Chapter 428: Completing the Mission

~7 min read 1,380 words

Luo Qi walked out of the doorless room smoothly; the smoothness of how things progressed left him pleasantly surprised. After all, when he had first entered and looked around the room that had no door at all, he had thought they intended to lock him inside and finish him off.

In reality, he was sent out with dignity, sent to the room previously used by Liu Li as an office, where Du Zhengyi and the others were waiting. As soon as Luo Qi appeared, Du Zhengyi stood up from his chair and looked at him with concern.

They probably only had two minutes to talk; the person who sent Luo Qi out was still waiting here, waiting to bring the second person to be interrogated inside, and that second person was Du Zhengyi.

Luo Qi jumped in front of Du Zhengyi and excitedly ruffled his own hair; this feeling was a bit like having just walked out of an exam room. Although he didn't know how his results actually were and seriously suspected he hadn't done well, he also knew he definitely hadn't messed up. Although there was a little bit of worry, excitement was his main theme.

He looked up at Du Zhengyi happily, having already removed his disguise; now his eyes were bright and sparkling. "I think I performed okay!"

The corners of Du Zhengyi's lips hooked up slightly; the Battle Mage's statue-like blank face involuntarily transformed into one of flesh and blood, warmth flowing at the corners of his eyes, his facial skin no longer taut, and he did not spare praise for Luo Qi. "Worthy of praise."

"Oh my." Luo Qi followed Du Zhengyi's tone lively, "Candy, toys, playground, not a single one can be missing!"

Du Zhengyi slanted a look at him with a smile; Mahjong, sitting on the sofa, also looked much more festive, but he wasn't as willing to praise him, smiling and teasing him, "First time passing an exam in your life? First time being an honor student, right?"

"Haha." Luo Qi laughed twice and turned to look at him, "Guess what? You guessed right, it really is the first time."

He swept a glance toward Guan Xinyue; she had been secretly watching him, but when his gaze shifted over, she immediately turned her eyes away, her face becoming cold. Luo Qi sighed; he was worried that their questions for her would make her uncomfortable.

The Execution Mage who sent Luo Qi out politely urged them once, hoping Du Zhengyi could follow him in immediately. Indeed, the night was still long, and there were three more people who needed to be questioned; Luo Qi felt a bit of schadenfreude that they were in a wheel-battle Investigation Team.

Du Zhengyi nodded to the Execution Mage and once again looked back, his gaze sweeping over Luo Qi's face, conducting an inspection of him from head to toe. Luo Qi couldn't help but grin again; if someone said Du Zhengyi could scan whether he had suffered abuse just by sight, he would be very happy to believe it. Just like even if he could handle everything alone, he would be extremely happy to complain to Du Zhengyi first. Sometimes, there are times when the form is more meaningful than the substance. At the very least, it is beneficial to mental health.

"I estimate my time might be longer." Du Zhengyi said to him.

Luo Qi laughed; Du Zhengyi looked very experienced with this situation, perhaps it was the nineteen seminars Liu Li mentioned. "Were you also a little bastard when you were young?"

Du Zhengyi didn't quite understand his question, but keenly found one word, "Also?"

Mahjong didn't know how, but he seemed to have understood, and sneered.

However, it was not suitable to waste any more time; the longer they delayed outside, the more they would lose the Investigation Team's trust. Du Zhengyi straightened his clothes and said to Luo Qi, "It will take until tomorrow morning at the earliest, you don't need to wait, just go back to sleep."

"Okay." Luo Qi nodded; he was very excited now, but he had indeed been questioned for a full three hours, and his brain was already feeling sleepy.

He watched Du Zhengyi leave with the Execution Mage, not using the Execution Mage's teleportation process at all, as if although he hadn't been inside yet, he was very clear about the target. When not to underestimate an experienced Battle Mage, Luo Qi knew; humans would also extract all potential to the limit in war, so everyone likes warriors.

Luo Qi stretched, faintly feeling his heels ache; he had practically been punished by standing for three hours. He prepared to sit in the chair Du Zhengyi had just sat in, but hesitated for a moment and cheekily sat on the sofa next to Guan Xinyue.

Guan Xinyue hummed, not pretending to ignore him, but she turned her face to look at him, a blizzard still blowing in her eyes. "Are you planning to curry favor with me?"

Luo Qi hesitated, feeling that admitting to currying favor with a girl was nothing; he was in a great mood right now.

But just as he was about to be shameless, Guan Xinyue continued in a spicy tone, "You think I will betray you in front of those Great Mages, so you want to show goodwill now? Isn't that cheap?"

"I..." Luo Qi opened his mouth in annoyance, and Mahjong immediately made a not-so-small noise.

"What?" Luo Qi turned his gun sights toward him.

"Don't argue." Mahjong glared at him, "Shut up, no rebuttals allowed. It's the middle of the night, and you still have the energy to argue? What kind of place is this? Also, I advise you, young people, never say things you will regret in three days; don't leave knives in other people's hearts for no reason. Guan Xinyue, these words are for you too. Luo Qi, stand up, close the door when you go out, and go back to sleep obediently right away."

Luo Qi stood up angrily, but didn't move from the spot.

"Go quickly." Mahjong said, "You are a Mind Mage; maintaining your mental state is more important than anything."

This warning sounded particularly real and important at this moment; Luo Qi couldn't think of any words to refute him, and he also saw that staying here would only make Guan Xinyue annoyed.

Thinking about it, he really didn't have the standing to be angry with Guan Xinyue; Guan Xinyue actually had enough standing to scold him. If he didn't want to be scolded to his face, going back to sleep was the most reasonable choice.

"Fine, don't say I'm not a good buddy; I'll go to sleep alone first."

Mahjong yawned and sighed; he actually envied him. When Luo Qi went out the door, he heard Mahjong telling Guan Xinyue that he might as well summon two beds and they could sleep too; Du Zhengyi might not be questioned until dawn.

Luo Qi walked back to his room along the corridor; he thought about it and decided to leave the bed for Du Zhengyi, tidying up his own nest on the floor. Luo Ruiqi was curled up in his nest. He pushed his cat, letting it make some room for him, and then crawled into the covers.

He lay there and reviewed whether he had made any mistakes during today's investigation process; there were some places where he might not have performed well, but thinking about it again, he felt it didn't matter that much. Before long, sleepiness washed over him; he turned over and fell into a deep sleep in the soft, warm covers.

By the time he woke up again, it was already broad daylight. He hadn't fully woken up yet, sleeping so he couldn't open his eyes, and barely reached out to touch the small bed next to him. He didn't touch anything, and no one tapped his hand with a book spine.

He was a bit surprised, suddenly sat up, and scared the cat so much it fell out of the covers. Luo Qi looked at the bed next to him; there were no signs of it having been slept in.

The interrogation of Du Zhengyi wasn't over yet?
