Chapter 129: Returning Heart
Facing Wu Wang's question, Feng Yan did not answer him, just remained silent, looking at the girl in front of him.
The two stared at each other like that, while a group of people on the ground writhed in pain, rolling around, covered in bloodstains.
Yang Xin was unhappy, he stepped forward, wanting to say something to Feng Yan, but Feng Yan spoke first, shouting at the two: "Get lost!"
Yang Xin froze; the person before him was utterly familiar, yet that sudden outburst of anger was not his, nor should it have been his.
As Feng Yan's veins bulged on his forehead and his eyes locked tightly on the two ahead, Yang Xin's scalp went numb; although the shout "get lost" had long ended, its echo still circulated in his ears.
The echoing sound entered his ears repeatedly, throwing Yang Xin's mind into chaos, recalling past events and former times, until finally it lingered on a single letter of severance.
Then Yang Xin, still standing there, jerked his head up, shook his head, and looked at the person before him; he wanted to glare fiercely at Feng Yan, but seeing Feng Yan's gaze made him feel as if he were in an ice cellar.
This made Yang Xin feel a chill down his back, and just then Feng Yan moved!
Before Yang Xin could react, Feng Yan came again before Wu Wang, grabbed his collar with one hand, and asked: "Do you still consider yourself a Soul Reforger now?"
"Force cannot make me submit!" Wu Wang stared fixedly at Feng Yan, still answering with a defiant attitude.
"Some people just deserve to die!" Feng Yan coldly said to Wu Wang, then raised his longsword high.
At that moment, a crossbow bolt shot toward Feng Yan's arm, piercing his forearm.
Feng Yan winced in pain, loosening his grip on the longsword; the tip fell downward, hearing a crack, then a wail, followed by bright red blood spurting out.
Feng Yan smiled, furrowed his brow, pulled out the arrow from his left arm, then glanced at Yang Xin and then at Wang Tingwan, showing a smile as he said: "It seems I do know you after all, but now it looks like you're not anything good."
Yang Xin was furious; this was the best chance to end Feng Yan's game, yet it just vanished; he wanted to glare fiercely at Wang Tingwan and then scold her, but seeing her state, he swallowed his words.
He could only stare at Feng Yan; what could Yang Xin, having lost the best opportunity, do? Aside from standing in place, he could do nothing.
Feng Yan crouched on the ground, tore a strip of cloth from his clothing with his right arm, hastily bandaged it, feeling the wound stop bleeding, then asked the children: "Was this show entertaining?"
However, Feng Yan couldn't see; behind him, the children who covered their eyes left a small gap.
The scene they anticipated of killing Wu Wang did not happen—only a leg was broken—but what surprised them more was that their older brother had been injured!
As the children were about to say something, Feng Yan approached Wu Wang, stared at him, looked at his panicked face, his own frightened expression, and smiled.
That smile frightened Wu Wang; his body instinctively tried to retreat, but his thigh, pinned to the ground by the longsword, prevented him from moving at all.
Wu Wang kept struggling backward, accompanied by blood flowing from his thigh, letting out a mournful cry; then, looking at Feng Yan advancing step by step, he closed his eyes in despair.
"Do you feel it? Their pain, their fear, and the so-called Soul Reforger you speak of?" Feng Yan walked slowly, silently counting his steps in his heart, finally arriving before Wu Wang.
Looking at Wu Wang's face, Feng Yan felt even more nauseated; he extended his right hand and drew his Black Sword.
"Die!" Feng Yan whispered, then raised the Black Sword in his hand.
As the Black Sword descended, Wu Wang felt the Grim Reaper leaning beside him, ready to take his life at any moment, while he also thought of himself as the children's savior, the blessing in the parents' eyes—was he to meet his end here?
"Stop!"
Feng Yan ignored the voice behind him, but only heard a clang; his Black Sword was struck aside by a stone and then landed on Wu Wang's thigh.
Only a crack was heard, then a wail, and Wu Wang fainted.
Feng Yan coldly looked at Wu Wang's unconscious state, showed a contemptuous expression, then raised his longsword again to chop at the thigh!
"Crack!"
With the sound of bone breaking, Wu Wang's thigh separated from his body; Wu Wang was brought back to reality by the pain, seeing his thigh and body apart, he touched his neck—one side relief at surviving, the other sorrow for losing his leg—but when he looked down at himself, his whole heart trembled.
His right leg could not be saved.
Wu Wang's right leg suffered two penetrating wounds from Feng Yan's Black Sword, and the optimal treatment time had already passed.
"No!" Wu Wang widened his eyes, before he could finish speaking, he let out a piercing wail!
Ahhhh!
Feng Yan simply raised his longsword and severed Wu Wang's thigh; this sent intense pain through Wu Wang's already numb leg, his gaze dull as he looked at Feng Yan, then at his severed right leg, unsure what to think, merely staring blankly.
"Does it hurt? These pains are exactly what you should have tasted!" Feng Yan leaned to Wu Wang's ear, bent down, and spoke softly; that low, hoarse voice was like a demon from the underworld come into this world!
Wang Tingwan widened her eyes; she could hardly believe that all this before her was done by Feng Yan! Such an honest, easily bullied person, such a boy who liked her, had done this!
Wang Tingwan reached out her right hand, wanting to call out to Feng Yan, but at that moment Feng Yan turned sharply, and their eyes met.
Wang Tingwan looked at Feng Yan with her dark, tear-filled eyes, receiving only a cold stare in return.
Wang Tingwan's heart sank to the bottom, and Feng Yan's next words made her even more sorrowful.
"Miss, do I know you?"
Wang Tingwan froze, staring blankly at Feng Yan, while Yang Xin showed a smile.
"Let's go; leave the rest to the people of this country to handle—it has nothing to do with us."
"Yes, big brother!"
As Feng Yan's words fell, a group of children followed him slowly out of the courtyard.
As Feng Yan and the children disappeared, the adults slowly got up, then carried Wu Wang out to find a doctor.
In the courtyard, only a pool of dried, congealed blood remained, that dark brown substance resembling some people's black-hearted rotten livers.
Wang Tingwan watched Feng Yan and the children leave, then told Yang Xin beside her: "Let's go; there's nothing to see here either."
"Please wait a moment!"
A voice suddenly came from inside the house, stopping the two, then continued: "It must be my confidant who brought you two here; those who come here are guests, please, both of you, come inside for a talk."
"A talk? I don't see your sincerity; then first show your sincerity!" Yang Xin replied.
"My appearance is ugly..."
Before he could finish, Yang Xin cut him off, arrogantly and unreasonably refusing: "Since you're ugly, don't come out to be a demon."
"Let's go."
Wang Tingwan uttered those two words; as the two slowly departed, the person only then poked his head out, confirming they had gone far, then spoke: "After all, they're young, always unaware of propriety, but those who teach propriety use vile means—does their teaching count as good?"
Gurgle gurgle...
As the sky's darkness slowly faded, revealing a fiery red sunrise, the morning's cold wind made one feel none of the sunlight's warmth, only a piercing chill.
"Is this it? Has the severe cold of winter arrived?"
After a heavy rain, the weather in Power State changed quickly; just a few days ago it was clearly short-sleeve weather, but now one has to wear thick clothes to keep out the cold.
Feng Yan did not feel the severe cold; he only felt the weather had turned a bit cool. He turned his head to look at the children behind him, all of whom had little red faces.
"You guys? Are you cold or hot?" Feng Yan asked the children.
"What do you say, big brother?"
The children retorted, but Feng Yan simply shook his head, leaving them puzzled as he said, "I don't know either; anyway, I don't feel cold!"
"However, since you say you're cold, I'll go buy some cotton jackets back." Feng Yan told the children.
As a result, the children's reply the next second left Feng Yan even more puzzled.
"Can't buy..."
"Why?" Feng Yan found it strange and pressed further.
"White cotton is naturally a rare item in our country; even the families of the upper class couldn't possibly each have one, so forget it, big brother." A child told Feng Yan the true situation with a heavy heart, and meanwhile the children all lowered their heads, their mood also sinking.
"Well then, I'll go buy them!" Feng Yan patted his chest, confidently asking the children, "So where is the clothing store?"
"Big brother, are you ready?" a child asked again.
"Since it's severe cold, you should also put on the clothes you ought to wear, then go see your parents, right?" Feng Yan answered the children's words, slowly expressing his thought.
"No!" the children shouted together, leaving Feng Yan quite puzzled.
"Are there children who don't want to go home? Who don't want to see their own parents?"
Feng Yan was momentarily confused, but the next moment he understood.
So that's the problem!
