Chapter 369: Not a single hair lost
A new home, a spring dream, a period of time filled with love. I held Huang Weiwei, leaning against the headboard, my hands lingering on her smooth skin, unable to bear leaving even for a second.
The sun outside the window was brilliant! It was a rare sunny day.
Life suddenly became beautiful, as if I were in a honey pot; even the air in the room, floating with a faint ambiguity, suddenly became so wonderful.
This was a virgin land that had never been cultivated, and I had planted the seeds of hope.
The earth grew gentle, radiating boundless maternal love everywhere. The woman in my arms had entrusted herself to me, and suddenly, it seemed as if boundless pressure had been added to my body.
My body grew weary, like an old ox that had just finished pulling a plow, and I quietly chewed on the tranquility of the years.
"Husband!" Huang Weiwei called me lazily, reached into the quilt, and giggled.
A woman is like a flower; once picked by a bee, she immediately becomes even more beautiful.
"He's asleep," she said, stroking me, tucking her head into the quilt, then immediately popping out, shyly burying herself in my arms.
I turned on my side, took out a pack of cigarettes, but before I could light one, she snatched it away and threw it under the bed.
"No smoking!" she warned me sternly.
"I've been smoking for many years; if I suddenly stop, I'll get sick," I said with a grin, reaching for another one.
"What a strange theory!" she said coldly, "In the past, you smoked, and I didn't stop you because I didn't have the qualifications. Now you want to smoke, but you're the one who isn't qualified."
I wanted to laugh, but seeing her serious expression, I had to shut my mouth.
"If you really must smoke, you have to wait until our child is born and grown up before you can smoke again," she said, gently turning my face and kissing my lips lightly.
"I'll listen to you," I said, crumpling the pack of cigarettes into a ball and throwing it into the trash can by the bed.
"Good boy! That's my good husband," she lowered her head, licking my chest, her face full of spring color.
"Husband, I want more!" she said softly, as if we were an old married couple long separated, the words coming so naturally.
My whole body felt like it had been set on fire, and I was restless.
Just as we were entangled, the phone under the pillow rang.
I picked it up and saw it was a call from Lin Xiaoxi. My heart suddenly gave a start, remembering that I had brought her to Hengyue City on New Year's Eve, dumped her at my cousin's house, and left, only to completely forget about her afterward.
"Chen Feng, Happy New Year!" Lin Xiaoxi on the phone didn't seem angry, her tone still flat.
"Happy New Year!" I returned the blessing and wanted to get up to answer it elsewhere. As soon as I moved, I realized I was being held tightly by Huang Weiwei and couldn't move at all.
"Where are you?" she asked me, still flatly.
"At home!" I said, moving the phone to my other ear.
"You dumped me and didn't care?"
"That's not the case."
"Can you explain?"
"No."
"Since you can't explain, you have to take responsibility." She hung up the phone, leaving me bewildered and at a loss.
"Who was it?"
"Someone from the county."
"A woman?"
"Yes."
"A beauty?"
"I suppose so."
"What do you mean 'I suppose so'?" Huang Weiwei raised her head, stared at me, and suddenly reached out and pinched me hard, twisting with force, making me wince and cry out in pain.
"Confess honestly! Who is it?" I sneered, not letting go at all.
I gasped in pain and had to answer her obediently: "An announcer from the county TV station named Lin Xiaoxi. She's the daughter of Secretary Guan's old comrade-in-arms."
I added, gilding the lily.
"What does she want with you?" She let go of her hand and asked aggressively.
"Nothing important. She hitched a ride with me to the city before the New Year. Just paying a New Year's visit, that's all."
"A New Year's visit? And 'that's all'?" Huang Weiwei looked at me with disbelief, pondered for a moment, and said, "I want to meet her."
"What's there to meet about? No." I seemed to grow guilty.
"Are you going to let me meet her or not?" She reached down and pinched me again.
"Fine, fine, let's meet," I begged for mercy, "When do you want to meet?"
"Right now."
"Right now?"
"Yes, right now." She handed me the phone, "Call her, we're going."
She got out of bed to get dressed and threw my clothes at me all at once.
I was at a loss, unable to guess what the outcome would be after making this call. You have to know that today is the first day of the Lunar New Year, a day when all the people in the country are reunited at home.
"Call her quickly!" Huang Weiwei was clearly very unhappy, a different person from the woman who had been tender in my arms just moments ago.
She got dressed and went out. I put on my clothes while thinking about how to open the conversation with Lin Xiaoxi.
Before I could make the call, Huang Weiwei came back in, holding the phone, saying as she walked, "Mom, we're coming down."
Bureau Chief Chen Yazhi was walking with Minister Huang Shan in the complex, and finally, a call came through.
I felt like I had grabbed a straw to save my life and urged her, "Wife, Mom and Dad are downstairs, let's send them home first."
"You don't need to worry, I have it arranged," Huang Weiwei smiled cunningly.
"We can't just let them walk back, can we? Besides, it's not close," I was still making a desperate struggle.
"I told you, you don't need to worry." She tidied her clothes in the mirror, turned back to me, and smiled sweetly, "Do I look good?"
"You look good." I was full of joy, walked over to wrap my arms around her waist, and the two of us admired ourselves in the mirror.
"Truly a talented man and a beautiful woman!" I praised myself.
"Talented man? More like a wolf," she covered her mouth and laughed.
"This is called a golden boy and a jade girl," I corrected her.
"Fine, describe it however you want. Now let's go downstairs." She grabbed her bag, opened the door, and was about to leave.
I dragged her back and begged, "Wife, let's go home."
Huang Weiwei smiled inscrutably, shook off my hand, and went out the door.
I had no choice but to follow. As I left, I looked back at the bedroom, and a wave of sadness surged in my heart.
Bureau Chief Chen Yazhi, arm-in-arm with Minister Huang, stood by my car. Seeing us come out, she blamed us, "What were you two doing? You didn't come out for ages."
I stole a glance at Huang Weiwei and found her face flushed, head lowered, saying nothing.
I quickly said, "Mom, we were just discussing the wedding banquet."
Chen Yazhi said "Oh," and turned to look at Huang Weiwei, her eyes full of suspicion.
"Finished chatting?" she asked, her eyes still sizing up her daughter.
Huang Weiwei felt uncomfortable under her mother's gaze, turned away, and said, "Mom, why are you staring at me like that?"
"You're my daughter, can't I look at you?" Chen Yazhi seemed to have discovered a clue, and a flush of anger spread across her face.
"Look, look. Look clearly, not a single hair was lost," Huang Weiwei shouted, shy and coquettish, leaning against her mother, deliberately avoiding Chen Yazhi's inquiry.
They say a woman's intuition is very powerful. With just that one look, Chen Yazhi clearly saw that something unusual had happened between us.
Minister Huang Shan, standing to the side, grew impatient, hummed softly, and said, "Let's go home."
After they were all seated, just as I was about to start the car, Huang Weiwei suddenly shouted, "Chen Feng, I left my wallet at home, go help me get it."
I got out of the car without hesitation. Just as I entered the elevator, I heard the car roar, and Huang Weiwei drove my car out of my sight.
I sighed! Remembering that when I got out of the car earlier, Huang Weiwei hadn't given me the house keys, I felt a wave of annoyance.
She had been prepared! I didn't even think about it and took out my phone; I had to call Lin Xiaoxi.
I slumped onto the steps, slowly pressed the numbers, and calculated how to start the conversation.
Once the call connected, Lin Xiaoxi asked me, "Where are you?"
I asked her, "Where are you?"
"You don't know where I am?" She seemed very strange and sneered on the phone.
"Are you at Secretary He's house?" I asked, testing the waters.
"No. I left last night."
"Then where are you?" I knew Lin Xiaoxi didn't have a home in Hengyue City, but I didn't know if she had classmates or friends.
"On New Year's Eve, where could I go?" She sighed lightly.
"Tell me, I'll come see you."
"I'm at the Xinlinyin."
"You're staying at a hotel?"
"Besides a hotel, where else could I go?"
"What about He Jiaxiao?"
"Which He Jiaxiao?"
"My cousin."
"I don't know."
I was speechless. My Aunt Wanru was so enthusiastic about keeping people for dinner, how could she let a young girl go out alone on New Year's Eve?
After getting the room number, I hung up the phone and waited patiently for Huang Weiwei to come back and pick me up. ===== CHAPTER 370 =====
