Chapter 239: The Son's Room
Luo Qi remained silent, only his Slime form dutifully churning, as if intentionally trying to disgust someone.
Luo Ruian maintained his own physical form, impeccably dressed, glaring at that pile of muck. He had waited for a long time in the depths of time, but the muck had no intention of responding to him.
"I am not criticizing you, Luo Qi. If this muck form of yours has some other origin, then it must be that there is a generation gap between your old man and you. Or is it... you aren't in a rebellious phase, are you? Are you intentionally using the 'muck that cannot be plastered onto a wall' to protest against me?"
"Whatever, I don't care," Luo Qi said. "Why pursue a form in the Consciousness Space? The form of an amoeba can stretch and change into any shape, which best fits existence within the Consciousness Space."
"Philosophy?" Luo Ruian said. He paced in his son's room, stopping casually at Luo Qi's bookshelf, examining the books his son usually read. This was just a gesture; Luo Qi knew that the form of this room behind the door was created by Luo Ruian himself.
Although this place was exactly the same as his room at home, he could even see a scratch on his desk. His bookcase reached the ceiling and occupied two walls, connecting into an L-shape; the books inside seemed to be arranged and categorized just as he remembered.
His large bed was in the area of the L-shaped bookcase, the bedding unmade, the quilt rolled into a ball, just as he often did.
Opposite the bed was the projection screen he used to watch movies. On the desk in front of the window sat the curved monitor he used for gaming, and outside the window was thick, dark night.
"Physics has developed to this day; there is no room left for philosophy," Luo Qi said absent-mindedly.
"So... isn't it good to live in human society?" Luo Ruian turned back, looking at Luo Qi with affection.
Luo Qi resisted the feeling of admiration he felt when seeing his father; if it were merely a conversation of consciousness, it would be much easier than it was now. "If everyone were living well, I wouldn't want to stay in the world of Mages either. Wait, are you asking me why I don't use the form of a dinosaur? In your heart, is my craving for psychological compensation that severe? So you are intentionally standing here in this form? To gain the upper hand psychologically?"
"You have matured much faster than I thought. Your old man feels a bit sad; I really wish you were still at the age where a set of dinosaur models could coax you. Back then, there wasn't so much suspicion between father and son as there is now, and we didn't have to speak in riddles." Luo Ruian looked at him. "But son, who are you referring to when you say everyone should live well?"
Luo Qi hesitated for a moment. He didn't want to blame his father today. He was currently processing several things simultaneously; through the room's window, he saw the shadows of Lightning Technique in the distance. When the Lightning Technique struck closer, it would be time for the Magic Array's counterattack, or perhaps it would be when the swarms of Seal Beasts finally arrived.
But for now, he had to seize the time to complete what he had to complete. "Dad, can you completely cure Du Zhengyi?"
Luo Ruian looked at him. "I hope we father and son don't reach the point of having to negotiate terms. I also hope you don't question my medical ethics as a Doctor; if I could cure him, he would have recovered his health three years ago."
Luo Qi sensed the sternness on his father's face, and he directly acted to shut down the part of his emotions responsible for shame and embarrassment. "But you are the best Doctor in the world. Can you provide a medical plan, a line of thought?"
Outside the window, a bolt of Lightning Technique struck closer, the light and shadow falling on Luo Ruian's face; his expression was somewhat inscrutable. "I can cure the illness, but I cannot cure fate."
Luo Qi's heart churned. The part of his emotions he hadn't isolated surged and tossed violently; he couldn't describe his own state of mind. "I have been wondering why you insist on targeting Du Zhengyi. Are you crazy, perverted, or has your desire for control controlled you yourself?"
"Luo Qi!" Luo Ruian called his name sternly. "Control your emotions! A Mind Mage never loses control!"
"A Mind Mage never loses control," Luo Qi muttered. "And you aren't repeatedly attacking Du Zhengyi out of displaced anger either. If there really are no parents who don't consider things for their children, then it must be that for some reason, you feel Du Zhengyi is dangerous to me."
Luo Ruian did not deny it. The thunder outside the window finally reached inside, and raindrops pounded fiercely against the window.
"Why?" Luo Qi asked. "Based on what, exactly, would you think that Du Zhengyi and I are going to turn against each other?"
