Chapter 1234 - 1242 Long Time No See

~4 min read 615 words

After all, Jillian Carter was rather attractive in her own right – perhaps not stunningly beautiful, but still easily recognizable. Coupled with ’quality genes’ from a wealthy family, her demeanour held a certain gravitas that made up for what she might lack in looks. Moreover, given her family’s resources, it would be hard for her not to become popular.

"She’s definitely planning to join this circle. Without such an intention, why would James Carter and Ms. Gwendolyn Young make a point of bringing her out to be seen?" a director conjectured in a hushed tone next to Jane, "But it’s uncertain whether she’ll appear as a singer, given that both her brother and mother are in that profession. She must have inherited some of that talent from her mom."

"How do you all know about Mr. Carter and Teacher Yang’s relationship?" Jane was puzzled by this, as she recalled that James Carter and Gwendolyn Young had kept their relationship a very close secret. She only learned of it after witnessing Gwendolyn Young at the Carter Family estate.

It seemed to her that in just a short time, after returning home from filming and lazing around for a few days, the world had changed dramatically.

"Not long ago, Teacher Gwendolyn Young shared a photo of herself and her children on twitter, which is how people found out," someone interjected, nodding in agreement with the director. "Jillian Carter became known to the public mainly through her brother’s and mother’s twitter accounts. Even though her own twitter isn’t officially verified yet, her followers have skyrocketed due to her association with James Carter and Teacher Yang. In just a few days, she has far surpassed the fan base of many fourth or fifth tier female stars."

It’s fair to say that mentioning Jillian Carter, who was treated like a star from heaven, provoked a hint of envy in many women’s tones. After all, having a famous mother, a brother, and apparently a very influential father, anyone with such a background could easily swagger around in this circle.

Jane grabbed her mobile phone and quickly went to check twitter.

She had been away filming in another city from King Town, and due to the remote location, her mobile phone had barely any signal. Now that she had returned to the Capital Province, the buzz around this issue had probably died down, so she didn’t see it while scrolling through twitter, which is why she was unaware of this whole Jillian Carter situation until now.

Jane didn’t have much time to browse through the information on twitter because Gwendolyn Young wasn’t one to loiter on the red carpet. She proceeded straight into the venue, hand in hand with her daughter.

Knowing Jane was also present, Gwendolyn Young headed straight for her upon entering the venue. Familiar faces always exchanged greetings.

"It’s been a long time," Gwendolyn Young said after a moment’s thought, then added playfully to Jane, "Little Jane, I watched your ’I’m Not a Celebrity,’ and you’re even more uninhibited than I’d imagined."

Jillian Carter rolled her eyes at Jane from behind Gwendolyn.

Gwendolyn didn’t notice, but the people next to Jane saw it, each one puzzled by what was going on.

It appeared that Teacher Young, as a mother, seemed quite warm and friendly toward Jane.

However, Gwendolyn Young’s daughter seemed to have taken an intense dislike to Jane.

"Good thing Teacher Young didn’t call me ’Monkey King of Sampton’; otherwise, I’d really want to crawl into a hole right now," Jane responded with a laugh.

Because of Jillian, Jane’s reaction to Gwendolyn Young was not overly enthusiastic, yet she managed not to come off as cold or aloof.
