Chapter 58: Advancement and Humanity
Along the way, Ron and Harry were having a heated discussion about the unicorn attack, speculating whether a dark wizard had infiltrated Hogwarts.
Hagrid repeatedly emphasized that with Professor Dengbulido at the school, Hogwarts was the safest place, telling Harry and the others not to worry.
Dali, however, said nothing and fell into thought.
He kept pondering whether to tell Dengbulido about Quirrell's situation; the evil spirit inside him was clearly extraordinary and could bring disaster to Hogwarts.
But he could not handle it himself; he did not want too many eyes focused on him.
Perhaps an anonymous report is a good solution.
"Only, do I really have to get involved in these disputes?"
Dali still hadn't decided.
Being meddlesome and curious often means trouble.
After Hagrid sent the three into the castle, he left.
Dali followed behind Harry and Ron, walking toward the Gryffindor tower.
Suddenly.
Dali's expression shifted; something inside his body vanished.
"The lawyer and arbitrator's Extraordinary Trait finally digested."
Dali felt the Extraordinary Trait inside him had fully merged with his body.
At the same time, he sensed two new gelatinous masses appearing inside him, which were the Barbarian and Law Enforcement Officer's Extraordinary Traits.
"It seems the subsequent Sequence's Extraordinary Traits are sealed in my body in some way; as soon as I digest the previous stage's Extraordinary Trait, the next ones appear."
Dali confirmed his earlier conjecture.
"However, that also means the Extraordinary Trait in my body didn't appear out of thin air, but came from the Magic Pills I previously took; all I need to do now is digest them again."
"That also means that the highest point I can reach in this world is the same as the highest point I reached in that mysterious world."
Dali had determined that if he reached demi‑god level in the mysterious world in his previous life, this time he could at most reach demi‑god level, because in the later Sequence he would have no Extraordinary Traits left.
"Then, in that world, exactly which Sequence did I reach?"
Dali pondered briefly and stopped thinking further.
Obviously, those memories could not be triggered now.
Without further pondering the issue, Dali tried to absorb the two internal Extraordinary Traits; this was not very difficult for him.
A long‑missed babble reached his ears, jolting his spirit, while tangled lights surrounded him, making him a bit dizzy.
But soon, the sounds were suppressed.
As Dali had previously discovered, the risk of losing control in this world had decreased considerably.
"Dali, what's wrong?"
Harry and Ron argued about walking far out, then suddenly noticed Dali standing still, so they ran back.
"It's nothing, I thought of something."
Dali smiled and said.
"What matter?"
Harry looked at Dali, feeling that something had changed about him, but he couldn't put it into words.
"I think the dark wizard who attacked the unicorn was simply after something on the unicorn; it's unlikely he'll target us students," Dali said with a faint smile.
"So we don't need to worry too much."
"How can that be? Even attacking a unicorn is extremely evil and dangerous; we must be cautious and warn others," Ron said.
Harry also nodded, "The castle might not be absolutely safe either."
Dali helplessly shook his head, "Rest assured, even if something happens, it won't fall on us; we needn't worry too much."
With him present, many dangers could be avoided.
"But these things could fall on other people," Harry frowned.
Dali pressed his lips together, pondered briefly, and said, "What does that have to do with us?"
Harry and Ron exchanged glances, both showing surprise.
"Maybe it's my illusion, Dali, you seem very... uh... indifferent..." Harry said cautiously.
Actually, he had meant to say cold, but felt the word was too harsh.
"Is that so?" Dali was startled.
Harry nodded.
"You haven't really made friends at school; so far only Ron, or also Hermione, are relatively familiar with you; with others you have hardly interacted."
"And your meaning just now, does it imply that as long as we're safe, other people's lives don't matter?"
Harry frowned and said.
Ron immediately added, "Also, sometimes you seem detached from us, rarely joining our activities or discussions."
"Is that so?" Dali mused.
"Hmm."
Harry and Ron instantly nodded.
Dali squinted.
Perhaps having experienced too much, after returning from that world he sees many things too clearly, losing much enthusiasm.
Of Course, it could also be the influence of the Extraordinary Trait.
"I understand, I'll be more careful in the future."
Dali nodded.
"Alright, we're just reminding you, not thinking there's something wrong with you," Ron quickly said.
"Yes, don't think too much." Harry also said.
"I understand."
Dali nodded, lost in thought as he walked ahead.
He suddenly realized a problem.
If he had once reached a high Sequence in that strange world, how much humanity would remain within him—?
This question made Dali's hairs stand on end instantly, breaking out in a cold sweat.
Originally, he had already decided not to get involved in Quirrell's affairs, because even if Quirrell housed an evil spirit, it had nothing to do with him.
As long as Quirrell didn't act against him, Harry, and the others, he couldn't be bothered to intervene; he could calmly observe the whole situation's development without interfering.
But when Harry asked whether he didn't care about others' lives or deaths, he felt that such an approach was indeed overly cold.
"If it were the Tarot Society, how would they choose?"
Dali pondered for a moment.
"They would probably choose to intervene; at the very least, the Fool would go to the church to make an anonymous report."
Dali chuckled lightly, as if he had thought of something amusing.
"Let's see how things go; find an opportunity to anonymously report that Professor Quirrell."
Having figured this out, Dali didn't linger in the Gryffindor common room; he went back to the dormitory to rest first.
Having just absorbed two Extraordinary Traits, he needed to rest a bit.
