Chapter 677
Luo En said.
"Help me find that guy."
The man stared at Luo En in surprise; during their previous exchanges, he had already learned that someone had been lurking in the shadows, constantly observing Luo En and the girl, and had created many strange phenomena.
He shook his head and said.
"The person you're talking about is extremely powerful—I'm no match for him."
Luo En said.
"You only need to find him; the rest I'll handle."
But the man still refused—he had stayed here only because he valued his life immensely, and if he now intervened, he would very likely be killed; he absolutely refused.
Luo En said.
"Don't waste this chance you're being given. This is your only opportunity; otherwise, you'll be stuck with us, and then you'll have no choice but to deal with him."
As the man continued to hesitate, Luo En suddenly heard faint footsteps outside—he was astonished; this place was extremely secluded—who would suddenly come here?
He glanced at the girl, and she immediately moved toward that direction; she suddenly sensed an intense stench of blood.
The girl's face turned pale, and she hurried back to Luo En and said.
"Something strange seems to be outside—could they be Blood Demons again?"
Previously, upon smelling blood, they had encountered Blood Demons, so the girl had a strong aversion to the scent.
Luo En immediately stepped forward and also smelled the bloodstink.
The man beside him said.
"This smell doesn't resemble a Blood Demon's, but it's still strange—no ordinary person could emit such a scent."
Luo En asked softly.
"Did you set the Blood Demon?"
But the man still shook his head and said.
"No."
Luo En froze—he hadn't asked before because he'd assumed only a Blood Demon could have done it, but now the man denied it.
"If not you, then who? Only you were there at the time."
The man shook his head and said.
"That's unjust—I was hiding and saw another person trying to attack you, but after you killed the Blood Demon, that person seemed to vanish?"
Luo En was stunned and quickly asked.
"What did that person look like?"
As they spoke, the sounds outside grew louder; Luo En immediately went on alert, slipping silently to the door, where he sensed the bloodstink had already drifted in—this scent was utterly different from what he'd felt before.
This bloodstink didn't seem to infect the mind like the previous one had. Just as Luo En prepared to rush out, a massive claw shot in from outside.
Following the claw, an eagle's head emerged—it looked like a giant beast, yet it radiated a thick, reeking bloodstink.
Luo En swiftly retreated; the girl, seeing this, widened her eyes.
"What kind of creature is this? I've never seen anything like it before."
The man beside them was also astonished—they hadn't expected the bloodstink to come from this thing.
"Quick, let's get out of here—this thing looks dangerous."
He turned and started to run; Luo En followed close behind, and the three immediately sprinted forward, while the giant beast flapped its wings and charged toward them at high speed.
Luo En was baffled—he'd never seen such a monster, yet here it was.
The man's expression was tense; he seemed to understand why the person had captured him—what exactly did you do? Confess honestly.
The man helplessly looked at Luo En.
"I did nothing—this has nothing to do with me."
Behind them, the beast's speed increased; though all three were running, their pace clearly couldn't match the beast's.
Soon they could feel the beast drawing nearer; the girl whispered.
"What do we do now? Are we just going to keep running? And ahead—it looks like a dead end; we can't escape."
Luo En looked ahead—the entrance was blocked by rocks.
With a thunderous boom, the beast opened its mouth and spat fire—roaring flames surged toward Luo En.
Though Luo En moved quickly, he felt a wave of heat behind him; since he couldn't dodge, he had no choice but to fight—he suddenly snapped back to himself and charged straight at the beast.
The girl's eyes widened; she hadn't expected Luo En to charge forward at this moment, and she shouted.
"Stop! Stop right now!"
But Luo En, consumed by rage, had already reached the beast's front—he felt his inner energy surging wildly; in that instant, he sensed a sudden transformation within himself.
The girl tried to summon her curses to aid Luo En, but she suddenly found her summoning ability had failed here—some energy in the vicinity was blocking her signals.
Luo En lunged forward, swinging his fists and hammering the beast's body—each strike sparked violently, yet these attacks had no effect on the beast.
Luo En was astonished—the beast's defense was astonishingly strong.
With a thunderous crash, Luo En was thrown back several steps; he stared again at the beast—the force he'd just felt left him stunned.
The girl rushed to Luo En's side and asked anxiously.
"Are you alright?"
Luo En shook his head and stared at the beast.
"This thing has thick skin and tough flesh—its defense is impossible to break through."
At that moment, Luo En suddenly felt the temperature of the entire area spike sharply—perhaps from the beast's erupting flames.
But Luo En sensed another energy, faint yet unmistakable, slowly extending toward them.
32, act.
Luo En's expression subtly changed; he could feel that this energy was different from what he had imagined, and just then, a tremendous force slammed toward them.
Luo En tried to resist, but the force hurled him straight through the air, and he crashed heavily to the ground once more.
The girl and the man beside her were about to rush forward and help Luo En up, but at that moment, they felt the energy around them shift again.
The beast suddenly stopped, and behind her appeared a shadowy figure; when she saw that figure, she suddenly sensed a familiar aura, and she stared at the shadow in shock.
Though his face was unclear, the energy radiating from him was terrifying.
"Who are you?"
The girl demanded angrily.
The shadowy figure smiled.
"You've been searching for me all this time—and still don't recognize me?"
The girl's heart sank to the bottom of her chest.
"Are you the one who made those corpses?"
The man burst into loud laughter.
"That's right—me."
The girl demanded angrily.
"What do you want? Why kill so many people?"
The man's tone turned grim.
"This matter has nothing to do with you. I killed them because I needed their lives to refine souls—but I never expected you to meddle in something that doesn't concern you."
Luo En felt his insides churn violently; he struggled hard to stand up.
The man smiled at Luo En and the girl.
"I must admit, you've got some skill—you nearly uncovered me."
Luo En wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth.
"I didn't expect you to show yourself—so this time, I won't let you leave so easily."
The man laughed.
"Bold words. Do you really think your strength can stop me? If it could, I wouldn't even be here."
Luo En was about to step forward when the girl grabbed his arm.
"How are you feeling?"
Luo En said.
"It's not great—but taking down this guy is still more than enough."
As he spoke, energy began circulating within him.
