Chapter 26: The Beast God Doesn't Like

~4 min read 649 words

Facing Grandma's scolding, Wu Yue and Qingcao could only give an awkward dry laugh.

Finally, Grandma, still uneasy, gave them another round of advice before leaving with her own animal pelt.

The two remaining exchanged a glance and burst into hehehe laughter.

"You wait here; I'll go fetch that stone slab and then we'll return to the cave."

I had planned to divide the meat by the river, but now it seems that idea is ruined—these fish are so sensitive to the smell of blood that the meat would likely be gone before I could even pull it from the water.

Fortunately the stone slab was right by the bank; Wu Yue quickly picked it up and ran, but she slowed her steps when passing the few fish struggling on the shore.

Can this fish actually be eaten…

"Crack!" The struggling Grass Fish leapt up and bit off a fallen branch.

Wu Yue's body stiffened; she had the feeling this fish was giving her a show of force…

With such a strong bite, it's best not to provoke it; she lifted her foot and prepared to leave.

"New mission issued: capture 20 Grass Fish, time limit one week. Mission reward: cutting board ×1. Please don't be careless, host~"

Wu Yue lowered her head to look at the stone slab in her hand, suddenly feeling it wasn't appealing anymore—what to do?

"Dear System, can I apply to exchange this mission reward for a knife or something?" Wu Yue flatteringly tried to request a little perk.

The System decisively and coldly refused: "Mission rewards may not be arbitrarily changed."

Wu Yue hehe…

She decisively tossed aside the few Grass Fish still leaping behind her and ran toward Qingcao.

"Come on, let's go back to my cave first—I'll apply herbal medicine for you."

Qingcao didn't refuse either; the herbal medicine at home she had already given to A Mu, leaving herself with none, so she'll bring back some bitter greens and fruit for Yue later.

After the two returned to the cave and put everything down, Wu Yue went to the river to fetch some water to clean Qingcao's wound, then applied the crushed herbal medicine.

Instantly, the burning pain on her toe was replaced by a wave of cool comfort.

Qingcao stared in shock at her injured spot: "The wound feels cool and so comfortable."

Wu Yue smugly raised her eyebrows: "Not bad, right? This herbal medicine is very useful for treating wounds."

Qingcao's eyes sparkled as she nodded, planning to tell A Mu about the herb's miraculous effects when she got home and to gather more next time she went out.

Wu Yue washed the seashell Qingcao had just picked clean, gave it a quick polish, picked up one piece and handed it over: "Qingcao, I've polished this seashell—it's sharp; this piece is for you."

Qingcao, however, waved her hand, showing no interest: "Yue, you keep it; I have no use for it."

Wu Yue felt awkward; thinking about it, the dietary culture here is so primitive that it really isn't useful.

She then used the seashell to split the meat sent by Stone Forest into two portions, tying the larger share with dry grass and handing it to Qingcao: "You should take this piece of meat back as well."

Qingcao stared, waving her hands repeatedly: "No way, Yue—I couldn't just take your food like that."

Her expression turned grave: "This is food you exchanged for hemostatic grass; I can't take it, because the Beast God dislikes those who appropriate others' belongings and food."

Wu Yue gave a wry smile: "But there's too much meat; I can't finish it alone, and it'll spoil tomorrow—I doubt the Beast God likes those who waste precious food either."

Qingcao grinned broadly: "What's the big deal? Just trade the leftover meat for something easier to store, like wild vegetables and fruit."
