Chapter 484: The Fall of the Frost Clan (3)
The snowfields of the Extreme Cold Zone.
Fuderi pulled his chainaxe from the body of the Alien that had just burned out its life before him, and swung the chainaxe once more, severing the Alien's head.
"I didn't expect this Alien to be so strong. If not for the Emperor's Divine Miracle, I fear we really would have fallen at its hands."
Although this five-meter-tall Alien had lost its head, the energy fluctuation it released in its final moments carved every object within a hundred-meter radius into ice sculptures, save for the War Dog Space Marines.
Twelve Valhalla soldiers in the midst of a charge were frozen in eternity, their monomolecular combat knives in the act of hacking at the frost Aliens that were likewise frozen in front of them.
On the battlefield at this moment, there were corpses of frost Aliens everywhere, with only a small number of Valhalla soldiers intermingled among them; the golden light that had illuminated the 30 War Dog Space Marines vanished after the battle ended.
Whether they were War Dog Space Marines or Valhalla soldiers, the moment the golden light disappeared, they all offered salutes, giving thanks for the arrival of the Emperor's Divine Miracle.
The roar of the chainaxes gradually ceased, and the Alien blood congealing on the axe blades began to vaporize, rising as blue blood mist.
Fuderi hoisted his chainaxe onto his shoulder and looked around; this battlefield where they had fought the frost Aliens had turned into a death art exhibition of ice and blood.
Fuderi returned to the ranks, suddenly feeling as if he had stepped on something that shattered underfoot, and a reminder came through the communication channel.
"Watch your step."
Tolemi's voice came through the communication device.
Fuderi looked down and saw he was stepping on half a body of a Valhalla soldier—this poor man was intact from the waist up, his frozen, pale-blue face still holding the determination from the charge, while everything below the waist had turned into ice crystals scattered on the ground, mixed with the blue, shattered internal organs of the Alien.
Tiny blood crystal particles floated in the air; they were the flesh and blood of the fallen that had vaporized instantly in the low-temperature explosion.
The MK2 Power Armor remained intact, but the mortal soldier's remains were emitting faint sounds like shattering glass in the cold wind of the residual energy.
Kern Commissar and a Valhalla Captain came before Fuderi and, after a standard salute, spoke.
"Respected Astartes, the Aliens on the battlefield have all been wiped out. What is our next course of action?"
Fuderi looked at the surviving Valhalla soldiers, who were all watching him now, waiting for his orders.
Although he wanted to set off right now to occupy the Aliens' final territory, these soldiers had just been through a major battle, and they had not rested much after the previous fight; if they set off now, he feared there would be unnecessary casualties.
"Let the soldiers rest for a while, then prepare to advance on the Aliens' final territory."
Hearing Fuderi say this, Kern felt a weight lift from his heart; if he had ordered these soldiers to continue the attack, they certainly would have fought to the best of their ability, but it was fortunate that this Emperor's Angel had considered this point.
"Yes!"
When Fenongqiu found Randall, he discovered Randall was in the middle of prayer.
Fenongqiu did not disturb Randall's prayer; not until Randall finished did he walk up, place his right hand on Randall's shoulder armor, and say in a relaxed tone.
"How was it? I just killed an Alien with Fuderi that looked like it should have been an officer. And you?"
Randall turned to look at Fenongqiu, shook his head, and said.
"I have been clearing out those frost Aliens, leading those soldiers along with me. The arrival of the Divine Miracle means the Emperor is watching us; we must follow the Emperor's will to respond to the Father's expectations of us."
Seeing Randall speak this way, Fenongqiu withdrew his palm from Randall's shoulder armor, his tone becoming slightly more solemn.
"That is only natural, Randall. We will prove our loyalty with our actions."
About two and a half hours later, Fuderi looked at the Valhalla soldiers, whose condition was clearly much better than before. Fuderi slowly hoisted his chainaxe from the snow on the side; seeing Fuderi's movement, the other War Dog Space Marines also stopped what they were doing.
Seeing this, Kern Commissar immediately began to assemble the resting Valhalla soldiers. After simply eating some rations and recovering some strength, these Valhalla soldiers quickly gathered, waiting for the order to attack.
"Advance! For the Emperor!"
After receiving the order to advance from Fuderi, Kern Commissar shouted to the soldiers before him.
"For the Emperor!"
Having witnessed the Divine Miracle that appeared on those Emperor's Angels, the Valhalla soldiers, their faces filled with fanaticism, shouted in unison.
The frost kingdom of the Extreme Cold Zone.
Sikacheng looked at those murderous Human troops with a grave expression; the frost warriors beside him, who were still recruits, could not help but swallow hard upon seeing the Human soldiers outside.
"Is... is this the Human force that killed our leader?"
As he spoke, the recruit warrior gripped the Cold Wind Energy Gun in his hands, attempting to find a shred of comfort in the weapon he held.
Just as Sikacheng was wondering why those Human troops were not attacking directly, he saw several tall Humans wearing blue and white armor appear, carrying things similar to explosive devices, and they began to charge toward them. Following the actions of these tall Humans, a massive, swarming crowd of Human soldiers followed behind them with fanatical expressions, letting out deafening war cries.
"For the Emperor!"
Seeing this, Sikacheng immediately gave a loud order to the officers beside him.
"Activate the Ice Prism Cannon! Set the energy core's output power to the maximum!"
Sikacheng's roar echoed over the city walls. Twelve giant artillery batteries embedded in the Ice Towers began to charge, and the deep blue cold light condensed at the muzzles, firing blue energy bombs.
As the first wave of rune bullets tore through the air, Sikacheng saw that the 30 tall Humans in blue and white armor at the very front of the Human troops were moving very quickly, and the energy bombs could only hit the Human soldiers in thick coats behind them.
"Lock onto the Humans' armored vehicles! Destroy those armored vehicles..."
Before Sikacheng could finish speaking, he saw shells flying rapidly through the sky. These shells landed on the city walls and inside the walls, the sounds of explosions following one after another, drowning out Sikacheng's words for a time.
Sikacheng recovered from the explosions and looked further away, where rows of artillery had appeared on the battlefield at some point, beginning a rhythmic bombardment of the city walls.
The recruit warriors without combat experience were now clutching their energy guns, shivering behind the city walls.
"Fire back! Make those recruits counterattack! If they don't counterattack, then have them dealt with by military law!"
Sikacheng channeled the energy within his body to convey his shouts to every officer. Under the supervision of these officers, the recruit warriors finally took their energy guns and fired at the Human troops charging from afar, firing two shots before immediately hiding behind the city walls to avoid the artillery fire.
