Chapter 494, everyone in the family is there (second watch)
Ye Lao Yezi took a shallow breath, quelling the panic at the bottom of his heart.
"Ayuan’s death has left a void in my heart as a father, and before your grandmother passed away, she asked me to look after you more. Is it wrong for me to do so?" he argued with heartfelt pain.
"Over the years, I’ve let you run wild, even Ye Xin and the others say I’m biased towards you. Why are you so stubborn, insisting that my kindness must have an ulterior motive?"
"Is that so?" Ye Jiuliang took a step forward, his lips curling into a mocking smile.
"Besides guilt, shouldn’t you also feel remorse for what you did to my father?"
"Is your change of attitude towards me really just because grandmother asked you to take more care of me before she died?"
Every word carried a piercing chill, a frigid undertone threading through his speech.
Ye Lao Yezi’s expression paled, a tumultuous wave rising in his heart.
"Has someone spoken to you?"
He grabbed her arm, pleading urgently, "Ayuan was my son, how could I possibly harm him? Don’t believe the slander from others. They want to incite internal strife within the Ye Family, to profit from our discord."
Ye Jiuliang looked down at his ashen face and calmly freed herself from his grasp.
"The truth lies in your heart."
The atmosphere froze, the surroundings silent as a grave.
Aren stood to the side, not daring to speak out of turn.
Ye Lao Yezi watched Ye Jiuliang with a complicated gaze; after a moment, he sighed, as if compromising.
"I will not interfere with your marriage registration with Li Mochan. I just hope you won’t listen to others’ malicious words, think before you act."
"The ones who should think before they act are certain people within the Ye Family," Ye Jiuliang replied, her tone mild.
Ye Lao Yezi was taken aback, unable to continue and shifted the subject, "Won’t you invite me in to sit for a while?"
He glanced towards the courtyard, recognizing one of the vehicles there.
It was Old Li’s car.
"Today isn’t convenient, there are people at home," Ye Jiuliang said bluntly.
Ye Lao Yezi, "..."
People at home? So Old Li counts as her family, but he’s an outsider now?
The little girl, her wings have indeed grown strong.
"If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going back, take care." With that, Ye Jiuliang turned and walked back to Mo Garden.
Ye Lao Yezi watched her retreating back, his eyes darkening.
Aren opened the car door, meekly said, "Old master, please get into the car, it’s windy out here."
Ye Lao Yezi scoffed, settling into the car with a displeased aura radiating from him.
"Old master, don’t take what Miss Jiuliang said to heart too much, she’s just angry with you," Aren comforted while buckling his seatbelt.
Ye Lao Yezi didn’t respond, his head lowered in deep thought.
Jiuliang this girl surely resents him because of Ayuan’s matter. Who could have revealed the past events to her?
It seems he must show some sincerity, otherwise, that girl might grow even more distant from the Ye Family.
...
Ye Jiuliang walked back to the living room and from a distance saw a figure standing under the tree.
She smiled broadly and ran up, crashing heavily into the man’s arms, "How come you’re out here?"
"Waiting for you." Li Mochan lowered his gaze to the person in his arms, his eyes affectionate, "Done talking?"
Ye Jiuliang hummed in response, her eyes filled with a joyful light as she teased, "The certificate is collected, any thoughts, Mr. Li the Fifth?"
"The ring." His response was blunt and abrupt, a non sequitur.
Ye Jiuliang blinked in surprise, the ring?
"This," Li Mochan pulled a ring box from his pocket, "is from Wei Bei. He said it’s the one I ordered earlier."
As the lid opened, a pair of rings lay quietly inside, the little diamonds surrounding them sparkling with dazzling brilliance.
Ye Jiuliang was slightly lost in thought, wishing he hadn’t lost his memory.
"What are you thinking about?" Noticing her distraction, Li Mochan’s iron arm gripped tighter around her waist.
Ye Jiuliang curled her lips into a smile, took the larger-sized ring, and took hold of his hand.
The ring fit snugly onto the ring finger.
Looking at the ring on his hand, she found it particularly pleasing to the eye and looked up at him with a gradually blossoming smile, "Li Mochan, from now on, you truly belong to master."
The words, akin to declaring ownership, made Li Mochan laugh uncontrollably as he took the other ring and slid it onto her finger.
Ye Jiuliang gazed at the ring on her ring finger, raised an eyebrow at him, "Does master look good with the ring?"
"Good-looking." Li Mochan lowered his head and pressed his thin lips to her forehead.
Ye Jiuliang squinted her eyes in amusement, hooked his neck to pull him down, and gently pecked his lips.
"Kissing here is what’s right."
Li Mochan’s deep eyes narrowed, "Are you teasing?"
"If you think it is, then it must be," Ye Jiuliang let go and turned to walk to the living room.
Li Mochan laughed softly and with long strides, stood beside her, his prominent knuckles gripping her hand tightly.
During lunch, there were so many people that one dining table wasn’t enough, so another was hastily brought over.
The two tables put together, forming a circle, created quite a lively atmosphere.
On such a day worth celebrating, alcohol was a must, and even Jiang Yisheng poured himself a small half glass.
"Are you really going to drink?" Ji Mingqian looked at the person beside him, a teasing smile in his eyes.
Annnoyed by the insinuation in his words, Jiang Yisheng retorted, "Looking down on me?"
Oh, he’s getting heated.
Ji Mingqian could hardly contain his chuckles, "I’d like to think highly of you – show me some effort then."
Every time, just one glass and he was out, without exception.
Jiang Yisheng, feeling utterly indignant, turned his head away, ignoring him.
While everyone was busy chatting and not paying attention, Jiang Yisheng grabbed the bottle and filled his glass to the brim.
The only one who witnessed his action, Ji Mingqian was stunned, as he grasped his wrist, "Jiang Yisheng, I was joking. Are you really going to drink it?"
The few bottles of alcohol were brewed by Ajiu himself, and they packed a punch. With one glass down, he likely wouldn’t be able to eat dinner and would probably sleep until the evening.
Jiang Yisheng pulled away his hand, giving him a sidelong glance with an uncommonly chilly tone, "It’s my drink, what does it have to do with you?"
Mystified by the rebuff, Ji Mingqian’s mouth twitched.
"..."
He was just trying to be nice, and this guy had such an attitude.
Fortunately, the others were too engrossed in their conversations and laughter to notice their little interaction and naturally did not see Jiang Yisheng take a full glass of alcohol.
After taking the last sip, a faint blush tinged Jiang Yisheng’s fair cheeks, his eyes grew hazy, his reasoning being overtaken by the approaching intoxication.
With a light touch, the glass next to him was knocked over, rolling in front of Feng Yi.
"Thud—"
The considerable noise turned everyone’s attention toward him, and seeing Jiang Yisheng’s slightly inebriated state, they couldn’t help but stare agape.
"Asheng, you drank?" Knowing her son’s poor tolerance for alcohol, Veya was well aware that Jiang Yisheng was drunk.
Feng Yi picked up the overturned glass from the table, slightly shocked, "Asheng, you didn’t drink a whole glass, did you?"
Doesn’t this guy realize how small his tolerance is?
Doesn’t he have any self-awareness?
