Chapter 2208: Autumn Arrives Late in the Golden City (Part 8)
Bruce woke up from his bed, sleepy-eyed, and was quite surprised to find that Selina, who had been sleeping beside him, was gone. Suddenly, a foot kicked out from under the quilt.
Bruce really didn't know how one had to sleep to be able to turn oneself around while there was already someone on the bed. This could simply be called an acrobatic sport.
Although Selina could indeed perform acrobatics, it didn't mean she had to use her talent in this regard. Although Selina didn't sleep quietly before and always said Bruce pressed her hair, she could occasionally experience the sweet morning atmosphere of being together.
For a period of time recently, let alone the morning atmosphere, Bruce had to guess which way Selina's head was facing every morning, but one thing was certain: it definitely wasn't facing his side.
Bruce thought he had to have a good talk with Selina, so he lifted Selina's quilt, making Selina as sleepy and confused as he was.
"What's wrong, honey?" Selina turned over, draped an arm over Bruce's leg, muttered, and fell asleep again.
Bruce looked at the time, knowing they should have gotten up early today, so he sat up, and the movement woke Selina up again.
This time Selina was truly awake, but that didn't mean she had no complaints. She turned half her body sideways, propped her elbow on the edge of the bed, looked back at Bruce, and expressed her dissatisfaction with her gaze.
"Honey, I think our bed isn't a good performance stage, don't you think?"
Selina was stunned for a moment. Only then did she regain her sense of direction and figure out where she was and what posture she was in.
Bruce, who had stood up, turned around, kept the same direction as Selina, and flopped onto the bed, not feeling that this direction was anything special.
"Are you asking me why I want to sleep facing this way?" Selina tilted her head and said, "I don't know, I just feel it's more comfortable to sleep facing this way."
"But you didn't think so before."
"Yes, but you'd better not tell me that women are fickle. My body won't lie to me. It possesses a degree of sensitivity far beyond your imagination."
Bruce leaned over, pressed his upper body on Selina's, and buried his head in the crook of her neck, saying, "I think this is not beyond my imagination, honey."
Selina pushed him away with some disgust and said, "If you must flirt in the morning, do it earlier. Don't forget we're going shopping today. I have to match a dress for my latest opal necklace."
Bruce didn't leave completely, just half his body pressed on Selina's, his hand around her waist. The two of them started studying why Selina wanted to turn over to sleep in this posture.
"When we fell asleep, the posture was still normal, which shows it's not that I want to turn over to sleep," Selina clenched her fist, rested her chin on the second knuckle, and said, "Do you know? I can come and go freely over Gotham, a large part of which is due to my amazing balance."
"I'm not bragging, but I can maintain balance in almost all situations, even when I lose consciousness, so it's very likely that my body is warning me that sleeping towards the head of the bed is not comfortable, not balanced enough."
Bruce frowned slightly. As if thinking of something, he withdrew his hand, sat up, and then lay down to the edge of the bed in a push-up position to look down.
"You're right, honey, come down and see."
Selina was also a bit interested. She turned over and got out of bed to the other side, and looked at Bruce from under the bed.
"What's wrong?" Selina examined under the bed and found nothing.
Bruce pointed to the head of the bed, and then Selina saw that the main beam at the bottom of the bed supporting the head of the bed had sunken in the middle.
"It's not strange for wood to be in disrepair," Bruce stood up nimbly and said, "Now our bed head is low and the feet are high. This doesn't conform to human sleep engineering, and it's very likely to cause excessive blood to rush to the brain, producing symptoms of dizziness and insomnia."
"So my body turned over to maintain balance," Selina also stood up, stood on the other side of the bed, put her hands on her hips, and said, "Then what should we do? Change a bed?"
"I think we can repair it, as long as we pad the bottom," Bruce rubbed his chin and said, "But I'm not sure if we can find suitable sleepers. Maybe we can go to the craft market and take a look."
"Listen, I absolutely don't mean to complain about the environment here, but the number of antique cultural relics in this whole room is beyond imagination, and neither you nor your butler are professional maintenance personnel. Haven't you considered a thorough inspection?"
"In fact, we are considering buying a new house."
"Then go see it, why don't you take action?"
Bruce sat back on the edge of the bed, looked at Selina with a smile, and said, "Are you looking forward to moving into a new home?"
"It's your new home, not mine."
Selina also sat on the edge of the bed on her side. Bruce leaned over, and Selina turned back and kissed his cheek, saying, "Has anyone told you? Honey, you have a nesting tendency."
"What do you mean?"
"This is a strange love trait. Some couples are like migratory birds, whose expectation for love is to see more new things with the other party and see a wider world, while others like to nest on the spot and enjoy a warm and peaceful family life."
"Then are you the first kind?"
"Actually, I'm not a bird, so occasionally I will have a whim to go out and see, backpack for a month, and then I will feel very tired, and stay at home for half a year, except for solving basic survival needs, I don't go out at all."
"Like a cat?"
"Like a cat."
"Then have you envisioned a warm, comfortable nest that is completely to your liking?"
Selina laughed and said, "You describe your manor like this, will your butler agree?"
"In fact, this is indeed my lair, but I think for you, this word is too cold and neutral."
"And the word 'home' is too heavy for me."
"It's the same for me."
"But it's not just a house," Selina leaned against the head of the bed, used her toes to hook the slippers by her bed in a dangerous posture, and said, "In fact, when you said you wanted to buy a new house, various visions appeared in my mind for the first time."
"Tell me."
"Very messy, mostly unpresentable. I'll tell you when I sort them out. What I want to say is, I usually have no imagination for a house. It probably has a space for a bed, and that's enough."
"This may stem from a deprived childhood, but in fact, I am not someone who needs to find a sense of security from a residence."
"You are more yourself, not a resident. You don't use any residence to comfort yourself."
"Yes, but I still thought of some," Selina grabbed her thick and dense long hair and said, "Some positions of furniture, and lighting, but what determined these fantasies of mine wasn't the colors or styles I like. I have no concept of these."
"Then what is it?"
"How we two can live more comfortably while sharing a room. I envisioned we would have a huge sofa, one side is a comfortable seat, and the other side is a chaise longue and footstool, because you usually like to sit on it, and I like to throw myself into it. This can satisfy both of our needs."
"There will be a small lamp on it, not that kind of very luxurious large chandelier. Yes, it's the one in the middle of Wei En Manor now. It's too bright. I've noticed more than once that you also feel it's very dazzling. In fact, I feel the same way."
Selina spread her arms and said, "I said this is very unpresentable, because you obviously can't have such a living room. You need a lot of space for wine cabinets and display cabinets, and you need to make them brightly lit, magnificent."
"And don't say anything like 'I'm willing to do this for you.' This isn't even a suggestion. It will probably take ten thousand years to ferment before it's suitable for use."
Bruce was listening and thinking very seriously, even silent for a while. Selina leaned over and asked, "You aren't really considering decorating the living room like an ordinary person, are you? Do you know how much it will make the manor look like a haunted house if only one small lamp is installed?"
"I think you might have some errors in your understanding of a manor," Bruce gestured with a small gesture, then said, "In fact, Wei En Manor is a non-typical manor. It's more like a townhouse with only one owner."
Selina showed a confused expression.
"Do you know the difference between a manor and a villa?" Bruce asked.
"I only know that their biggest commonality is that I can't afford either, so I wouldn't go to understand the difference."
"In fact, a villa is a whole house. Although many modern villas have become unimaginably large, they are a whole building regardless of design concept or house structure."
"And a manor is a building complex, equivalent to dismantling functions into areas and placing them in different buildings: reception area, living area, entertainment area, viewing area."
"But in Wei En Manor, these things are all in one building," Selina looked out the window and said, "There is no house we must walk outside to reach. At most, the corridors are longer."
"Yes, because of various reasons at that time, we didn't build the manor too large, so if we buy a new manor, we can decorate a warmer living room in the building used for living, and then use a special reception hall to receive guests."
"So you mean you want to buy a new manor? You make it sound as simple as buying a piece of clothing."
"In fact, it is just like this. The biggest difficulty I encountered is that there are no options with suitable land, buildings, and styles."
"Then why not build one yourself?"
Bruce suddenly fell silent. Selina stared at him for a long time and pushed him again. Bruce looked at her and said, "The time for a manor to be completed is really too long."
"Are you in a hurry..." Selina stopped when she said this. She pursed her lips, stared at Bruce with wide eyes, and then conceded first, saying, "Don't be like this. You know this has nothing to do with what house we live in. Even on a broken bed, I can sleep well."
"You said I have a nesting tendency."
"Just my guess."
"Your guess is very right, and any mental problems I have must be more serious than you think, even if it's just a tendency."
"Okay, my big billionaire, do whatever you want. Get up quickly, we're going to the market."
"No, it's still too early," Bruce yawned, turned his head to the end of the bed, reached out to pull Selina over, and said, "The bad sleeping posture makes me a bit dizzy. I think we can sleep for a while longer." ===== CHAPTER 2209 =====
