Chapter 35: We
, The Genie Starting from Marvel
Bang, bang, bang!
Johnson pounded on the door, making it ring. "Frank, are you asleep? Frank?"
Frank pulled the door open with a swish, looking at Johnson with an unkind expression.
"You're not asleep either."
"Can't you tell I was woken up by you? Forget it, what's the matter? So excited?"
Frank yawned and followed Johnson toward the lobby. Playing "Nostalgia is also not asleep" here? You'd better really have something!
The living room table was piled with all kinds of sundries; these were all things Frank had helped Johnson borrow from Nick Fury by using his face.
"I discovered a main material for a magic potion! Except for the name, it's almost identical. Placed on the conversion device, the intermediate conversion consumption is also very low!"
Johnson very excitedly took out a huge goat horn from under the table. The goat horn had strange patterns in circles, giving one a dizzying, illusory feeling.
"What is this?" Frank flipped it over and looked at it several times, but he really didn't recognize which kind of goat's horn this was.
"The list says it's the horn of a rock mountain goat after genetic mutation. The quantity is very scarce, purely relying on luck; it cannot be artificially bred. Its meat quality is even worse than ordinary goats, and its horn is mainly circulated as a collectible." Johnson looked at the table and said.
"I discovered that in the magic potion, it can be benchmarked against the material—Hornachis Grey Goat single horn, but the performance isn't quite there; I have to make up for it with quantity."
"Meaning this one isn't enough?" Frank understood Johnson's meaning.
"That's right. The formula calls for the single horn crystal of a Hornachis Grey Goat. I know how to turn it into a crystal, but one crystal requires at least four horns. Considering failure redundancy, I might need eight." Johnson said.
"Fine, I'll help you ask." Frank made a call to Nick Fury. "Director, you're not asleep yet, are you..."
After some pleasantries and communication, Frank hung up the phone, his expression not very good. "One piece of good news and one piece of bad news, which one do you want to hear first?"
"Good news."
"The good news is that although the inventory isn't that large, Nick Fury said he can help find a sufficient quantity."
"That's great!" Johnson was excited for a moment, then continued to ask a bit nervously, "What about the bad news?"
"The bad news is that this thing is very expensive. The price of the raw material is 300 to 500 US dollars per gram." Frank's mouth twitched. "Because the rarity is too high, this kind of material is very popular among the wealthy when made into collectibles."
Johnson was stunned listening to this. He looked at the horn, which was longer than his forearm, and weighed it twice. "This thing must weigh two pounds..."
"Probably more..." Frank didn't even know what to say.
"Meaning it's worth at least 300,000 US dollars, much more expensive than the equivalent in gold... Speaking of which... 2.4 million US dollars, a bit hard to bear..." Johnson felt his future was hopeless. If he hadn't become a Diviner, he would have had a hard time saving up so much money in his life.
No, wait, if he hadn't become a Diviner, he wouldn't need this broken horn either; he didn't want to collect it.
"I can't help you with this. I don't save money; I can take out at most 10,000 dollars." Frank sighed and followed up. He was also strapped for cash.
The Cabin didn't need to pay for water and electricity, didn't need to pay property tax, didn't need to pay property management fees, otherwise Frank wouldn't even have 10,000 US dollars. Every time he earned money, he would spend it; after all, he didn't know when he would die at someone else's hands.
"I saved a little, but it's a drop in the bucket..." Johnson was going crazy. "Frank! Let's go rob a bank!"
"Are you serious? If it's not robbing the main branch, ordinary outlets don't have much money; you might have to rob many. If you go to the main vault, you might be gone that very day." Frank comforted him, knowing Johnson was just saying it casually.
"Ah!" Johnson lay back, squirming on the sofa like a maggot. "So annoying, why is it that after becoming a Sequence holder, I'm even shorter on money than when I was an ordinary person."
"If it really doesn't work, I'll help you make a wish to exchange for some money?"
"Even if you want to comfort me, don't use such a stupid way. No, let's run to Las Vegas once; I'll cheat with divination!" Johnson gritted his teeth and said. He originally didn't touch gambling.
As for wish points, what kind of big fool would use them to exchange for money? Not to mention how much could be exchanged, the fact that money can't buy this point is enough to veto this idea.
"No need either. Eh, I'll contact Nick Fury again. Do you believe it? He must be waiting for me to call him right now." Frank rubbed his temples. He hated dealing with someone like Nick Fury who had eight hundred heart-eyes. Relatively speaking, someone like Johnson was easier to get along with.
Another round of communication, Frank had tried his best to speak quickly, but it still took more than an hour.
After putting down the phone, Frank looked at Johnson, who was already a bit impatient. "He gave a few conditions; you choose one."
"Talked it over with him. After you agree to one of the conditions, he will be responsible for bringing eight goat horns of the same weight as the one in your hand, free of charge, and if there are similar needs in the future, he will also help."
Johnson nodded to show he understood.
"The first choice: you join the Department of Homeland Resources and Strategic Defense, becoming an agent directly under Nick Fury. He promises a monthly salary of 200,000 US dollars, 13-month pay, subsidies for attendance, and as long as you join, the rating will definitely be higher than Hawkeye's."
Johnson had no great interest in this option. He didn't want to sell himself for this little bit of stuff, not even nominally.
"The second: Nick Fury wants you to help them capture Woody alive, and figure out what exactly happened in the middle. Incidentally, you also need to screen for undercover agents internally. He is willing to pay an additional reward of 10 million US dollars besides what was talked about."
"I'm afraid I'll have the life to take it, but not the life to spend it."
Can this matter be something Johnson gets involved in alone? Woody's side was already dangerous enough, and there was a high probability of facing a major force. Could someone who could bury an undercover agent in S. H. I. E. L. D. be easy to solve?
"The third: A group of special killers suddenly appeared in the underworld. He hopes you can help find some information. In addition, he also wants you to provide three kinds of materials you think are useful, and give their approximate uses."
"Damn!" Johnson cursed angrily. "This spymaster really knows the principle of wanting to open a window but having to tear down the house first!"
Frank was also helpless. Nick Fury sometimes played a blatant conspiracy. For example, he knew that Johnson and Frank, given a choice, had very high moral standards, higher than ordinary people, which was why he gave these choices.
"The third one, then. He really has us pinched!" Johnson gritted his teeth and prepared to agree; he had to hurry now.
"Fine, I'll talk to him again, see if I can get you some more funding; it will probably be useful in the future." Frank patted Johnson on the shoulder and said. ===== CHAPTER 36 =====
