"I was telling you to find a good lawyer for Qin Shen, not telling you to go pick up Qin Nainai."
Qin Yun Shu let out an "ah" and stood there stunned.
Chu Li rubbed his temples, feeling only that everything was a tangled mess.
Just then, the sound of many footsteps came from the corridor.
It was Old Master Chu who had arrived.
Chu Li was busy helping Old Master Chu get settled, so he had no time to pay attention to Qin Yun Shu.
Qin Yun Shu realized that she had been happy too soon.
Chu Li had not brought Qin Nainai here; they had misunderstood his meaning.
Then what should they do?
Chu Li took Old Master Chu to another hospital room.
Old Master Chu sat on the sofa and asked indifferently: "I heard you gave the other room to Qin Xingwan's grandmother to stay in?"
Chu Li nodded, "Yes."
Old Master Chu's expression was displeased as he reminded Chu Li, "You two are already divorced."
He gave a cold snort, "They certainly know how to sponge off others."
He compared Qin Nainai to a poor relative showing up at the door.
He was very disdainful.
Or rather, he had never looked favorably upon the Qin Family.
Chu Li did not like Old Master Chu's tone and said bluntly: "I gave it to her of my own volition."
He added another sentence, "I do not intend to divorce."
That day, the incident had been sudden, and the divorce had been arranged by Old Master Chu; he had had no choice.
Old Master Chu sneered, "That is not up to you."
"I have arranged a blind date for you; you will go meet her tomorrow."
Born into a wealthy family, how could one do as one pleased?
"I am not going." Chu Li frowned and refused.
He had no intention of divorcing, so why would he go on a blind date?
Old Master Chu's sharp eyes narrowed, "If you don't want me to kick that old woman across the hall out, you had best be obedient."
He knew how to manipulate people's hearts.
Especially those who had a weakness.
Chu Li's expression turned ugly, "Please do not go too far."
If Old Master Chu really did that, then he and Qin Xingwan would be completely and utterly finished.
But Old Master Chu had a strong-willed personality; he meant what he said.
"Fine, I will go." Chu Li agreed.
He planned to reject the other party directly after meeting her.
