Chapter 146: Wouldn't It Be Good to Have a Child of Ours?

~8 min read 1,431 words

A sudden sound of dry retching rang out in the tense, frozen atmosphere of the living room.

Sheng Yu's eyes turned slightly cold, and he kicked Mrs. Dong away.

Seeing the bright red blood spreading across the white marble floor and smelling the increasingly thick scent of blood in the air, Zhu Yuan felt her stomach churning violently.

Subconsciously grabbing the hem of Sheng Yu's clothes, she lowered her head, trying to take a deep breath to soothe herself, but she couldn't help but retch again.

A tugging sensation in her throat forced tears from her eyes.

Waves of panic washed over her.

Feeling the hand gripping his clothes trembling uncontrollably and hearing the sound of retching one after another, Sheng Yu's expression was unreadable.

Just as Zhu Yuan felt she had recovered slightly, Sheng Yu suddenly picked her up. Looking at her increasingly pale little face, his expression was cold and dark. "Situ, stay behind."

Zhu Yuan felt a wave of dizziness, her head lolling against the man's chest.

Feeling his powerful and strong heartbeat, her whole body felt as if its strength had been drained away; she couldn't even manage to lift her eyes.

In the snowy weather, she began to sweat, and the stray hairs on her forehead were quickly dampened by the perspiration.

Enzo drove fast and steadily, and they soon arrived at Doctor Qiao Mai's hospital.

Sheng Yu sat by the hospital bed holding Zhu Yuan, while Qiao Mai personally stepped forward to draw blood from her.

The moment the needle tip pierced her skin, Zhu Yuan knitted her brows, her consciousness gradually clearing.

Watching the dark red blood flow from the thin tube into the test tube, she vaguely heard Qiao Mai instruct a nurse to send it for testing.

Although she had never given birth or been pregnant, she knew that HCG was one of the standard tests for pregnancy.

"What does this mean?" Zhu Yuan was soaked in cold sweat, shivering with cold, her pale lips trembling. "Why check for this? I am not pregnant."

Every time she and Sheng Yu were together, they either used protection or she took the Medicine, and she had never missed a time.

Doctor Qiao Mai used a cotton swab to press against the needle puncture to stop the bleeding, lowering his head as he said, "It's a routine check, and we checked other things too."

What kind of routine check was this? Just because she was retching, they had to check if she was pregnant?

Even if she went to an outpatient clinic for a consultation, a doctor wouldn't just order such a test.

Zhu Yuan vaguely felt something was wrong, but for a moment, she couldn't say why.

A warm hand pulled down the sleeve she had rolled up.

She felt the steady heartbeat from the chest her back was pressed against, and scenes from the Dong Family Villa flashed through her mind. Her chest felt tight, and she felt nauseous again.

As soon as her body moved, Sheng Yu held her with one arm and stroked her back a few times with his other hand. "Want to throw up again?"

Zhu Yuan forced herself not to think about that scene, only then managing to recover.

Held in Sheng Yu's arms, she looked at him with wet eyes and pressed him, "Why did you want to check that?"

Sheng Yu's face remained as cold and detached as ever. "What's the harm in checking?"

This wasn't a question of whether there was any harm or not.

Zhu Yuan closed her eyes heavily, desperately trying to think of where the problem lay. What was it? What was the thing she vaguely felt was wrong?

The blood test results came out quickly.

Doctor Qiao Mai walked in with the report and shook his head at Sheng Yu with a cryptic expression. "Miss Zhu is not pregnant. It is preliminarily estimated to be a physiological reaction caused by emotional stress."

On the way to the laboratory with him, Enzo had told him what happened at the Dong Family Villa.

Even if Miss Zhu were bold, having experienced a brush with death and witnessed such a bloody and brutal scene, it was a miracle she hadn't fainted.

The results were out, and as expected, it wasn't a pregnancy issue.

Sheng Yu took the report, glanced at it, and was about to crumple it into a ball and throw it into the trash can.

But it was snatched away by Zhu Yuan.

She spread out the report; the values were clearly marked, and she was not pregnant.

Zhu Yuan let out a sigh of relief.

Seeing her look of relief, Sheng Yu narrowed his eyes, pinched her chin, and forced her to look at him. "Are you that afraid of being pregnant, or do you just not want to carry my child?"

Qiao Mai and Enzo exited the hospital room.

Zhu Yuan looked into his eyes. Her eyes were red-rimmed from the tears shed earlier due to the retching, making her look both pitiful and fragile. She opened her mouth, only to find she didn't know how to speak at all.

A sudden soreness hit her nasal cavity, and tears welled up from the corners of her eyes; she let out a sob.

"Was the after-sex Medicine you gave me before fake?"

The hand pinching her chin stiffened in its stroking motion, and the man's eyes grew even darker and deeper.

The answer was self-evident.

Zhu Yuan let out a bitter laugh, tears streaming down her face, and she raised her hand to slap Sheng Yu across the face!

"Despicable!"

A red mark instantly appeared on Sheng Yu's fair face. He gritted his back teeth, clamped down on her wrist to block her second slap, and questioned her in a low voice, "Why must you be so clever?"

Looking at this face, this person, he was full of schemes.

Zhu Yuan felt as if she had fallen into an ice cellar, murmuring, "You are truly terrifying."

"Terrifying?" Sheng Yu pinched her chin and lowered his head to kiss the corner of her lips as if to soothe her. "Wouldn't it be good to have a child of ours?"

Zhu Yuan pushed him away with all her might. "No, it wouldn't!"

"A child is the crystallization of a parent's love, and I don't love you! A person as calculating and brutal as you only makes me feel terrified and want to stay away. I don't love you!"

Sheng Yu's expression turned gloomy. "You don't love me? When I pulled you out of the car in the suburbs and held you, why did you hug me back? If you didn't love me, you wouldn't rely on the sense of security I give you!"

He chuckled softly. "I don't believe it, Zhu Yuan."

Zhu Yuan retreated inch by inch. "If I loved someone, I would accompany him through fire and water. If I loved you, I wouldn't be afraid of any danger, but I want to leave you—don't you understand yet?"

Sheng Yu's gaze froze for a moment, and a layer of bloodshot veins spread across the bottom of his eyes.

"Say that again."

Zhu Yuan opened her mouth, but in an instant, Sheng Yu seized her jaw and kissed her lips fiercely.

Inside the brightly lit hospital room, Zhu Yuan's clothes were torn open; the man forcefully parted her legs and looked up from her chest, but upon seeing her hollow, lifeless eyes, his hands froze.

Zhu Yuan tugged at the corner of her bitten, broken lip, and tears fell silently.

"I beg you, let me go, Sheng Yu."

Sheng Yu loomed over her, his slightly rough thumb wiping away her falling tears as he said cruelly, "I told you, that's impossible. Stay by my side obediently; I will pretend I never heard what you said today."

Zhu Yuan closed her eyes.

No matter how Sheng Yu teased her body, she remained indifferent, a physiological resistance.

It was unknown how much time had passed when Sheng Yu sat on the edge of the bed, loosened his collar, and pulled a pack of cigarettes and a lighter from his pocket.

Out of the corner of her eye, Zhu Yuan got off the bed, "Sheng Yu, I beg you to let me go."

Suddenly, her knees bent, and she was about to kneel on the floor.

Sheng Yu's face turned livid as he gripped her wrist and yanked her into his arms, "You want to leave me that badly? You'd even throw away your dignity!"
