Chapter 57: Evil Spirit

~6 min read 1,011 words

"Deng... Professor Dengbulido... H... Hagrid..."

The man wearing a purple headscarf looked extremely nervous, his hands tightly tangled together in front of his chest, and his speech was a bit stammering.

"Professor Quirrell, you're here," Dengbulido nodded when he saw Quirrell.

"Professor Quirrell, a unicorn in the Forbidden Forest was attacked; I suspect it's related to black Magic, so please come and take a look," Hagrid said.

Quirrell listened to Hagrid, but his gaze didn't fall on the unicorn lying nearby; instead it rested on Harry and Dali.

"Oh, I forgot to introduce them—this is Harry Potter, and here are Dali and Luoen," Hagrid gave a brief introduction.

"Very... very honored to meet you,"

Quirrell said nervously.

"We are also honored to meet you, Professor," Harry replied politely.

Quirrell forced an ugly smile, turned to the unicorn's side, crouched down, and carefully examined its condition.

"Und... without a doubt, it's black Magic... who on earth would attack such a pure creature?"

Quirrell stammered.

"Same as my conclusion,"

Dengbulido walked over, and the two began discussing exactly what kind of black Magic had wounded the unicorn.

Meanwhile, Dali watched Professor Quirrell.

From the moment the man entered the room, Dali sensed a faint evil aura and some abnormal, discordant elements.

The feeling made Dali extremely vigilant.

Seeing Professor Quirrell turn his back to him and begin discussing black Magic with Professor Dengbulido, Dali quietly activated Spiritual Sight, intending to closely examine Quirrell's condition.

"This is..."

In an instant, Dali's pupils contracted.

Under Spiritual Sight, Professor Quirrell was surrounded by black vapors, as if immersed in a dense black mist; the colored lights visible to ordinary people were almost gone, leaving only a thick darkness.

Especially at the back of his head, where it was pitch black, almost nothing could be seen, as if a bottomless abyss.

Dali was astonished.

He immediately harnessed his spiritual power, focusing it into his eyes, hoping to see what lay within the endless black mist.

Suddenly.

Dali's complexion changed.

Deep within the black mist, a face twisted to the extreme seemed to coalesce—features cramped together, almost no nose, its eyelids trembling slightly as if about to open and meet Dali's gaze.

Without any hesitation, Dali immediately shut off Spiritual Sight and looked at Harry beside him.

"What's wrong?"

Harry noticed Dali's complexion seemed off and asked with Doubt.

"Nothing, my eyes feel a bit uncomfortable,"

Dali blinked and said.

"Got dust in them? Want me to blow it out?" Harry asked.

"No, it's fine,"

Dali forced himself to blink again and said.

"Alright,"

Harry didn't think further and kept listening to the discussion between Professor Dengbulido and Professor Quirrell, even though he didn't understand.

Dali let out a slight breath.

"Inside Quirrell, there's another soul, and it appears extremely evil,"

Dali's complexion grew solemn.

He wasn't sure whether the soul hidden in the dense black mist had noticed him.

Most likely it hadn't, but his Spiritual Sight should have drawn the soul's attention.

"Quirrell, what's the situation—learning from the Red Priest? Soul fusion, parasitism, or something else?"

Dali was puzzled.

He also couldn't discern the soul's exact condition.

Given his Knowledge and experiences in that Guiyi Shijie, such a case was extremely rare.

What impressed him most was the Angel King—the Red Priest Medichi, a malevolent spirit formed from three fused souls, each immensely powerful.

"Too many details escape me; I don't know if Quirrell's case is similar to the Red Priest's,"

Dali thought to himself.

His memories of many mysterious things had been sealed—not a bad thing, but a protective mechanism. With his current strength, the more he knows, the easier he is polluted, even to the point of losing control.

Although this world has cut off most risks of losing control, it isn't absolutely safe; Dali still needs to stay vigilant at all times.

Just now, when he saw that soul, it triggered a memory, recalling some details about the Red Priest Medichi.

The two share far too many similarities.

"That soul seems weak, yet its aura is so evil; it can't be a simple creature..."

"Should we report it?"

Dali pondered.

"Or perhaps, in the Magic World, soul coexistence is fairly normal and not worth surprising over?"

Dali wasn't quite sure.

Whether in the Magic World or that Guiyi Shijie, an evil aura isn't the sole measure of a person's goodness, because the evil aura on them may have been acquired from elsewhere for some reason.

At least in the Magic World, Dali has already found several people bearing evil auras.

For example Quirrell, for example Ma Er Fu's father Lu Xiusi, and even Snape himself, all have a faint evil aura. Although these people are not good, just because of the evil aura they are judged to be evil themselves, which is Obviously problematic.

Quirrell's situation is even more unusual.

He may have been parasitized by some evil spirit, or may have merged voluntarily; Dali cannot determine the exact situation.

"This school is far more dangerous than I expected, literally a surprise every day, even a fright."

Dali thought to himself.

"Harry, Dali, Ron, it's getting late, you should go back first; we'll take care of things here."

Professor Dengbulido suddenly addressed Dali and the two others.

"Alright."

The three answered with a nod.

It was already dark outside; they really should return to the castle.

"I'll see them off."

Hagrid said.

After the unicorn attack just now, Hagrid didn't feel comfortable letting the three return to the castle on their own.

Professor Dengbulido nodded; that was exactly his intention.

"... See you later, you'll soon... be in my class," Professor Quirrell forced a nervous smile.

His gaze swept over Harry, lingered on Dali for a moment, then withdrew, and he continued discussing dark magic with Professor Dengbulido.

A cold wind brushed their faces as they stepped out of Hagrid's cabin, and everyone couldn't help but shiver.

Under the night sky, Hogwarts Castle was lit with a dim amber glow, revealing its massive silhouette that resembled a great beast, quietly hiding in the darkness.
