Chapter 1324: You Deceived Us

~6 min read 1,136 words

Viridian City, Spaceport.

This is the final evacuation point for the entire planet.

Massive transport ships take off and land between the berths, sending survivors in batches to the fleet in orbit.

But the number of transport ships is far from enough, and the Zerg are getting closer and closer.

Valerius stands at the entrance of the Command Center, watching the city burning in the distance.

"General, the last wave of transport ships is taking off."

The Adjutant says.

Valerius looks at the sky.

Several transport ships are climbing, escorted by dozens of assault ships.

But the Zerg's flying creatures have already caught up.

Gargoyles swarm toward the transport ships like a dark cloud, attacking the hulls.

The engine of one transport ship is hit, and the fire of the explosion blooms in the sky.

Another transport ship has its hull breached by several gargoyles; air leaks out, and passengers are sucked out of the cabin, falling from thousands of meters high.

Not a single transport ship successfully reaches orbit.

Valerius closes his eyes.

"It's over, everything is over."

In orbit, the Ashes Fleet is in a fierce battle with the Zerg.

Meis stands on the Bridge of the flagship, looking at the dense light dots on the holographic screen.

His four eyes are bloodshot, and his dark red skin looks exceptionally pale under the illumination of the emergency lights.

"General! The Zerg have broken through our defensive line! They are approaching the flagship!"

The Adjutant shouts.

Meis turns to look at the screen.

The Zerg light dots are approaching rapidly, surging like a tide.

"All firepower, concentrate fire in front of the flagship! Hold them back!"

The artillery fires in unison.

Energy Beams and Plasma Cannons weave through the starry sky, and Zerg corpses float in the vacuum.

But there are even more alive; they step on the corpses of their companions to continue forward.

A massive Bio-ship appears in the field of vision.

Its size is even larger than a Capital Ship, its entire body covered in a thick carapace, with countless tentacles swaying around the hull.

"What is that?"

The Adjutant's voice is trembling.

Meis does not answer.

His four eyes are filled with fear.

The tentacles of the Bio-ship reach toward the flagship and wrap around the hull.

The armor deforms under the pressure of the tentacles, and alarm sirens blare piercingly.

"Abandon ship! Abandon ship!"

Meis roars.

But it is already too late for him.

The tentacles tighten, and the hull of the flagship is torn apart.

Air leaks out, and flames erupt.

Meis is sucked out of the cabin, suffocating in the vacuum.

His four eyes look at that endless starry sky, looking at those Zerg that are devouring everything.

Then, everything returns to darkness.

Viridian Sector, the last planet.

The Ashes Fleet is completely wiped out.

The Canaan Fleet is completely wiped out.

The Tyranid are not picky eaters.

On Viridian Star, thirty billion people, not one survives.

Canaan Star Alliance Capital Star, Supreme Council Chamber.

Viridius sits before the conference table, facing the Viridian Sector on the Holographic Star Map that has already turned red.

The entire sector has fallen; seven planets, over twelve billion people, all devoured by the Zerg.

Only a few people remain in the Meeting Room.

Morax, Tailesi, and several high-ranking officials.

The others are either at the front line commanding the fleet or busy evacuating civilians from other sectors.

"How is the fleet assembly going?"

Viridius asks.

Morax pulls up the data.

"Speaker, the fleets called in from other sectors are arriving one after another. Currently, there are 150 Capital Ships, 3,000 Auxiliary Ships, and 5,000 assault ships. The total force is about three billion. But it will still take at least three days to complete the assembly."

Viridius is silent for a second.

"Three days. Three days from now, where will the Zerg have spread to?"

Morax did not answer.

Tailesi spoke up.

"Speaker, according to the Zerg's expansion speed, they may reach the adjacent star sector in three days. There are nine colonial planets there, with a total population exceeding twenty billion."

Viridius closed his eyes.

"It's too late. We are too late."

There was dead Silence in the Meeting Room.

Just then, the Communications Officer hurried in.

"Speaker, Xanos of the Ash Star Alliance has sent a communication request. The priority is the highest."

Viridius opened his eyes.

"Connect it."

The holographic projection lit up, and the figure of Xanos appeared in the center of the Meeting Room.

His four eyes were filled with rage, his dark red skin glowed under the lights, and the six curved horns on his head seemed to be trembling slightly.

"Viridius! You lied to us!"

Viridius looked at him.

"Xanos, listen to me explain..."

"Explain? What is there to explain?"

Xanos interrupted him.

"You said 'Zerg infestation,' and we thought it was ordinary bugs! And the result? The three fleets we sent were completely wiped out! Now those bugs have spread to the border of the Ash Star Alliance! Our planets are also under attack!"

Viridius's face turned even paler.

"Xanos, we didn't know those bugs were so powerful..."

"Didn't know? You were conducting research on an experimental planet, opened a rift, released those things, and then told me you didn't know? Viridius, have you Canaanites done so much research that you've gone stupid, unable to even control the monsters you released yourselves?"

Morax stood up.

"Xanos, watch your tone!"

Xanos looked at him.

"Watch it? My soldiers are dead, and you want me to watch it?"

Viridius raised a hand to stop Morax.

"Xanos, now is not the time for mutual accusations. Those bugs will not stop spreading because of our arguing."

Xanos was in Silence for a second.

"Then what do you suggest we do?"

Viridius said.

"Cooperate. We will deal with those bugs together. The Canaan Star Alliance fleet is gathering, and the Ash Star Alliance fleet should be moved over as well. We will concentrate our forces and block them before the Zerg spread to more star sectors."

Xanos sneered.

"Block them? With what? Your fleet couldn't block them, and our fleet can't either. The number of those bugs is too great."

Viridius said.

"Then use more fleets. Mobilize every ship that can be moved."

Xanos was in Silence for a long time.

Then he said.

"Fine. Cooperation. But this time, you must tell us all the intelligence. No more hiding anything."

Viridius nodded.

"We won't."

Ash Star Alliance Capital Star, Fenmie Star, Supreme Council Chamber.

Xanos closed the communication and leaned back in his chair.

Salmox stood beside him.

"Archon, are we really going to cooperate with them?"

Xanos looked at him.

"If we don't cooperate, what else can we do? Let those bugs eat our planets clean too?"
