Chapter 1429: The Rune War Colossus of the Broken Bone Empire

~8 min read 1,491 words

The Capital Star of the Broken Bone Empire, Iron Tooth Star.

Several Orc Priests stood behind the High Priest, holding torches in their hands.

The firelight shone upon a stone box, which had Runes carved onto it.

The High Priest opened the stone box; inside lay twelve precious beads.

Each one was the size of a fist, radiating heat, and one could hear a buzzing sound when drawing near.

"The Soul Beads left behind by our ancestors; each one seals the soul of an ancient giant beast, and they require a massive sacrifice of life to awaken."

The High Priest lifted a bead and held it above his head.

"Place them into the Altar and prepare for the sacrifice."

"Yes, High Priest!"

The Orc Priests took the beads and walked toward the twelve corners of the Altar.

There were twelve grooves there, perfectly sized to hold the beads.

They carefully placed the beads inside and stepped back a few paces.

The High Priest walked to the center of the Altar and raised his staff.

"Bring the Two-legged Sheep up."

The Orc warriors on the ground were already prepared.

They used whips to drive thousands upon thousands of Two-legged Sheep, converging from various holding points toward the entrance of the Altar.

"Quick! Quick! Don't dawdle! The ancestors are waiting!"

The lead Orc warrior roared.

These Two-legged Sheep were driven into the massive Sacrificial Array.

The High Priest watched as those Two-legged Sheep were driven in, his eyes flashing with an excited light.

"Drive the Two-legged Sheep into the arrays; there are twelve arrays, each requiring at least fifty thousand Two-legged Sheep—if that's not enough, go get more!"

"Yes!"

The Orc warriors drove the Two-legged Sheep into the twelve arrays surrounding the Altar.

The arrays were carved into the ground, with complex patterns drawn in red pigment and stone steles standing at the edges.

The Two-legged Sheep were pushed in and crowded together; if any Two-legged Sheep walked too slowly, they would be lashed by an Orc warrior's whip.

An old Two-legged Sheep slumped onto the ground, gasping for air; seeing the environment he was in, his mind recalled the scenes he had seen in the cages of his kin being sacrificed.

"Sacrifice again... sacrifice again..."

A male Two-legged Sheep beside him helped him up.

"Don't sit on the ground, you'll be trampled to death."

The old Two-legged Sheep shook his head.

"Trampled to death or sacrificed, it's all death; die early or die late, it's all the same."

The male Two-legged Sheep did not respond.

As the twelve massive arrays were stuffed full with Two-legged Sheep.

The High Priest raised his staff and shouted.

"The sacrifice begins! May the ancestors bless us!"

The Orc Priests began to chant incantations.

The sound was low and the rhythm slow; the Runes on the Altar began to glow, and red light rose from the ground, illuminating the entire space.

The twelve arrays activated simultaneously, and the light spread beneath the feet of the Two-legged Sheep.

"What is this?"

"It's glowing under our feet!"

"Let me out! Let me out!"

The Two-legged Sheep shoved and crowded, attempting to flee the array.

But the stone steles at the edge blocked them, and the Orc warriors stood outside the steles, gripping blades in their hands, ready to cut down anyone who dared to cross the boundary.

The light of the arrays grew brighter and brighter; those red rays crawled onto the bodies of the Two-legged Sheep like tentacles, wrapping around their limbs and burrowing into their skin.

The Two-legged Sheep began to scream; those rays were Devouring their lives.

"Ah!"

A male Two-legged Sheep fell to his knees, clutching his head with both hands.

In just a few seconds, he turned into a shriveled corpse, finally crumbling into a pile of white bones.

A Two-legged Sheep cub clung to the leg of a female Two-legged Sheep.

The female Two-legged Sheep hugged him tightly, using her own body to block those rays.

But the rays pierced through her body, and the cub also screamed.

The old Two-legged Sheep collapsed to the ground, his body twitching a few times before falling still.

Within the arrays, the Two-legged Sheep fell one after another.

In less than a few minutes, all the Two-legged Sheep in the arrays had turned into white bones.

The Orc warriors stood at the edge of the arrays, looking at those white bones and letting out bursts of loud laughter.

"Hahaha, look at those Two-legged Sheep, they died so fast!"

"They sound so hideous when they scream, truly the most inferior race."

"Two-legged Sheep are just Two-legged Sheep; even dead, they are still Two-legged Sheep."

The High Priest stared at the center of the array, where something was coalescing.

Red light rose from the white bones, converging into the beads at the center of the arrays.

The orbs absorbed those rays of light, their interiors began to churn, and all twelve orbs shone simultaneously.

The Magic Array vibrated, the Runes began to flicker, and the orbs shattered, fragments scattering everywhere.

Red mist drifted out and began to condense into shape, revealing one tall figure after another.

Sixteen meters tall, their entire bodies were composed of dark red metal, the surfaces covered in Runes.

Their eyes were two balls of burning flame, and their mouths opened to reveal sharp teeth.

In their hands they gripped massive stone axes, the blades inlaid with bone spikes; these were Rune War Colossi.

The twelve Colossi stood in the center of the Altar, arranged in a row, hot air venting from their mouths.

The High Priest raised his staff and shouted.

"Ancestors protect us! Broken Bone is undefeated! Blood sacrifice!"

The Orc warriors raised their weapons and let out a battle cry that shook the heavens.

"Ancestors protect us!"

Gokazi stood at the entrance of the Altar, watching those Colossi, and cheered repeatedly.

"Good! Good! Good! Twelve Rune War Colossi! The ancestors of the Broken Bone Empire are above! This time, those Two-legged Sheep are dead!"

He turned around to face the High Priest.

"High Priest, continue. Bring out the other forbidden weapons too; I want to let those Two-legged Sheep know that the Broken Bone Empire is not to be trifled with!"

The High Priest nodded.

"Yes, Great King, there are other weapons, but they require time to prepare."

"Before those Two-legged Sheep fleets arrive, have all the weapons ready."

The High Priest said.

"Understood."

Gokazi turned and walked toward the Wangzuo Ting.

He walked through the corridor, his mind filled with the terrified faces of those Two-legged Sheep.

Two-legged Sheep should be just like this; if you dare to resist me, then I will make your lives worse than death!

Thinking of this, Gokazi felt the need to vent the rage in his chest; remembering there were a few Two-legged Sheep in his bedchamber with decent looks, it was just the thing to let him vent his anger, and he hoped their screams would be beautiful.

At the end of the Wangzuo Ting was a heavy Iron Gate, with two Orc guards standing at the entrance.

They saw Gokazi and stood at attention to salute.

"Great King."

Gokazi nodded, pushed the door open, and walked inside.

The bedchamber was large, with animal skins and bone ornaments hanging on the walls, and the floor covered in the furs of unknown creatures.

In the corner were a few Two-legged Sheep locked up; they were chained, huddled together, and trembled all over when they saw Gokazi enter.

Gokazi walked over, grabbed a female Two-legged Sheep by the hair, and dragged her out.

"Come here."

The female Two-legged Sheep screamed and struggled, but her strength was too small; the other Two-legged Sheep huddled in the corner, not daring to look.

The Iron Gate closed.

From the bedchamber came shrill, miserable screams, intermittent and lasting for a long time.

Not until the door opened again did Gokazi walk out, his body stained with blood, his expression relaxed.

"Someone come."

The two Orc guards ran over.

"Great King."

Gokazi said.

"Clean up inside and carry them out to be stewed."

"Yes!"

The guards nodded and walked into the bedchamber.

On the floor lay several twisted corpses, no longer recognizable as their original selves.

Gokazi stood in the corridor, stretched his shoulders, and felt refreshed in body and mind.

He walked toward the Wangzuo Ting, his pace much lighter.

In the Wangzuo Ting, the High Priest was directing the Orc warriors to transport the forbidden weapons.

Huge crates were being transported up from the Dixia Wuqiku and opened, revealing various ancient pieces of equipment inside.

Gokazi sat on the throne, watching as those weapons were moved out.

"High Priest, when can these weapons be ready?"

The High Priest said.

"Three days at the soonest."

Gokazi nodded.

"By the time we are ready, those Two-legged Sheep fleets will have just about arrived; we still have time."

"Yes, Great King."
