Cao Chuan is a struggling extra on a Hengdian film set when a bizarre accident with a prop ring sends him hurtling through time. He lands in the mountains of Jiangnan during the late Ming dynasty, right in the middle of a bandit stronghold's drinking party. Mistaken for a ghost or a monster, the quick-thinking actor draws on his years of playing scholars and Daoists to bluff his way out of danger, introducing himself as an immortal cultivator from the mythical West Kunlun realm.

The bandits, awed by his mysterious appearance and smooth talk, welcome him as an honored guest. Now stranded in a chaotic era on the brink of collapse, Cao Chuan must use every ounce of his modern wit and acting skill to maintain his divine facade, navigate the treacherous politics of outlaws and desperate villagers, and carve out a place for himself in a world where a single misstep could mean a very real and permanent death.
