Chapter 1333: Bloody Battle of Eridanus (1)
Sanguinius wove through the sky; the corpses of gargoyles fell like raindrops from the air, piling into mountains on the ground.
"Father! A Zerg command unit detected directly ahead, a Hive Tyrant!"
A Blood Angels warrior shouted.
Sanguinius's gaze pierced through the battlefield and saw that massive figure.
The Hive Tyrant, over five meters tall, was covered in thick carapace, its four scything talons twitching incessantly.
It was the Zerg ground commander; killing it could temporarily disrupt the Zerg's offensive rhythm.
"Leave it to me!" Sanguinius dove downward.
The Blood Angels Astartes formed a wedge formation behind him, with chainswords and bolters clearing the way, eliminating the Zerg blocking their path one by one.
Sanguinius's speed was too fast.
Like a golden meteor, he streaked across the battlefield, charging straight at the Hive Tyrant.
The Tyrant Guard blocking him could not hinder Sanguinius in the slightest under his powerful psionic attack.
The Hive Tyrant raised its four scything talons and brought them down simultaneously.
Sanguinius dodged to the side, his spear piercing into the Hive Tyrant's chest.
The carapace shattered, and insect blood gushed out.
The Hive Tyrant roared, its scything talons sweeping across; Sanguinius spread his wings, flew up, kicked one scything talon away, pulled out his spear, and stabbed again.
This time, it pierced into the Hive Tyrant's skull, and psionic energy surged in.
The Hive Tyrant's body twitched a few times, then exploded with a boom.
"Hive Tyrant neutralized!"
Sanguinius's voice echoed through the communication device.
The Zerg swarm's offensive began to show brief chaos.
Without a command unit, the low-level Zerg did not know where to charge; some spun in place, while others began to kill each other.
"Take this chance! Full army fire coverage!"
Soldiers of the Blood Angels, Thousand Sons, Weepers Chapter, and Ash Star Alliance.
All forces counterattacked simultaneously.
Energy beams, bolter rounds, and psionic lightning—all firepower poured out at once.
The Zerg's Titan units began to advance toward the Human Titan positions.
Executioners in the front, Ion Cannon Beasts in the rear, and Warrior Bugs on the flanks.
"All Titans, fire at will!"
One hundred Warhound-class Titans' Vulcan Mega-bolters roared in unison.
A metal storm exploded within the swarm; the Executioners' carapaces shattered, the Ion Cannon Beasts' bodies were pierced, and the Warrior Bugs' limbs were blown off.
But the Zerg Titans did not decrease by much.
They stepped over the corpses of their companions and continued to advance, getting closer and closer to the Human Titan positions.
"Knight House, intercept!"
The commander of the Tailin Knight House gave the order.
Two hundred and twenty Knight Titans charged toward the Zerg Titan swarm.
Meltaguns sprayed high-temperature flames, melting the Executioners' scything talons.
Chainswords swung, cleaving open the backs of the Ion Cannon Beasts.
One Knight Mech was hit by an Ion Cannon Beast; its armor melted, and the cockpit was exposed.
Before the pilot could eject, they were torn apart by another Executioner.
Another Knight Mech was surrounded by three Executioners.
It killed one with its meltagun and severed the head of another with its power sword, but the third one's scything talon pierced into its cockpit.
"Twin-linked Laser Cannon, activate!" the captain of a Warhound-class Titan shouted.
"Fire!"
This time, they aimed at the dense area of the Zerg Titans.
Energy beams burned through the swarm, and dozens of Zerg Titans were destroyed simultaneously.
The Zerg's offensive was temporarily contained.
The eastern sector of the battlefield, eight hundred kilometers from the Central Fortress.
The terrain here consisted of rolling hills and dried-up river valleys.
The warriors of the Third Company of the Weepers Chapter were defending here, coordinating with a regiment of Ash Star Alliance soldiers.
Company Commander Akertusi stood in the trench, staring at the darkness ahead.
His yellow power armor was stained with insect blood.
"Company Commander, the Zerg are coming up again."
A warrior shouted.
Akertusi looked ahead.
In the darkness, countless points of light were approaching rapidly—the eyes of the Zerg.
"Fire."
The roar of bolters tore through the night sky.
Termagants leaped over the minefield, scything talons waving.
Hormagaunts followed behind, firing their bio-guns.
Akertusi's bolter fired continuously, each bolter round taking the life of a Zerg.
But the number of Zerg was too great, so great that guns and cannons simply could not finish them off.
A Hormagaunt leaped into the trench, its Scything Talon heading straight for Akertusi.
Akertusi dodied to the side, his Chainsword cleaving the Hormagaunt's skull.
Another Hormagaunt lunged from the side; with a sound of a Bolter, the Hormagaunt's skull exploded.
Akertusi turned his head and saw another Lamenters Space Marine's Bolter emitting smoke.
"Thanks."
As Akertusi spoke, he grabbed the head of another Hormagaunt rushing up, exerted force with his fingers, and the Hormagaunt's head burst.
The battle continued.
In the western section of the battlefield, 1,500 kilometers from the Central Fortress.
This was a vast plain with no terrain to rely on.
A company of Blood Angels was defending here, coordinating with a detachment of the Tailin Knight House.
Company Commander Saidafen stood at the foot of a Knight Mech, looking at the darkness ahead.
"Knight, advance. Infantry, follow behind."
The Knight Mech's engine roared, slowly moving forward.
The Blood Angels warriors followed behind, Bolters loaded, Chainswords preheated.
The Zerg swarm surged out from the darkness.
The Knight's Meltagun sprayed high-temperature flames, burning swaths of Zerg into Ashes.
The Blood Angels warriors fired their Bolters in unison, the Rune Bullets exploding into mists of blood within the swarm.
But the number of Zerg was too great.
A Knight was surrounded by Warriors.
Its Meltagun killed one, its Chainsword severed another, but a third Warrior's Scything Talon pierced into its cockpit.
"Tighten the defensive line!"
Saidafen roared.
"Close in toward the center!"
The Blood Angels warriors began to retreat in an orderly fashion. The Knight Titan provided cover from the rear, using firepower to suppress the Zerg's pursuit.
But the Zerg were too fast; they bypassed the Knight and flanked from the sides.
Just then, Sanguinius's Power Spear arrived, followed closely by a powerful Psychic Shock, turning the flanking Tyranid into fragments.
Space was somewhat distorted at this moment.
After eliminating some of the Tyranid here, Sanguinius took flight again, destroying the Gargoyle swarm around him while rushing to other battlefields.
In the northern section of the battlefield, 700 kilometers from the Central Fortress.
This was mountainous terrain, with steep peaks and deep canyons.
A detachment of the Thousand Sons was defending here, coordinating with the artillery units of the Ash Star Alliance.
Company Commander Ignatius hovered in mid-air, his psionic senses scanning the entire valley.
"The Zerg are coming. From the canyon to the east." He opened his eyes, "Artillery, barrage fire."
The Ash Star Alliance artillery units opened fire. The Rune Bullets exploded in the valley, flames shooting into the sky.
The Zerg corpses were blown into fragments, but those behind stepped on their companions' corpses and continued forward.
"Psychic Storm."
Ignatius raised his hand.
Psionic Lightning shot from his fingertips, exploding in the valley.
The shockwave spread in all directions, turning swaths of Zerg into Ashes.
But the Zerg surged out from the canyons, crawled down from the hillsides, and burrowed out from underground.
The Hormagaunts' Scything Talons carved deep marks into the mountain rock, the Termagants' Bio-guns traced blinding trajectories in the night sky, and the Bio-Plasma from the Zoanthropes blasted huge craters into the mountain walls.
Under the powerful Psionic Attack, these Tyranid swarms forced their way forward purely by numbers.
