Chapter 129: Rebirth Plan
Robin took the badge, gave it a solemn glance, and then stored it away.
He waved his hand, signaling everyone to evacuate quickly.
The three Great Knights immediately sprang into action; one hoisted the unconscious Akton, another took charge of watch, and the last cleared the path ahead.
Just as they were about to leave the study, a sudden rapid footfall and noisy shouts came from outside.
Clearly, Akton's guards had already sensed something amiss and were rushing over.
"Move!" Robin barked low, leading the group to swiftly withdraw from the study's secret passage.
This secret passage is the hidden corridor of Marquis Sonata's manor, leading directly to a narrow alley outside the estate.
Robin had already planned the retreat, ensuring they could escape safely before the guards arrived.
As long as Akton disappears, Marquis Sonata will have an excuse to purge the manor's guards and eliminate those insiders completely.
In the passage, Ailina hurried forward while whispering, "Robin, the Forbidden Magic Hand you just used… how did you manage that? That should be a tool only Wizards can wield."
Robin was silent for a moment, then answered softly, "It's one of Marquis Sonata's secret weapons. He foresaw Akton would use a magical shield, so he gave me the Forbidden Magic Hand in advance. I can't control it fully like a Wizard, but at a crucial moment it can break Akton's defense."
Ailina nodded, a flash of admiration in her eyes: "Marquis Sonata truly is far‑sighted."
Robin said nothing more, leading the group swiftly through the passage, finally emerging from the narrow alley outside the manor.
Outside the alley, a carriage prepared in advance was waiting for them.
The driver, seeing Robin and the others, immediately opened the carriage door, signaling them to board.
Robin tossed Akton into the carriage, then boarded together with Ailina and the three Great Knights.
The carriage surged forward, racing toward the outskirts of the city.
Inside the carriage, Robin took out the badge of the Wizard Council and examined it closely.
The badge bore a winged raven, with a hand reaching upward at the base, surrounded by intricate Runes.
Robin's brows furrowed slightly, and he murmured, "This isn't the official emblem of the Wizard Council… what exactly is this?"
Ailina leaned in, whispering, "Perhaps Zhang Boren's side has obtained more intel. Once we rendezvous with him, everything will become clearer."
Robin nodded, a hint of resolve flashing in his eyes: "Regardless, we've captured Akton. Next, we must pry more secrets about the Wizard Council from his mouth."
The carriage sped through the night, heading toward a secret base outside the city.
Meanwhile, at another hidden spot in Obedi City, Zhang Boren was meeting with the leader of the "Silver Fox" resistance.
He received a thick dossier from the other party, excitement flashing in his eyes.
"This is the list of recent personnel movements by the Wizard Council, detailing their actions after entering the city," Silver Fox leader Laina whispered, "You must act quickly, or it will be too late."
Zhang Boren nodded, swiftly filing the documents away: "I'll deliver this intel to Allen immediately. Thanks for your help."
Laina gave a slight smile, her tone carrying a hint of meaning: "We share the same goal. I hope you succeed."
Zhang Boren said nothing further, quickly leaving the meeting place and hurrying toward the rendezvous point agreed with Robin.
This list will completely change the situation, and their actions will enter the most critical moment.
The day after Akton's disappearance, Morris received word that the Wizard Council had sent someone to inform him that Marquis Sonata had begun clearing the manor of Wizard Council members, while also recalling the two Legendary Knights to his side.
This enraged the Wizard Council, and the city defense army also dispatched massive forces to capture those of the Wizard Council who had entered Obedi City; many nobles previously forced by the Wizard Council also responded in kind, and for a time the whole city was swarming with arrests, even the Wizard Council's western headquarters was besieged by the army.
"How dare they!" the western commander, Cres, roared.
Cres's roar echoed through the meeting hall of the Wizard Council's western headquarters; his face turned ashen, his fist pounding the table so hard the documents and cups jumped.
Other senior members of the Wizard Council in the hall also showed angry and uneasy expressions, clearly shocked and unprepared for the situation in Obedi City.
"That fool Akton got caught at such a critical moment!" Cres's voice seethed with uncontainable rage, "Marquis Sonata, that old fox, actually dares to declare war on us! And those opportunistic nobles, how dare they bite back!"
A middle‑aged Black-robed Wizard stood up, his tone grave, "Lord Cres, now is not the time to lose our temper. We must act immediately, or the situation will worsen. Akton's capture means many of our secrets may already be exposed. Marquis Sonata recalling the two Legendary Knights is clearly to eradicate our influence in Obedi City."
Cres took a deep breath, forced himself to stay calm. He coldly scanned the hall, then said in a deep voice, "Immediately notify all members in Obedi City to evacuate! We must not let them fall into Marquis Sonata's hands. Also, send someone to find out exactly how Akton was captured and who orchestrated it!"
"Yes!" the Black-robed Wizard instantly nodded, turned, and left the hall to deliver the orders.
Another elderly Wizard stood up, his voice tinged with worry, "Lord Cres, the city defense army has already mobilized; many of our bases are surrounded. If we don't act, our foothold in Obedi City will be completely destroyed."
A cold glint flashed in Cres's eyes: "Marquis Sonata thinks this will crush us? Hmph, he's too naive. Send the orders, activate the 'Rebirth Plan', and let those lurking in the shadows move. Since they want to play, we'll play to the end!"
"Rebirth Plan?" the older Wizard hesitated, then showed a shocked expression, "Sir, that's our last trump card! Once activated, it could cause even greater chaos, possibly affecting the entire kingdom!"
Cres sneered, "Chaos? That's exactly what we need. Only by letting the situation spiral out of control can we profit. Marquis Sonata and those nobles think they can control everything? Then let them see what true power is!"
