Chapter 92: How Should the Investigation Team Respond?

~8 min read 1,418 words

After returning to the car, Lu Chen rubbed his brow with a slight headache.

"Go to the Saimachang."

Given Luosha's temperament, she should not have left the Saimachang yet.

To be honest, Lu Chen really didn't want to go over now and disturb Luosha's mood.

But regarding this matter, Lu Chen really didn't want to make the decision himself.

Actually, Bureau Chief Zhang had already made it very clear: it was just an introduction, to present a gift to Luosha in advance.

As for the crisis he mentioned, it was merely a pretext.

He didn't believe for a second that Bureau Chief Zhang couldn't even handle an Investigation Team.

If he couldn't even handle this kind of thing, then it would be useless even if he sought Luosha's help.

Because Bureau Chief Zhang himself would be treated as a discarded pawn, and leaving his home would already be the best option.

Butler Wang slowly turned the car around and drove toward the Saimachang.

Before long, Lu Chen was led to Luosha's private room.

He knocked on the door lightly.

"Enter."

A cold, clear voice rang out, seemingly carrying a hint of laziness.

The waiter opened the door with a copper key, but didn't push it open, instead stepping back carefully.

Lu Chen pushed the door open and walked in; after Luosha saw Lu Chen, she spoke softly.

"Lock the door."

She stood up, wearing a bathrobe, and walked toward the small side door.

"Lu Chen, do you want to come in?"

She looked back, raised an eyebrow, and closed the small door.

After quite a while, Luosha finally walked out wearing a red dress, black silk stockings, and red-soled high heels.

She sat on the sofa next to Lu Chen, pulled out a lady's cigarette, and lit it.

"Mr. Lu, have you finished practicing your horsemanship?"

Luosha crossed her legs, her high heels dangling from her toes and swaying slightly.

Lu Chen didn't answer, but instead took three documents out of his briefcase, placed them on the empty side table, and moved the table to a spot Luosha could reach with a stretch of her hand.

He didn't smoke a Cigar, but took out a pack of 555s, pulled one out, and lit it.

"I was just called over by Bureau Chief Zhang from Nitan as soon as I returned to the Zhuangyuan. Here, this is for you."

"There are countless people wanting to send me money and shares every day; why should I accept yours?"

Luosha rolled her eyes at Lu Chen, didn't look at the documents, but instead propped her chin on her arm and looked at Lu Chen with interest.

She took a light puff of her cigarette, her crossed legs swaying slightly.

"The news brought by Bureau Chief Zhang is that the Daiying mainland has already dispatched an Investigation Team to look into the Wodehua matter; Nitan should be impossible to avoid."

Lu Chen leaned back slightly, also crossed his legs, glanced at Luosha, and turned his gaze back to the racetrack.

"Then I'll have to see the gift Bureau Chief Zhang provided."

The corners of Luosha's mouth lifted slightly; she glanced at the three documents but didn't open them.

She only looked at the table of contents.

"It seems the one with the 4% shares is mine, while those two documents are yours, Mr. Lu."

"Only that approval document is mine. As for the shares, I don't know the background of this company. Although Bureau Chief Zhang says it's a distribution company, who knows?"

Lu Chen shrugged and said softly.

"With my current ability, taking these shares is like holding a hot potato; it's better not to take them."

"Mr. Lu, are you trying to pass the buck to me?"

Luosha nodded slightly, took a puff of her Cigar, and also looked toward the racetrack, a hint of a smile and depth flashing in her eyes.

"I only accept what I should accept. Mr. Lu can set up a new offshore company to hold them on my behalf. I will handle the trouble, but you will have to communicate with Bureau Chief Zhang."

"Does Miss Luosha trust me that much?"

Lu Chen nodded slightly, his tone carrying a hint of teasing.

"You can't run away, so what's the harm in giving you a little trust?"

Luosha glanced at Lu Chen, looked back, and said softly.

"Unless you disappear from the world, I'll always be able to find you."

"Then what if I can run away?"

Lu Chen looked deeply at the extremely relaxed Luosha, his eyes carrying a hint of playfulness.

"Then that would mean I have no eyes, that I'm blind. What else could it be?"

Luosha looked at Lu Chen in surprise, shrugged her fair, rounded shoulders, her tone carrying a hint of helplessness, and one could even hear the sound of teeth grinding.

"Then you had better never appear in this world again for the rest of your life, otherwise..."

But the coldness in her voice and her indignant tone really made it impossible for Lu Chen to hear any sense of threat.

Yet Lu Chen knew clearly that if his guess was correct, there was a high probability that Luosha could actually do it.

However, who knows?

"Then I'll have to be careful. It wouldn't be good if I were caught by Miss Luosha while on a business trip."

Lu Chen smiled and said casually.

"There's a new horse in the next race. Let's make a bet and see what place it takes. If you win, I can give you another percent of shares regarding Bureau Chief Zhang's matter. If you lose, then I won't participate in this matter."

Luosha's eyes rolled, the corners of her mouth lifted slightly, and her cold, clear voice seemed to carry a hint of excitement.

"The previous agreement remains unchanged; this is your turf, how would I know the ability of this horse?"

Lu Chen rolled his eyes, glanced at Luosha, and took a drag of his cigarette.

"If we're going to bet, let's bet on something else. How about this: the 100 million in operating funds you provided—if I win, your dividend remains the same; if I lose, I'll give you an extra ten percent."

"Fine."

Luosha rolled her eyes at Lu Chen.

"You just want me to put in the effort; it's not like you can't get this done yourself."

"It's more convenient for you to handle it; you can get it settled with just one word."

Lu Chen shrugged, his tone carrying a hint of helplessness.

"If I handle it, I have to go find Elder Sun, Elder Wang... running from house to house. Can I even get out of each place in an hour?"

After taking a drag of his cigarette, he continued.

"It's a matter you could settle with a few phone calls, yet you insist on making me run the errands, right? Do I owe you something? It's you they're trying to curry favor with, not me."

"Forget it, forget it, it's too much trouble. Let Elder Hou have the headache; he can handle Bureau Chief Zhang on his own anyway. Just a little instruction will do."

Luosha waved her hand, her tone carrying a hint of complaint, and then continued.

"The ability of this new horse can definitely get it into the top 4. What place do you think it will rank?"

"How about this: let's bet on this race and see if it can win the championship?"

Lu Chen narrowed his eyes and spoke directly.

"I choose 'cannot,' hahaha."

"You're just taking advantage of me! No way, I choose 'cannot' too!"

Luosha glanced at Lu Chen, reached out to pick up the red wine on the table, and took a sip.

"So we've reached an agreement, then?"

Lu Chen took a drag of his cigarette, a hint of a smile in his eyes, and relaxed a bit more.

He lay on the sofa, waiting for the race to begin.

Luosha nodded silently, and as evening approached, Lu Chen took his leave.

Still carrying the 3 document folders in his hand, he returned to the Zhuangyuan.

"Please have Assistant Hu come over."

In the study, Lu Chen poured himself a cup of coffee before speaking softly to Butler Wang, who was standing outside the door.

He opened the document folder for the 1% stake and began to read it in detail.

His pupils shrank slightly, his eyes filled with a sense of realization and deep joy.
