Chapter 19: The Central Team Doesn

~8 min read 1,405 words

Time slipped by, and another five days passed.

In the main hall, all five active members of the Central Team were gathered here.

Leaving Wu Xian’s condition aside, the other four were fully armed, clad in tight black combat suits and tactical vests loaded with magazines, firearms, and other weapons—exactly the posture of professional special agents, no less formidable than Mathieu and others from Resident Evil.

“Good, good, finally looking like real Lunhuizhe .”

Watching the four before him—whose spirit and demeanor had changed utterly since their first entry into the main space—Wu Xian’s lips curled slightly, a hint of satisfaction in his eyes.

Over these days, aside from the fixed eight hours of sleep daily, Wu Xian spent every other moment training the four, striving to give them self-preservation skills within a short time.

Of course, normal training didn’t require a jeep—that was Wu Xian’s special “surprise” for Zheng Zha.

He did this because the guy had exchanged for the bloodline of a vampire viscount, his vitality rivaling that of a cockroach; ordinary training had little effect.

Only such chaos could make him feel the fear of death and thus find the chance to unlock his first-level gene lock.

What, you ask why I’d go through all this trouble? Why not just use the T-virus to unlock gene locks for everyone?

Heh, remember the Curse of the Demon Squad warning.

Anyone who’s read the original Infinite should know: according to the main space’s rules, if three members of a Lunhui team unlock gene locks, the Lunhui world unlocks team battle mode—either the next horror film or the one after.

If the Central Team unlocked all at once, Wu Xian calculated, the most likely scenario would be a team battle in The Grudge.

The Grudge is already a universally recognized hell Fuben ; add team battle, and the difficulty skyrockets—slip up once, and it’s total annihilation.

Even Wu Xian, if he barely survived, would likely face the risk of being erased for negative points.

Therefore, for safety’s sake, Wu Xian planned to temporarily conceal the hidden effect of the T-virus—at least until the Resident Evil 1 storyline ended, or until that man arrived, before considering collective unlocking.

Back to the matter at hand!

In short, the jeep training method, though it seemed fueled by personal grudges, was undeniably effective.

In just half a day, Zheng Zha successfully entered the gene lock state; the sight of him lying on the ground like a dead fish was the side effect of unlocking.

As for Zhan Lan and the other two, Wu Xian designed training regimens for them that were far more conventional.

Shooting drills, close-quarters combat, physical conditioning, reaction tests, timed weapon disassembly/reassembly, battlefield first aid—all modern military training programs were copied directly by Wu Xian.

Of course, there was one most important training: getting beaten up!

More precisely: beaten until near death.

Not just breaking their bodies, but crushing their dignity.

That meant beating them while transforming into a master of insults, mocking and taunting them in the most infuriating ways possible.

Only when they could endure being ground into the dirt, humiliated repeatedly, without reacting—would the training end; what remained was to test the final results through practice.

“Ready?”

Wu Xian looked at the four, his tone unusually serious: “As previously stated, everyone will return to the Resident Evil world, during the gap between Resident Evil 1 and 2.

Your mission: survive ten days, clear as many zombies as possible from Raccoon City, and attempt to rescue Alice and Matt and other plot characters from Umbrella.”

“Undoubtedly, the final mission is dangerous—you could die at any moment, even trigger Resident Evil 2’s plot prematurely.”

“But precisely because of that, if you succeed, the rewards won’t be small. Based on my understanding of the main space, you’ll each get at least two C-rank Zhixianjuqing and no less than five thousand reward points.”

Hearing the last sentence, the four instantly held their breath; their earlier tension vanished, replaced by firm resolve.

Having experienced enhancements before, they knew well the value of reward points and Zhixianjuqing —especially Zheng Zha. If he gained a B-rank Juqing and sufficient points this time, he could upgrade his bloodline to vampire count level.

At that point, his power would surge exponentially; even facing Wu Xian, he might not be defenseless.

“By the way, I’ll be going with you, but I’ll operate alone. So if you die in the Resident Evil world, it’s none of my concern—don’t expect me to save you.”

Saying this, Wu Xian glanced at the four again: “One last time: are you ready? If you regret now, I allow you to withdraw from this mission—but from then on, I won’t consider you a teammate again, and I won’t offer any form of help…”

Don’t blame me for being cruel. The Central Team isn’t a breeding squad, but it has one fundamental principle: never nurture slackers!”

The cold, ringing voice echoed through the main hall; Wu Xian even used spiritual power—if any of the four now harbored retreat, this was their final chance.

“Captain! We’re ready! No one will quit!”

Zheng Zha stepped forward, replying loudly; the other three offered no objection—their attitude spoke volumes.

“Good. Then…”

Wu Xian looked up at the glowing orb above and shouted: “Main Space, teleport everyone to the Resident Evil 1 world for ten days. Reward points deducted from me.”

The moment he finished, brilliant light flashed violently—and the main hall was instantly empty.

Yet the next second, the familiar glow reappeared; the Central Team reappeared once more—but their condition had changed utterly since a second ago.

“Main Space! Full restoration! Reward points deducted from each individual!”

Five beams of light descended, then one retracted, pulling the other four into the air.

A closer look revealed varying degrees of injury on all four.

Zhan Lan’s face was pale, eyes tightly shut; wounds gushed blood from her left shoulder and thigh, as if torn by claws. Under the main space’s light, they slowly healed, revealing porcelain-smooth skin beneath.

Li Xiaoyi and Mu Gang’s conditions were even worse.

Not quite unrecognizable, but definitely disfigured—drenched in blood all over, yet no fatal wounds. After about twenty minutes, they dropped from the light, fully restored.

“Close call—I thought I wouldn’t make it back. Thank goodness for Brother Zheng…”

Li Xiaoyi wore a look of survival, turning to gaze at the broken figure in midair, eyes filled with worry and guilt.

Zheng Zha… his condition couldn’t be called merely injured—it was true disability.

His entire left arm was gone; both legs were visibly fractured and twisted; his chest bore a massive hole piercing clean through—clearly, the attacker had been merciless.

Well, strictly speaking, the attacker wasn’t human—it was one of the most infamous bio-weapons in Resident Evil: the Tyrant.

They’d provoked it because of Wu Xian’s mission: rescue Alice and Matt, kidnapped by Umbrella. But as soon as Zheng Zha’s team infiltrated Umbrella’s base, they were surrounded and hunted by countless soldiers.

After a brutal fight, under Zheng Zha’s leadership, the Central Team barely repelled the soldiers, rescued Matt—who hadn’t yet been transformed into a Licker—and began a fighting retreat, trying to escape Umbrella.

Meanwhile, sensing the Central Team’s unusual nature, Umbrella’s villainous supervisor Kane immediately requested the company’s newest bio-weapon: the Tyrant, for pursuit.

There were three Tyrants total—each capable of fighting an entire small army, far beyond the Central Team’s current capacity to resist.

To protect Zhan Lan and the others, Zheng Zha unleashed his second-level gene lock, fully activating his vampire viscount power, and successfully killed one Tyrant.

But Zheng Zha had never entered second-level gene lock before; he couldn’t control its duration, and soon lost mobility due to side effects, leaving him vulnerable to a devastating Tyrant strike.

At the last possible moment, Wu Xian—who had been hiding—suddenly appeared, smashing two Tyrants with three blows, then carried the Central Team and Matt through Umbrella’s blockade, barely making it back before the timer expired.

As usual, please follow! Please follow! Please follow!

Also, since this novel is serialized simultaneously, I can’t write everything in detail, so the return from Resident Evil is skipped—tomorrow, Luo Li revives, followed by another enhancement; the day after, we enter Alien.

Also, Zheng Zha nearly entered second-level gene lock fighting the Queen—here, with the protagonist’s training, entering second-level after fighting a Tyrant isn’t unreasonable… right? →_→
