Chapter 240: The Inseparable Karma
A sudden thunderclap exploded outside the window; Luo Ruian's expression shifted slightly, and he couldn't help but glance outside.
"Dad," Luo Qi called out, "if you don't want to tell me, can you at least tell me how you got involved in these matters? How exactly did you discover those secrets? What about Mama? She knows everything, doesn't she? Is she safe right now?"
At the mention of his mother, his father's attitude and expression softened somewhat. Luo Qi suddenly remembered that his father's primary yardstick for measuring his moral compass was essentially just one thing—whether he was a good son who loved Mama. A child who loves their mother will love the world and will never turn bad; this was his father's simplified life principle, a simplified worldview.
Therefore, during those mediocre days, Luo Qi had never once thought that his father could be such a complex person.
"Don't worry, your mother is fine. She knows about these things too; your mother is also a Mind Mage, and when two Mind Mages decide to marry, they share their mental worlds," Luo Ruian said, his expression turning somewhat sorrowful. "Originally, if there had been a tiny probability of us having a child with Telepathy, we would have included them in this shared mental world during their early childhood. Communicating with a child in the mental world is a wonderful thing, and it is also beneficial for a child's growth."
Luo Qi hid the strange jealousy welling up deep inside; his father sounded as if he were talking about another beloved child, one that didn't exist at all, but was a hundred thousand times more lovable than him.
His father looked at him. "I'm not saying you aren't good. We wanted a good child with Telepathy; every parent hopes the child they give birth to will be like them. But your birth completely exceeded our expectations, and the nature of the situation changed. We are both Mind Archmages and understand more of this world's secrets than others. We hoped you would just be a human and enjoy a healthier, secular human life. The day we made that decision, we swore that even if it were an act against the heavens, knowing it was impossible yet doing it anyway, we would see it through."
Luo Qi remained silent. He suddenly felt that this matter, which seemed like nothing more than a minor educational disagreement within their family, had evolved into something already spiraling out of control. By comparison, the losses he had suffered might even be insignificant. Looking at it this way, he really didn't know if this was a comfort or a piece of terrible news.
But since the overall situation could not be controlled, Luo Qi only wanted to grasp the part he could. "Then you should be able to understand me. You only want to look after the people in your life, and I am the same; I want my friends to survive."
"Luo Qi, as far as I can see, it is either you or Du Zhengyi who will die." Luo Ruian said this not with severity, but also not as if he were joking.
Luo Qi was actually startled by the calmness in his words; Luo Ruian seemed to be stating a fact, without the slightest need for tone to increase its persuasiveness. This was not easy; his father had always been a somewhat dramatic person.
Luo Qi couldn't figure out why his father had the opportunity to be so certain. He thought for a moment and braced himself, "Regardless, I want him to live."
"Luo Qi." His father began to lose patience, a trace of guilt appearing on his face. "Perhaps I shouldn't have saved his life back then."
"He will kill me if he lives? Why?" Luo Qi followed up, while simultaneously letting at least hundreds of souls help him synthesize and organize all the intelligence.
"He is not a madman, Luo Qi. I think whether or not he kills you depends on what you are going to do." Luo Ruian raised his hand, his fingers brushing across a row of his son's books. "If you leave the Magic World, he might die a little earlier, but he will always be your friend. Luo Qi, I don't know the details; in fact, I don't know any details at all. I only know that actions lead to results."
"Leaving the Magic World is useless now; Fenlian Zhe knows my real name," Luo Qi said.
To Luo Qi's surprise, Luo Ruian didn't care at all. "Of course they know, but I can guarantee that as long as you stay out of the game, they will turn a blind eye to you."
