Chapter 314: Confession
Qin Yun’s Corolla followed the navigation and soon turned onto National Highway A3.
The two Chevrolets carrying Scarlett Mellon had already turned in ahead and accelerated; Qin Yun soon lost sight of them.
Judging by the direction they were heading, they were likely headed to the same place—heaven forbid, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport was the best option for leaving Kenya.
On the highway, Oku let out a slow breath, then his phone beside him suddenly rang.
He glanced at the caller ID and quickly answered.
“Boss!”
He’d barely spoken the word when a hand suddenly reached from behind and snatched his phone away.
“Oku, bring Scarlett back as soon as possible. Don’t go looking for the Crossing of Heaven anymore.”
A serious voice came through the phone.
“Dad, it’s me.”
Scarlett’s voice rang out; the other end fell silent for a breath, then softened considerably.
“Scar, are you having fun in Kenya?”
“Dad, I don’t want to go back so soon—I haven’t even seen the savanna yet,” Scarlett complained. “I’ve only been here three or four days.”
“Listen, Kenya’s political situation is unstable lately—armed clashes are inevitable. I’m afraid something might happen. Wait until it’s safe, then I’ll send bodyguards to take you anywhere you want in the Serengeti.”
“Pfft, Qin alone crossed the entire Serengeti—what’s so impressive about that? Dad, I don’t want to go back to America yet. I want to visit China—I’ve heard it has five thousand years of history and culture, with amazing places like the Great Wall and the Forbidden City…”
Before Scarlett finished, Blake Mellon went pale.
Holy shit, I just sent you to China—this is like walking a lamb straight into a tiger’s den. You can’t be this stupid.
Hearing Scarlett’s words, driver Oku’s hand trembled.
“No, I’m going—I’ve Emily with me.”
“Scarlett Mellon.”
Blake’s voice turned sharply stern: “I’m not asking. I’m ordering.”
Scarlett froze, then her eyes turned red: “Dad, I hate you.”
She hung up without hesitation, tossed the phone aside, slumped back in her seat, and sat in sullen silence.
Oku picked up the phone; Blake called again.
“Boss!”
“Oku, how did Scar get the idea of going to China?” Blake found it strange.
Oku gave a bitter laugh: “Boss, it might be because she met Qin.”
“Qin?” Blake’s voice rose sharply. “That Chinese streamer?”
“Yeah. Qin was in Garissa these past few days—just happened to run into Third Miss and Emily.”
“….”
Blake suddenly remembered the message from Kenya that morning, and a connection clicked.
“Call me before you board the plane.”
“Understood, Boss.”
After hanging up, Blake swiftly gave orders. Less than two hours later, a detailed dossier sat on his desk.
At the top left corner of the dossier was Qin Yun’s photo.
Among the dense details, one line in bold English stood out: Chinese government special personnel probability: 20%.
That probability was essentially that of an ordinary civilian—pure coincidence.
Yet even so, Blake still felt this man was no ordinary person. He might not be trained by the state, but perhaps he was working for them anyway. Otherwise, how could he have appeared in Garissa for barely two days and coincidentally resolved the hostage incident?
After driving two hours, Qin Yun decided to stop at the next rest area for food.
But as he turned in, he immediately spotted the two Chevrolets parked nearby—clearly, Scarlett, Emily, and the others had also stopped at this exact rest area.
Qin Yun pulled over and stepped out of his car, when several figures emerged from the store across the way.
“Qin?”
Emily looked up and recognized the familiar figure—her face lit up with delight.
Scarlett, hearing the voice, turned and saw the man—she immediately scowled.
Qin Yun nodded to Emily, then walked straight toward the store.
Oku, beside Scarlett, glanced at Qin Yun’s back and said: “Third Miss, let’s get going.”
“Not yet. Let’s eat first.”
Soon after, Qin Yun sat at the adjacent table, ignoring them, silently eating his meal.
He’d barely eaten a few bites when a figure slid into the seat beside him.
“Qin, just give me one spot—I’ll pay you five million U.S. dollars.”
Looking at Scarlett beside him, Qin Yun’s lip twitched. Fuck, are old-money families really this rich? Isn’t it supposed to be that heirs can only spend trust fund money? Five million U.S. dollars—just like that? This is insane.
“No.”
Qin Yun flatly refused: “Also, I don’t like being disturbed while eating. Go back to your own table.”
Scarlett’s face darkened. “Qin, five million isn’t enough? How much do you want?”
Qin Yun ignored her, finished his meal quickly, stood up, and walked off without even glancing at her.
This infuriated Scarlett.
As Qin Yun headed back to his car, Scarlett shouted: “If you don’t give me a spot, I’ll get your TikTok, YouTube, and Twitch accounts shut down!”
Qin Yun stopped in his tracks, his expression hardening. He turned to Scarlett and sneered: “No wonder the Mellon family has its fingers everywhere. If you’re so powerful, why don’t you shut down my Chinese accounts too?”
Scarlett’s eyes welled up. “Qin, why do you hate me so much? If it’s because of that night—I can apologize.”
“Miss Mellon, I don’t hate you. I don’t like you. I have no intention of knowing you. If you want a spot, fine—sign up for the lottery. Everyone has equal chance.”
Qin Yun finished, then opened his car door and got in.
Oku’s bodyguards watched the scene, their faces darkening. They glanced at Oku, as if waiting for orders.
Oku gave a bitter laugh and shook his head, signaling them to leave it be.
He’d watched Qin Yun’s livestreams—if they didn’t use guns, none of them were even worthy to polish his shoes.
Scarlett sat down, sulking. Emily quickly tried to comfort her.
“Hey, Ambassador Guo, yeah, I’m at the rest area.”
Guo Feiyan said: “Farah has confessed—he’s blaming everything on Oku Vaughn, Scarlett Mellon’s head of security. Police have already issued a warrant for Oku Vaughn.”
Qin Yun raised an eyebrow: “He’s right here at the THwingi rest area. If you want to arrest him, send the police here.”
“They’re here too?”
Guo Feiyan paused, then said: “Be careful. Police are already stationed at the A3 highway exit—don’t let them panic and lash out. Try to avoid them on timing.”
Qin Yun nodded: “Understood. They’re probably armed.”
After hanging up, Qin Yun looked through the glass at them and shook his head—there was no way Oku could escape now.
At that moment, Oku’s phone rang.
He answered, listened for a few seconds, and his face turned pale.
“Yeah, I understand.”
“Captain, what’s wrong?”
Seeing Oku’s grim expression, his subordinates asked in confusion.
Oku shook his head and looked at Scarlett: “Third Miss, something’s come up. I’ll leave first with Jede. The rest of you take one car.”
Scarlett nodded, expressionless.
Soon after, Oku and another bodyguard drove off first. Once on the highway, Oku told Jede: “Kenyan police are waiting at the exit. Once I’m taken, report immediately to the Boss.”
Jede had no idea what was happening. He knew Oku had been given special orders, but never expected it to end like this.
His face grew serious: “Understood.”
Wait at the exit for the girl. Get her back to America as quickly as possible—don’t let anything else happen.
“Got it.”
After over ten minutes, Qin Yun prepared to continue his journey.
But just then, a car suddenly pulled into the other side of the rest area, and several slovenly dressed youths stepped out—each of them openly carrying an AK-47. Qin Yun was stunned.
To a Chinese person, this was utterly incomprehensible—absurd.
But in some chaotic regions of Africa, it was common. Kenya was actually one of the better ones—publicly, it wasn’t this bad.
Seeing these men, Scarlett’s two bodyguards tensed up.
“Third Miss, we should go.”
One of them hurriedly said.
Scarlett nodded and stood up. Their movement immediately drew the youths’ attention—one of them spotted Scarlett and Emily at once.
Especially after seeing Scarlett’s face and figure, his eyes lit up.
“Stop!”
