Chapter 58
Anbi quickly finished both burgers, then stood up to leave, but Ye Qingfeng grabbed her wrist and yanked her back onto the sofa. “You have to finish this salad today!” he said, tone leaving no room for refusal.
Ye Qingfeng wolfed down his burger in a few bites, then picked up his bowl of salad and ate slowly, his eyes never leaving Anbi.
“But I don’t want to eat grass...” Anbi poked at the salad with her fork, refusing to open her mouth. Suddenly, she pointed at Nico, who was slipping away. “Nico hasn’t eaten either!”
“Nico!” Ye Qingfeng spun around, glaring fiercely at Nico. “Anbi learned this from you! Look how small she still is!”
Anbi: ? You'd better not mean...
“Alright, alright!”
Nico reluctantly sat down, picked up a slice of cucumber with her fork, and put it in her mouth—surprisingly, it wasn’t bad.
The crisp, juicy texture, mixed with a touch of dressing, wasn’t so unpleasant.
“See? Even Nico’s eating!” Ye Qingfeng sighed in relief, then turned to see Anbi reluctantly spearing a small leaf of lettuce and shakily shoving it into her mouth.
Now that Anbi was finally eating vegetables, Ye Qingfeng could finally enjoy his breakfast properly. He hadn’t cleaned in ages—after breakfast, he’d have to hang the laundry, then prepare lunch.
After lunch, he’d nap, then get up again to clean. Sigh... such a hardworking life.
How is this different from working two or three jobs in my past life—or being in prison?
But there was a slight difference. Ye Qingfeng glanced at Nico and Anbi, and his resentment lessened a little.
“Nico, do you have anything planned today?”
Ye Qingfeng finished his breakfast first, set down his bowl and fork, stretched lazily, and asked.
“Nothing much. Why?”
“Good. Keep an eye on Anbi until she finishes her vegetables.”
Ye Qingfeng pointed at Anbi, who chewed each bite like she was making a solemn vow.
“Fine.”
Nico replied offhandedly.
“Then, after Anbi finishes, wash the dishes yourselves.”
“Fine.”
“Then go buy groceries—and take Anbi with you.”
A vein throbbed on Nico’s forehead as she gritted her teeth and forced out one word: “Fine—!”
“Don’t buy only meat! Get vegetables! Buy lots of vegetables!”
“Who’s in charge here—you or me?!” Nico snapped, suddenly leaping up and grabbing Ye Qingfeng’s ear. “I’m the boss of the Rabbit’s Den! Why do I have to do everything?!”
“Then I’ll buy the groceries,” Ye Qingfeng sneered. “You cook lunch?”
“Well, I—”
Nico’s Qishi instantly deflated.
“I still have to hang the clothes and quilts. Want to do it instead?”
“I...”
“Then after lunch, we clean the house. You—”
“Enough! Shut up!” Nico clamped her hand over Ye Qingfeng’s mouth, glared at him fiercely, then turned to Anbi and said casually, “Anbi, eat faster. You’re coming with me later to carry the groceries.”
Ye Qingfeng: ...
Anbi: ...
Nico is truly so Nico... she vents her anger on the spot. If Billy showed up now, he’d get scolded too.
Ye Qingfeng stood up with his empty bowl and headed for the kitchen. Since grocery duty was now Nico’s, it was time to continue with the next chore.
After washing and putting away the bowl, he left the kitchen and went upstairs. First, he entered his room, grabbed his quilt and pillow, and carried them to the balcony.
“Great weather!” Ye Qingfeng squinted up at the bright sun, then decisively spread the quilt and pillow across the railing. “Perfect day to dry the bedding!”
He then went one by one into Nico’s and Anbi’s rooms, bringing their quilts and pillows out to the balcony and laying them on the railing.
Of course, this was the first time he’d entered their rooms alone—and his impression was just one word...
Messy. Extremely messy.
Anbi’s room was passable.
But Nico’s? He couldn’t even look. Her quilt wasn’t folded at all—exactly as she’d left it.
Clothes and plush toys covered the bed. The closet door hung open, filled not with clothes, but with hangers.
On the nightstand sat a doll shaped like Emilyan, along with several colorful rabbit plushies.
Clothes littered the bed and the foot of the bed—some of them familiar. He’d seen Nico wearing them these past few days.
So why not wash them? Probably because she planned to wear them again before washing...
No wonder he often saw her in casual wear in the morning, then a dress by afternoon.
Among the pile were a few of Nico’s underwear—vivid colors, different patterns...
These can’t possibly be worn too!! He couldn’t take it anymore!
“Nico, come upstairs...” Ye Qingfeng leaned over the staircase railing, spotting Nico lying on the sofa scrolling on her phone. He forced a strained smile, barely holding back his anger. “Can... you...?!”
“What now?! You’ve got so many demands—don’t you have any consideration?!” Nico grumbled, then turned to Anbi with a warning: “Finish your vegetables, or I won’t let Qingfeng make you burgers anymore!”
“Mmm...”
Anbi didn’t speak, but silently chewed faster.
Watching this, Ye Qingfeng sighed: Clearly, Nico’s words carried more weight with Anbi...
Or perhaps Anbi’s obsession with burgers was just that deep.
Nico strolled slowly up to Ye Qingfeng, unbothered. “What is it?”
Though she didn’t understand why his eyes burned with fury, she wasn’t worried at all. She was the boss of the Rabbit’s Den!
“Nico, can you explain why your room is such a mess?”
Ye Qingfeng didn’t consider himself a clean freak—but at least it shouldn’t look like a pigsty!
“Messy?” Nico walked to her doorway and glanced inside. Aside from clothes on the bed, she saw nothing wrong. “It’s not messy. Just a few clothes not put away.”
“A few?”
“Maybe five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten...” Nico counted them out one by one with her fingers, then realized there really were a lot. She laughed nervously. “It’s not that bad...”
“Then why not hang them up?”
“Oh, maybe I’ll wear this one later,” Nico bluffed stubbornly.
“Besides, I’ve only worn these a couple times. Hanging them up is a hassle. Better to wear them once more, then toss them in the washing machine with my bath clothes—it saves water!”
“I see.”
Ye Qingfeng was both furious and amused. It was so Nico—turning laziness into frugality.
Without looking, he reached out and grabbed a purple fabric from the bed, held it up expressionlessly in front of Nico, and waved it. “Not every single one of these is dirty, right? So... these are all?”
Huh? This fabric felt nice—cool and smooth. Small and delicate... is this Nico’s strap?
But when he saw the identical purple strap on Nico’s own body, cold sweat broke out on his forehead.
