Chapter 3: Bai Weiwei Finally Believes

~7 min read 1,371 words

"What's wrong, Weiwei?"

Seeing that Bai Weiwei's expression was off, Zhou Yue asked hurriedly.

"There's an urgent matter at work; I have to go back right now. Honey, I'm sorry, you go ahead and find Yanyan and the others first," Bai Weiwei said anxiously.

Thinking of the furious tone Ma Jingli had used over the phone, Bai Weiwei trembled with fear; how could she have any mood for a party now?

"It's okay, it's okay, work is the most important thing, hurry off and get busy," hearing her best friend's words, Zhou Yue comforted her quickly.

Bai Weiwei nodded, turned around, and walked quickly toward her car.

Rushing to the bank with a heart burning with anxiety, Bai Weiwei spent the whole way feeling uneasy, guessing what on earth could have happened.

Because she was anxious, she drove fast, even running a red light on the way and nearly colliding with another car, which drew a round of cursing.

Rushing into the bank in a panic, Bai Weiwei hurried toward the lobby.

When she stepped into the bank lobby, a tense atmosphere rushed toward her.

Several colleagues saw her, and their eyes revealed complex emotions: some sympathy, some worry, and some schadenfreude.

As a Gold Medal Salesperson of the bank, and being beautiful to boot, Bai Weiwei was usually in the limelight at the branch; seeing her fall into misfortune, many were secretly happy, especially the female colleagues, whose expressions of watching a good show could barely be concealed.

Bai Weiwei's heart sank; she took a deep breath and walked straight toward Ma Jingli's office.

She knocked on the door lightly, and Ma Jingli's stern voice came from inside: "Come in!"

Bai Weiwei pushed the door open and saw Ma Jingli sitting behind his desk with a grave face; she hurried forward a few steps and said to him in a low voice, "Manager, I'm here."

"Bai Weiwei, you still know how to come back? Look at the mess you've made!" Ma Jingli raised his head to look at Bai Weiwei, flicked his hand, and threw a stack of documents onto the desk with a thud.

Bai Weiwei picked up the documents with trembling hands and browsed through them quickly; as she read, her face grew paler and paler.

"Bai Weiwei, what do you want me to say about you? Huh? You, a dignified Gold Medal Salesperson—the branch trusted you with a client as important as Zhang Zong, and this is how you do your job? Now that such a big problem has occurred, what do you say we should do? Zhang Zong has already called, his tone was extremely dissatisfied, and he is already preparing to sue us!" Ma Jingli said, slamming the table heavily.

With a loud "Bang," Bai Weiwei was so startled she trembled again, nearly throwing the documents in her hand.

At this moment, Bai Weiwei also figured out what exactly had gone wrong.

It turned out that the loan business for Zhang Zong, which she had been responsible for, had run into trouble. During the submission for review, it was discovered that some key documents were missing, and some data contained suspicious points.

Zhang Zong was an important partner of the bank; if not handled well, there was no doubt it would bring huge losses to the bank!

Bai Weiwei's complexion became very ugly. She tried hard to recall the entire business process, certain that she had operated according to regulations, and truly could not understand why such a problem had suddenly appeared.

"Ma Jingli, I really don't know how this happened! I followed the procedures strictly; I remember reviewing these documents, it's impossible for them to be missing!" Bai Weiwei explained with a sobbing tone.

Ma Jingli frowned, stared at her with a man-eating gaze, and said in a deep voice, "What's the use of saying all this now? You'd better think carefully about how to solve this trouble and appease Zhang Zong's anger. Otherwise, it won't be as simple as packing your things and leaving; just wait to be sued by the court!"

"Th-then I'll go handle it first," Bai Weiwei said with a trembling voice.

Ma Jingli lowered his head and withdrew his gaze, looking at the documents in his hand without saying a word, his face livid and looking exceptionally terrifying.

Bai Weiwei bit her lip, holding back the urge to cry, and walked out of Ma Jingli's office clutching the stack of documents.

For the entire day that followed, Bai Weiwei carefully studied every link of the loan business. She asked relevant colleagues, checked system records, and even contacted the client to understand the situation.

However, no matter how she looked at it, it was her own work error.

It wasn't until late in the afternoon, near the end of the workday, that Bai Weiwei finally gathered the courage to dial Zhang Zong's number.

"Hello? Zhang Zong, hello, I am Bai Weiwei from Jiangzhou Bank. I am very sorry that my work error has caused you trouble..."

"What is wrong with your bank? How can such an important loan business have problems? Do you know how important this loan is to my company? If it cannot be disbursed on time, my business loss will be at least two hundred million!"

Two hundred million!

Hearing Zhang Zong's words, Bai Weiwei was so scared she nearly collapsed; she hurriedly apologized with a sobbing tone: "I am truly sorry, Zhang Zong, we are doing our best to make up for the relevant procedures, and we will definitely solve this problem as soon as possible and give you a satisfactory answer!"

"Beep, beep, beep..." What replied to Bai Weiwei was a cold busy signal.

Bai Weiwei hung up the phone, feeling soul-lost, and then saw two text message notifications; both were traffic violation alerts, two red light records, directly deducting all 12 points, so now she would have to retake her driver's license test.

"Ah~~~ why am I so unlucky!" Bai Weiwei grabbed her hair like a madwoman and screamed in a breakdown.

"Host, please note: because the current Lick Dog Value is negative, the penalty randomly generated in the real world has taken effect and will continue. Please increase the Lick Dog Value as soon as possible. Another warning: if the Lick Dog Value cannot be restored to a positive value within 63 hours, the Host will be completely erased."

Looking at the semi-transparent screen that appeared before her eyes again, Bai Weiwei shuddered instinctively!

Now, she finally realized that something was wrong!

"Could it be that all the unlucky things I encountered today are because... because I said those belittling things to Lin Dazhi at the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau this morning?"

"But... but why would it be like this? That Lin Dazhi, could he know magic?"

Bai Weiwei absolutely did not believe that Lin Dazhi had the ability to make her loan business have problems!

He was just a poor guy delivering express packages; if he had the ability to mess with her like this, would he still need to deliver packages?

"Beep, detected that the Host used words belittling the Male God in her heart, deducting 1 point of Lick Dog Value. Current Lick Dog Value is -11."

"Ah~~~ no!" Hearing the prompt in her mind and seeing the bright red "-1" appear on the semi-transparent screen before her eyes again, Bai Weiwei screamed in terror.

The next moment, ignoring the strange and schadenfreude-filled gazes of her colleagues, she hurriedly grabbed her phone and flipped through to find Lin Dazhi's number.

"Beep~~~ beep~~~ beep~~~"

The phone rang several times before it was answered, and Lin Dazhi's voice came from the other end.

"Hello?"

Hearing Lin Dazhi's voice, Bai Weiwei felt as if she had grabbed a straw to save her life and said hurriedly: "Lin Dazhi, where are you right now? I'm coming to find you!"

"What do you want to find me for? Is there something you can't say over the phone?" Lin Dazhi asked.

"Don't ask, I have something very important that I must tell you in person!" Bai Weiwei said urgently.

"Oh, then come to Chenghai Internet Cafe, I'm surfing the web on the second floor."
