Chapter 198: Clownfish (Double Request for Monthly Tickets! Thanks to the Patron Hao Shu Shu)

~7 min read 1,203 words

On the Infinite, three vehicles pulled out from Car 11, led by Shu Qin and Lu Xingchen with a dozen armed personnel advancing along the main road toward Yuzhen, while Lin Xian, seeking greater mobility, built another motorcycle—he and Kiki, Lu Chang and Miao Lu, rode separately, planning to circle the town's perimeter and reach the chemical plant without using the town's main road.

Da Lou and Sha Sha guarded the vehicle with heavy weapons; onboard were Director Ding and several low-combat logistics personnel.

"Shu Qin, Huo Ge, let me repeat: your mission is to create a disturbance. There are strange entities inside those buildings, so be cautious. If you encounter another convoy attacking, retreat immediately toward the train."

"The Master understands."

"Received," said Shu Qin.

"Chen Laoshi, prioritize monitoring Shu Qin's convoy. If anything happens, open fire in support, and watch for any targets approaching the platform."

"Understood."

"Da Lou, Sha Sha, you're responsible for the vehicle's safety. We and Shu Qin may retreat here at any moment—you'll need to provide covering fire if we're pursued."

Lou Sha Sha, stationed in Car 2, monitored the train's surroundings via the sentinel system; on another screen, the 1130's fire control system remained offline but was online in standby.

"Don't worry, Lin Gege. Whoever dares target our vehicle, my brother and I will blast them into smithereens."

After giving orders, Lin Xian mounted the motorcycle with Kiki and headed toward the platform's perimeter; behind them, Lu Chang and Miao Lu rode motorcycles carrying a large crate.

The roar of engines on the platform echoed as dawn's curtain rose, shattering the city's stillness.

On a high-rise in a narrow alley of Yuzhen, Luo Rui sat in a reclining chair, watching the platform through binoculars, a fruit can in hand—his expression was utterly relaxed.

"Heaven has a path, yet you refuse it; hell has no door, yet you walk right in. Brother Ding's methods are still too gentle. If we fed such a high-level psychic to the blood offering, we'd enjoy peace for at least one or two months."

Before Luo Rui lay two walkie-talkies; he picked one up and called: "Fatty, Guo Cheng, what's the train's status now?"

The walkie-talkie crackled back: "Rui Ge, we've been watching all night. The train has many cars but few people—no more than fifty total. After removing the elderly, weak, sick, and injured, maybe thirty combat-capable. Just now, three vehicles left—looks like the main force, about a dozen men. Their two psychic leaders rode motorcycles around the northern route into town—probably heading for the chemical plant."

"Chemical plant?" Luo Rui frowned: "So Ding Qing was right after all. No guns, no cannons—and they still walk right in like bait."

"Rui Ge, their main force has all left. The train probably has little heavy firepower left, and judging by yesterday's battle, they likely suffered heavy losses," came the reply.

Luo Rui nodded: "Pseudo-humans infiltrated. At least a few of them are dead."

"Rui Ge, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!" the lookout brother urged eagerly over the walkie-talkie.

"Calm down," Luo Rui said, lifting his binoculars to watch the three vehicles racing toward the town. He sneered: "Everyone, hide. See what they're doing. We're in the dark—they're easy prey."

"Got it."

Soon, hidden sentries scattered across Yuzhen focused their gaze on the three armored vehicles. Just as these men assumed they'd come for revenge, they saw the vehicles stop at the town's edge, then a dozen armed men spilled out and began searching buildings along the street. Soon, gunfire erupted, and one house burst into flames.

Through his binoculars, Luo Rui stared, his face filled with shock and confusion.

"What the hell? Are these guys insane? Are they trying to search every house for us—or are they trying to avenge the pseudo-humans?" the brother's voice crackled with disbelief.

"They're truly idiots," Luo Rui scoffed. "I thought they were charging in for a fight. Those buildings are full of monsters—they're just asking to die!"

"Exactly. If they keep this up, those dozen won't last two hours."

Luo Rui had assumed the three vehicles came to fight them—after all, they'd been ambushed yesterday. But now these people were directly attacking pseudo-humans. He couldn't understand it. Resources? The town was already stripped bare. People? Searching house by house was like dancing on a minefield—pseudo-humans couldn't be killed off, and it wasted bullets.

Seeing this, Luo Rui's eyes hardened. He picked up the walkie-talkie: "Send Team One and Two to advance from east and west. Guo Cheng, take Team Three to circle behind and blow up the tracks to block the route. Fatty, lead a decoy team—drop a few bone worms inside. Slowly wear them down. Don't show yourselves. That train's armor is too tough."

"Got it."

"Rui Ge, what if they don't show themselves even after dark?"

Luo Rui looked toward the chemical plant: "Then we wait for Brother Ding's side. Once their leader dies and the tracks are blown, they'll have no choice but to wait for death. Then we'll see whether they want to die comfortably—or painfully."

"Received!"

Orders given, over a dozen vehicles and forty to fifty men hidden in the town's corners and surrounding woods began moving, silently advancing along back roads to encircle the platform.

A vanguard team rode motorcycles carrying explosives, detouring toward the tracks.

Meanwhile, Lin Xian sped his motorcycle toward the chemical plant. After the rain, a faint mist rose over Yuzhen at dawn. Lin Xian stared at the towering cooling towers, his heart sinking.

"Lin Xian, you were right. Someone's moving toward the platform from the town's perimeter."

!

Chen Sixuan's voice came through the communicator. Lin Xian heard her tension, and immediately snapped: "Keep watching them. Don't reveal yourselves. Wait for my signal."

"Understood."

Hidden atop a warehouse roof, Chen Sixuan observed the forest-bound convoy through her sniper scope, breathing slightly faster. She forced herself to calm down; everything around her seemed to grow quieter.

Through the scope, the distant, flickering image slowed in her vision as if in slow motion—she clearly caught the facial expressions of the drivers as they spoke.

For some reason, after adjusting her breathing and mindset, her mind instantly calmed. Her anxiety and fear were neatly contained. She savored this quiet, focused state.

On the other side, as Lin Xian and Kiki neared the chemical plant's perimeter, they found several heavily armed vehicles parked outside, over a dozen armed personnel guarding the area. Ding Qing stood in the center, clad in an exoskeleton power suit, gripping his black long rifle. Beside him stood Duan Min—clearly waiting for Lin Xian's arrival.

"So it's true—you really are a bunch of clownfish," Lin Xian muttered, watching from afar.

"Should we just charge in?"

Kiki slowly rose from the motorcycle's rear seat, hovering in midair, then raised a hand and unleashed a shockwave.

BOOM!

The white mist shattered, instantly clearing the surrounding view.

This move, like a god's strike, triggered every gunman inside the plant to raise their weapons and aim at Kiki in midair.

But Ding Qing raised a hand to stop them. His gaze locked onto Lin Xian, shifting expression, then shouted:

"You've already left. Why come back?"
