Chapter 266: I Won’t Allow It
Charles Reed’s brow furrowed. "Why are you asking about this?"
"No."
Chloe Reed said domineeringly, "Pull the investment money out."
Charles Reed immediately glared at her. "What kind of nonsense are you talking about? What’s wrong with starting a company for your sister? It’s not like it affects you in any way."
"I won’t allow it." Chloe Reed crossed her arms. "She’s just an adopted daughter. What right does she have to spend our family’s money?"
She let out a soft sneer. "Have you forgotten that the Reed Group almost went bankrupt before?"
Her threatening tone and fearless demeanor made Charles Reed’s expression turn ugly.
The previous turmoil had cost him several sleepless nights, and the board of directors had begun to question his competence.
He certainly didn’t want to go through that kind of turmoil a second time.
But...
Charles Reed looked at her with a grim face. "Walker Grant set it up; he invested too. Chloe, so much has happened before. You’re always hurting your sister. We just want to compensate her in a small way. Stop being so unreasonable."
Chloe Reed sneered internally. ’So, after all this, Walker Grant is still so concerned about his sister-in-law?’
’Can’t compensate her in other ways, so they just start a company for her, feed her projects, and support her?’
Thinking of all the things he had done to avoid a divorce, she found it laughable.
Chloe Reed quickly composed herself and said, "I’ll make Walker Grant pull his investment too. In short, I don’t agree to you two starting a company for her. She doesn’t deserve it."
"Chloe Reed!"
Autumn Linton couldn’t listen anymore. She stood up and walked in front of her. "Why are you always so relentless with your sister? She doesn’t even appear in front of you anymore. Why can’t you be a little more forgiving and magnanimous?"
Chloe Reed gave a scornful laugh. "I am unforgiving. I am not magnanimous. If you don’t do as I say, I’m more than capable of starting a war of mutual destruction."
"You...!"
Autumn Linton was choked speechless, her face turning ugly.
"You’re becoming more and more outrageous!" Charles Reed was also furious. He snorted coldly. "I’d like to see how you make Walker Grant pull his investment. If he pulls out, I’ll pull out!"
Autumn Linton shot him a look. "Charles, you can’t! It’s already been set up. If we suddenly pull the funding, Sunny will be heartbroken."
But Charles Reed said, "The company was set up through Walker Grant’s connections. How could he possibly pull his investment?"
He glanced at Chloe Reed, his eyes tinged with a hint of contempt.
He felt that Chloe Reed didn’t know her place and was being far too willful and arrogant.
Walker Grant might indulge her once, but would he indulge her a second time?
"You all..."
Just then, the old madam lying in the hospital bed spoke, her voice extremely weak. "Are you all ganging up on Chloe?"
Hearing this, both Autumn Linton and Charles Reed’s expressions changed instantly!
Autumn Linton hurried over and explained, "Mom, that’s not it. It’s Chloe who’s being too unreasonable. She’s been at odds with her sister since they were children. A while ago, she even pushed her sister down the stairs, and her sister never said a word about it. We just want to compensate Sunny, and now she’s making a scene. Mom, you should talk to her too. It’s just a company, it won’t even cost that much. She should stop going against her sister."
"I didn’t push her. And growing up, it wasn’t me who was at odds with her. She was always setting me up. I was just protecting myself," Chloe Reed said in a very calm tone.
"Mom, you see? She’s still making excuses even now. Ugh... I really don’t know what to do with her anymore." Autumn Linton’s face was full of sorrow.
