66. Flight

Zhang Xiaoxiao was walking toward the meeting place Huang Cheng had mentioned; since it was not too far from the Enforcer Security Bureau, she had not considered taking any transportation.

But when Zhang Xiaoxiao turned into a street with rare foot traffic, a silver van parked on the side of the road suddenly opened its door, instantly pulling her, caught off guard, into the vehicle. During this, she did not even have time to make a sound, only able to reveal a pair of terrified eyes as she was forcibly dragged inside, watching the hopeful door slam shut.

Still shaken, Zhang Xiaoxiao shed tears and screamed, but her voice was tightly muffled by a large hand, unable to emit any strong sound.

"Zhang Xiaoxiao, don't shout, it's me." Just as Zhang Xiaoxiao was in despair, the familiar voice coming from above made her freeze in place. She opened her tear-blurred eyes and saw a familiar face.

Seeing that Zhang Xiaoxiao had calmed down, Huang Cheng loosened his hand covering her mouth and released his restraint on her.

"Captain Huang Cheng?" Zhang Xiaoxiao turned around, looking at Huang Cheng in astonishment, then glanced at the young man driving; he was the very Enforcer who had been responsible for interrogating her, and also Huang Cheng's apprentice.

"I am very sorry, Miss Zhang, but I had to resort to this desperate measure." Huang Cheng's tone was full of sincere apology, saying, "Circumstances forced my hand; I could not help but adopt a cautious attitude."

As he said this, he felt his explanation was so pale and weak that it would likely be difficult to convince her.

However, Zhang Xiaoxiao was silent for a moment, then nodded: "I understand you, because there may be many people hidden in this city who are uncertain whether they are enemies or not."

Hearing this, Huang Cheng was slightly startled and said: "It seems you have indeed found out quite a lot; tell me what you know."

Zhang Xiaoxiao took a deep breath, nodded, and recounted the information she had obtained from *Fish Transformation Miscellaneous Notes*: "The organization to which the black-clad female assassin who jumped onto the tracks to commit suicide belonged evolved from the villagers of a fishing village in Cuizhu City several hundred years ago. They collectively worship a terrifying creature named the 'Daughter of Gluttony'."

"A long time ago?" Huang Cheng blinked, suddenly enlightened, "No wonder they could develop to such a large scale today; even without considering the growth of believers, the population from that fishing village's own reproduction alone could reach a massive number."

"We should focus on suspecting the locals of Cuizhu City, as well as outsiders whose ancestors were once from Cuizhu City," Zhang Xiaoxiao stated her opinion.

Huang Cheng then also shared his own findings: "Your discovery answers one of my doubts. It was only after Xiao Zhang and I failed in our arrest operation and shot dead the driver who was operating the last train that we slowly began to notice some strange and suspicious things.

That driver did indeed belong to some Abnormal organization, and he and the organization behind him collectively worshipped an unknown Abnormal creature. The reason we are certain that the Abnormal creature is by no means a fantasy is that when we were processing the driver's arrest, he rawly devoured the flesh and tissue of some unknown creature placed on the altar.

After eating it, the driver's appearance rapidly underwent a distortion; every part of his body became swollen and twisted, and layers upon layers of muscle tissue made the driver immensely powerful. He also almost ignored pain; we nearly died at the hands of that driver, and fortunately, we finally found an opportunity to shoot him dead.

Do you remember the group of people in black who interrogated you? They are the mysterious organization known in folklore as the Xuanmi Group. They do indeed exist and specialize in handling such bizarre cases. After that narrow escape, we both knew we shouldn't get involved in this case that would sooner or later cost us our lives, so we handed the driver's residence and corpse over to the Xuanmi Group to handle.

In that battle, both Xiao Zhang and I sustained some injuries, and we applied for sick leave to our superiors, who, as expected, approved it immediately.

We had originally thought we could rest and recuperate in peace, but almost a few days after our leave began, we both felt that we were being watched for no reason, as if being peered at by pairs of eyes hidden in the darkness.

It was not until Xiao Zhang and I tacitly joined forces and successfully ferreted out one of the watchers that we understood part of the reason for these events.

It turns out that a mysterious organization called 'Evolution Heaven' has been hiding in Cuizhu City all along. They have been carrying out their organization's annual Sacrificial Ritual. To complete the ritual, they would have the driver and executioners join forces the day before the ritual to forcibly seize the lives of an entire train's passengers to obtain fresh flesh.

The scale of their organization is abnormally large. We had just ferreted out one watcher when we immediately felt immense pressure from all directions. The people watching us became more and more numerous, and the surveillance methods of those watchers became increasingly aggressive.

From secretly watching at the beginning to later observing us openly, this was something Xiao Zhang and I absolutely could not accept. Moreover, we could not endure those gazes hidden in the darkness like the cold edge of a blade, fearing that one day they would suddenly appear before us and kill us silently.

I don't know if they were worried that we had discovered something we shouldn't have from that driver, but the people from that organization kept their eyes on us. Even though we had already launched a counterattack, their methods became increasingly terrifying, from intentionally breaking into our homes at the start, to killing our pets, and placing objects that were clearly ominous in their homes.

Therefore, we had no choice but to choose to hide and strive to find an opportunity for a counterattack. If we cannot eliminate them, we are destined to have no peace, which is why we had to meet so mysteriously."

Zhang Xiaoxiao gritted her teeth and said: "We must go find the people from the Xuanmi Group to help us."

"They are doing what they must do; unfortunately, they cannot provide us with much help." Hearing Zhang Xiaoxiao's words, Huang Cheng shook his head, "We can only wait for the Xuanmi Group members to return from their mission, and then we can ask them to help us handle it."

Zhang Xiaoxiao: "Then how long will we have to wait?"

Huang Cheng said: "I don't know either, but I know that the danger they are facing will be ten thousand times more perilous than ours. That is the Abnormal creature worshipped by 'Evolution Heaven', and that Abnormal creature should be under the ground of Cuizhu City right now, in that hidden Tunnel."

"What are we going to do now?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked.

"Run, keep running, and hold fast to hope." Huang Cheng said frankly, "Ever since you borrowed the phone from Qin Hai, I bet he will definitely catch up. He is someone I have determined has a high probability of not being a patriot, and I have always been very worried that he will take action against all of us."
