The object, Chen Qiaoqiao, gets into Yanjing University while Xu Yuexin returns to the capital and becomes an idle drifter; they both have bright futures. Looking at the flower‑like, jade‑like Chen Qiaoqiao still asleep on the bed, Xu Yuexin gets a bold idea: become a literary giant and marry her! “The Wreath at the Foot of the Mountain,” “The Horse Herder”… one masterpiece after another is born under Xu Yuexin’s hand, and before he knows it, he’s already stepping onto the pinnacle of the literary world.

When busy, he buries himself in writing; when idle, he chats with famous writers about this and that, talks new‑era literature with Wang Meng, takes Lu Yao to watch a ball game, and learns chess with Nie Weiping.

To store the mountain of readers’ letters, plus precious ancient books and curios, he even buys a dozen or twenty apartments within the Third Ring… Occasionally, he publishes two professional articles he’s learned, reaching the heavens in this era where spring breezes are everywhere.
