Chapter 99: The Person Who Loved Cheng Wan Most Is Gone

~8 min read 1,472 words

When Chu Li arrived at the Yiyuan, this was the miserable wailing he heard.

His footsteps came to a dead halt, and an inexplicable panic rose in his heart.

It was as if... everything had fallen into chaos.

Wanwan.

He strode to the entrance of the emergency room.

Looking at the open door, his heart sank.

Assistant Wu said softly, "Old Madam Qin has passed away."

Choked sobs came from beside him; Qin Yunshu covered her mouth, her eyes rimmed with red, "Grandma."

Lady Qin held her, also filled with grief.

Chu Li, however, did not even glance at them and walked straight into the emergency room.

Lady Qin wiped away her tears and gave Qin Yunshu a push.

Qin Yunshu hurriedly followed.

Cheng Wan was kneeling on the ground, holding the old lady's hand tightly, crying uncontrollably.

Grandma...

From now on, there would be no one left to cherish her.

Under the pale lights, her entire being was shrouded in a sense of brokenness.

Chu Li approached her, his own hands trembling.

The old lady had passed away too suddenly.

He comforted her in a low voice, "Wanwan, calm down."

"You are still pregnant."

Pregnant?

Cheng Wan was actually pregnant?

Qin Yunshu froze for a moment, her gaze falling on Cheng Wan's lower abdomen, a flicker of dark light passing through her eyes.

"Grandma." Qin Yunshu suddenly spoke up and knelt on the ground.

Only then did Cheng Wan notice that Qin Yunshu had entered.

Her weak body suddenly found strength; she glared at Qin Yunshu with hatred, "Get out."

Don't disturb Grandma's peace even after she has passed.

Tears rolled down Qin Yunshu's face as she bit her lip, looking exceptionally sorrowful, "This is my grandma; I have every right to come and see her off."

Chu Li said gently, "Wanwan, don't get agitated."

"I said get out, all of you get out." She shrieked, roaring at the top of her lungs.

She even felt hatred toward Chu Li.

She hated that he always defended Qin Yunshu, holding Qin Yunshu in such high regard, yet still remained entangled with her.

Her emotions were too volatile, and Chu Li had to take her into his arms, attempting to soothe her.

"Wanwan."

But Cheng Wan struggled, unwilling to let him get close.

She was pregnant, and Chu Li was afraid of hurting the child, so he had to let go.

His expression was grim, his jaw set tightly.

Qin Yunshu clenched her fingertips, crying softly and weakly, "Cheng Wan, if you hadn't usurped my sister's identity, none of this would have happened today; you are the one who should have been the one to go."

Chu Li frowned: "Yun Shu, stop talking."

Qin Yunshu did not listen, "Why should I stop?"

Tears shimmered in her eyes, "Everything happened because she usurped my sister's identity; she has no right to be here."

Cheng Wan braced herself against the edge of the bed and stood up, her eyes filled with cold light.

"Grandma would rather have me, this impostor granddaughter, than you. Do you still not understand why?"

Her face was covered in tears, and she gritted her teeth, enduring the pain.

"Qin Yunshu, if you hadn't provoked Grandma, how could Grandma have had this accident?"

"Crying here, you are disgusting Grandma."

Qin Yunshu shook her head, feeling extremely aggrieved, "I... I didn't mean to; I just wanted to get to the truth of you usurping my sister's identity."

So, in the final analysis, it was still because Cheng Wan was an impostor.

It was all Cheng Wan's fault.

Chu Li softly called Cheng Wan's name, "Wanwan, let us arrange Grandma's funeral first."

A massive grief spread through Cheng Wan's heart; she looked down at Grandma's serene, pale face, her throat feeling severely constricted.

She touched Grandma's cheek with trembling fingers, unwilling to believe that Grandma had just passed away like this.

Her body swayed, on the verge of collapsing.

"Wanwan." Chu Li reached out to support Cheng Wan.

Before his hand could touch Cheng Wan's shoulder, he saw her fall straight backward.

Chu Li moved with extreme speed to catch the unconscious Cheng Wan, ordering in a deep voice, "Call the doctor."

Cheng Wan had fainted from excessive grief, and since she was now pregnant, she had to stay in bed and rest.

Chu Li kept watch by the bedside, holding her hand; it was very cold.

Old Master Chu arrived at the Yiyuan to see Qin Nainai one last time.

He was also filled with immense grief and suffered a medical episode.

Cheng Wan woke up; she was worried about Grandma, and the first thing she did upon waking was to go see Grandma.

Chu Li pressed down on her shoulders, not allowing her to go.

"I have already arranged Grandma's funeral affairs; you rest well here, and when your body is better, I will take you to see Grandma."

Cheng Wan's eyes were hollow and severe, "I want to go keep vigil for Grandma."

She wanted to accompany Grandma on her final journey.

Chu Li pressed his thin lips into a straight line, his eyes full of heartache, "Lady Qin and Yun Shu are there..."

"It was they who forced Grandma to her death, and you are letting them be there?"

Cheng Wan laughed in anger; he always played deaf and dumb when it came to Qin Yunshu's affairs.

Throwing off the quilt, she got straight out of bed.

She was determined to go, and Chu Li could not stop her.

The funeral home.

Cheng Wan saw Lady Qin and Qin Yunshu, as well as Qin Jianguo.

She sneered, knowing this was all Chu Li's arrangement.

Chu Li explained: "Grandma only had him as a son. Someone has to see her off."

Cheng Wan did not speak; she pushed open the car door and walked to the entrance of the mourning hall.

A cold aura emanated from her entire body.

Seeing her, Qin Jianguo immediately darkened his face and roared angrily: "Who allowed you to come? Get out of here."

He had only just learned that his own daughter had been impersonated by an orphan from an orphanage; thinking of everything that had happened before, he felt as uncomfortable as if he had swallowed a fly.

It was all because of this impostor that his mother was gone.

And he hadn't even managed to establish a good relationship with Old Master Chu yet.

In an instant, he had lost a massive fortune.

And all of this was Qin Xingwan's fault.

No, it was all the fault of this impostor, Cheng Wan.

Lady Qin was tearful as she blocked Cheng Wan, not letting Cheng Wan kowtow to Grandma.

"Cheng Wan, you are not worthy of kowtowing to Grandma."

Cheng Wan looked at Grandma's smile in the photograph, and tears slid down in strings, uncontrollable.

She ignored Lady Qin and walked forward step by step.

She had to kowtow to Grandma and see Grandma off on her final journey.

Lady Qin tried to stop her, but was intimidated by the man who suddenly stepped forward.

Chu Li did not speak, but walked by Cheng Wan's side in a protective stance.

Lady Qin did not dare to step forward and could only watch as Cheng Wan kowtowed three times to the old lady.

Thank you for taking me in back then.

Thank you for taking care of me as if I were your own granddaughter.

Thank you for accompanying me through this part of my life.

When Cheng Wan kowtowed for the last time, she prostrated herself deeply on the ground, and sobs spilled out.

Chu Li also kowtowed three times to the old lady, piously hoping the old lady would have a peaceful journey.

He took Cheng Wan's arm and helped her up, "Wanwan, Grandma loved you the most; she surely would not wish to see you in such grief."

Cheng Wan looked at Qin Nainai's photograph and said hoarsely: "I want to stay here and accompany Grandma."

"Cheng Wan." Qin Yunshu's eyes were red as she angrily accused her.

"You have no right to stand here; if it weren't for you taking my sister's identity and causing so many things to happen, how could Grandma have passed away from such agitation?"

She was extremely sorrowful, "It is my incompetence that didn't get you sent to prison, but you are never welcome here."

The fact that Cheng Wan had impersonated Qin Xingwan's identity was already known to everyone, and the crowd who had come to pay their respects felt extreme disgust toward Cheng Wan.

"Impersonating someone else's identity and worrying the old lady to death, yet she still has the face to appear here."

"Too vicious; isn't this clearly here to cause trouble?"

"Hurry up and get out; don't be an eyesore here."
