Chapter 130: Rebirth Plan 2

~6 min read 1,087 words

In the meeting hall, everyone stared at each other, clearly uneasy about Cres's decision, but no one dared to raise an objection.

They all know that Cres is the supreme head of the Wizard Council's western headquarters, and his decisions are orders.

Meanwhile, in Obedi City, at Marquis Sonata's residence, Robin, Ailina and Zhang Boren were gathered around a map, carefully studying the city's situation.

"After Akton was captured, the Wizard Council's forces indeed began to contract," Zhang Boren said, pointing at several marks on the map. "The city defense army has successfully surrounded several of their key strongholds, but there are still some places whose safety we cannot confirm."

Robin nodded, his gaze heavy. "The Wizard Council won't sit idle; they will certainly strike back. We must act cautiously, especially regarding those Wizard Council members hidden in the shadows."

Ailina frowned and whispered, "I always feel this isn't that simple. The Wizard Council has operated in Obedi City for years; it can't be only the visible forces. They must have a backup."

Robin pondered briefly, then said, "Zhang Boren, continue monitoring the city's movements, especially those of the nobles and merchants. The Wizard Council may use them to counterattack. Ailina, you and I will go interrogate Akton to see if we can extract more intelligence from him."

Zhang Boren and Ailina both nodded in agreement.

At that moment, a guard rushed into the room, his expression tense, and said, "Lord Allen, it's bad! A riot suddenly broke out at the East City market; many civilians and soldiers are clashing, and the situation has spiraled out of control!"

Robin's brows knit instantly. "Riot? What's happening?"

The guard gasped, "It's said someone spread rumors that the city defense army slaughtered innocents while capturing Wizard Council members, inciting civilians to anger and attack the soldiers!"

Robin's face hardened instantly. "This is the Wizard Council's counterattack! They want to create chaos to distract us!"

Ailina sprang to her feet, her tone edged with urgency, "We must go control the situation at once, or the consequences will be unimaginable!"

Robin nodded and issued orders swiftly, "Zhang Boren, take troops to support the city defense army and try to quell the riot. Ailina, you and I will go interrogate Akton; we must quickly extract the Wizard Council's next plan from his mouth!"

The group moved quickly, and the situation in Obedi City grew even more tense.

In the interrogation room, dim light fell on the cold stone walls, and a oppressive atmosphere lingered in the air.

Akton was firmly chained to an iron chair, his hands and feet bound by specially made anti‑magic shackles, preventing him from casting any magic.

A smear of blood still clung to his mouth corner, his face bore obvious bruises, yet his eyes still glimmered with a cold light.

Robin and Ailina stood before him, their gazes cold.

In Robin's hand was a document recording parts of the Wizard Council's action plans, compiled from other captives.

Ailina held a dagger, its blade flashing coldly in the light.

"Akton, your plot has been exposed," Robin said coldly. "Now you have two choices: cooperate and tell us the Wizard Council's full plan, or… we'll use some unfriendly methods to make you speak."

Akton lifted his head, letting out a hoarse, mocking laugh. "You bastard illegitimate child, you think catching me will stop the Wizard Council? Too naive. You have no idea what you're facing."

Ailina's brows slightly furrowed, she gently twisted the dagger in her hand, the blade pressing against Akton's cheek: "Akton, don't think we won't lay a hand on you. In your current situation, you have no right to be arrogant."

Akton's gaze swept over Ailina, a mocking smile curling his mouth corner. "Little girl, you think a knife can scare me? The Wizard Council's plan has already been set in motion; even if you kill me, nothing will change. Obedi City… no, the entire kingdom will fall into chaos. And you are merely ants in this storm."

Robin's eyes hardened as he stepped forward, grabbing Akton by the collar and pulling him close. "Akton, don't think we'll be frightened by your words. No matter how grand the Wizard Council's conspiracy, it will ultimately be shattered. And you, if you don't want more suffering, better confess honestly."

Akton's laugh grew more brazen, even tinged with madness: "You bastard illegitimate child, you think you've won? Let me tell you, you've only captured a 'minor player' like me. The true power is beyond your reach! Lord Cres will surely have activated the 'Rebirth Plan'; Obedi City will soon plunge into chaos. By then, you won't even be able to protect yourselves, let alone stop us?"

"Rebirth Plan?" Robin's brows tightened, a vague unease stirring within. He released Akton's collar, turned to Ailina, "Have you heard of this plan?"

Ailina shook her head, her expression grave. "No, but from Akton's tone it's clearly an extremely dangerous plan."

Akton's laugh gradually faded, a hint of smugness in his eyes. "You're learning too late. Once the 'Rebirth Plan' is triggered, the entire Obedi City will become our board. Civilians, nobles, the army… everyone will be pieces, and you are merely obstacles soon to be cleared from the board."

Robin clenched his fists, rapidly pondering a countermeasure in his mind.

Akton's words were arrogant, but not necessarily all bluster. The Wizard Council's years of infiltration in Obedi City must mean they possess unfathomable hidden cards.

"Akton, what exactly is this 'Rebirth Plan' you speak of?" Robin asked in a low voice, his tone edged with pressure.

Akton sneered, closed his eyes, clearly unwilling to speak further.

Seeing this, Ailina pressed the dagger slightly harder, the blade carving a shallow bloodstain on Akton's cheek: "Akton, don't think silence will protect you. We have sufficient means to make you speak."

Akton kept his eyes closed, yet a mocking smile curled his mouth. "You can torture me, even kill me. But you will never stop the 'Rebirth Plan'. Soon you'll see with your own eyes what true despair is."

Robin's eyes flashed with a cold resolve; pressing Akton further was pointless. He turned to Ailina, whispering, "First lock him up and guard him tightly. We must go to Marquis Sonata immediately to discuss a strategy."

Ailina nodded, sheathed the dagger, and gave Akton a cold glance. "You'd better pray your 'Rebirth Plan' fails, otherwise you'll suffer more than now."

Akton remained with his eyes closed, as if Ailina's threat mattered not to him.
