Chapter 10: Muyue: Yeah, You're Rolling in It

~7 min read 1,270 words

Watching Muyue's incredibly fast and clean spinning kick, Might Guy's eyes lit up instantly, feeling that he had encountered the dream technique of his heart—it completely fulfilled all his fantasies about taijutsu.

Simple, fast, powerful, and also very cool.

"I love it! Please be sure to teach me this later!" Might Guy expressed his satisfaction with the Leaf Whirlwind with full vigor.

"I'm glad you like it." Muyue nodded with a smile.

Might Guy's reaction was within his expectations, after all, this taijutsu was something Might Guy would develop himself in the future, and even develop a whole series—Great Whirlwind, Strong Whirlwind, various Leaf Whirlwinds—it would be strange if he didn't like it.

Having obtained Muyue's promise, both Obito and Might Guy were very happy, and even the usually headache-inducing test papers seemed much more pleasing to the eye.

"Watch me go all out—this time I'll definitely get four or more right!" Obito excitedly rubbed his hands together, as if he was about to go into battle.

"I must get three or more right, or else tonight I'll run five hundred laps around Konoha!" Might Guy also steeled himself to learn his dream technique, directly resorting to self-imposed discipline.

He planned to learn this taijutsu and then go challenge Kakashi to a match to see how much his strength had improved.

But the sudden enthusiasm faded quickly; after doing a few problems, Obito understood a truth.

If pushed to the edge, he might be able to unleash a bigger Fireball Technique, or throw five shuriken into the bullseye in one breath, but when it came to test questions, no matter how desperate he was, there was nothing he could do.

He propped his head with one hand and fiddled with his pen in various poses with the other, so agitated that even the green leaves swaying in the wind seemed irritating, as if they were mocking him for being unable to solve the problems.

Obito couldn't help but glance at Might Guy beside him.

Although he and Might Guy had been classmates for over three years and shared Kakashi as a common friend, they had never actually hung out together—their relationship was quite ordinary.

Not strangers, but not friends either; they could only be described as friends of a friend, who happened to be in the same class.

Thinking of Might Guy, his first reaction was "dead last."

Although he himself was also called a dead last, Obito thought he was just unbalanced in his subjects—his ninjutsu and shuriken throwing were decent, only his theory was especially poor.

It was just that the other Uchiha were too talented, excelling in every course, making him, an imperfect Uchiha, look like a dead last.

But Might Guy was different—Might Guy was bad at theory and also bad at ninjutsu, ranking near the bottom in most courses; he was the recognized dead last.

Yet at this moment, Might Guy displayed more patience than him; even though he was already scratching his head in frustration, Might Guy still worked earnestly on the difficult problems.

Obito recalled the bold declaration Might Guy had made once when being mocked.

"I believe that if I keep working hard like this, I will definitely become the strongest taijutsu ninja someday!"

Although Obito wasn't one of those mocking him, when he heard those words, he didn't take them seriously and didn't think Might Guy could become the so-called strongest in taijutsu.

But now his thoughts had changed somewhat; whether he could become the strongest taijutsu ninja was hard to say, but he would probably be much stronger than those who mocked Might Guy.

"Maybe it wouldn't be bad to become friends with him," Obito muttered, so they could team up against that insufferable Kakashi.

Watching Might Guy continuously work on problems, Obito too began to write furiously, racking his brains.

Seeing this, Muyue wore a thoughtful expression.

He hadn't expected that when these two were together, they could produce such a chemical reaction—even the normally restless and fidgety Obito was influenced enough to calm down and do his problems.

In the future, he could use similar methods to motivate Obito to train.

After the two finished, Muyue helped them grade their papers.

Obito got three right, Might Guy got two.

"Sigh, still didn't reach four; I tried my best." Obito slumped over the desk, looking completely drained.

"Add five hundred laps to tonight's run." Might Guy incorporated the penalty for failure into his training plan.

Seeing this, Muyue comforted them: "You're actually only five problems away from passing, and you improved by one problem in just an hour—thinking about it that way, doesn't it feel much better?"

Obito and Might Guy thought about it, and it seemed to make sense—passing and the jutsu were right around the corner.

After comforting them, Muyue cheerfully took out two more test papers.

Obito looked at the brand-new test paper on the table and thought about the three weekends left before the exam; he couldn't help but see darkness before his eyes.

But he had no choice but to pick up his pen and grit his teeth to continue, because if he gave up now, all the previous papers would have been for nothing.

Meanwhile, Shisui, having recovered his chakra, started another round of Fire Release practice; fire dragons kept dancing in the sky, drawing Obito's attention.

"Teacher Hanyu, after we learn your jutsu, will we be considered your disciples like Shisui?" Obito thought for a moment and asked.

"If that's what you think, then so be it." Muyue replied ambiguously.

"Hehe, since we're going to be your disciples sooner or later, why not start teaching us now, teacher?" Obito revealed his true intention.

Muyue cast a skeptical look. Although this was the result of his deliberate setup, your Yan Kingdom map was way too short.

Obito patted his chest and assured, "Teacher Muyue, it's definitely not that I don't want to study anymore. I just think these two things can be done together."

After speaking, Obito tugged at Might Guy beside him and said:

"Right, Guy?"

"Teacher, I think Obito is right." Might Guy also wanted to learn Leaf Whirlwind as soon as possible so he could compete with Kakashi.

"What if you don't pass then?" Muyue didn't agree immediately but asked back.

"Then I'll do whatever you say, teacher. I'll listen to you." Obito was still confident about passing.

"Same here." Might Guy nodded in agreement.

"I see..." Muyue showed a conflicted expression, as if still hesitating about something.

"Teacher Muyue, just trust me. I'll definitely study hard with you and won't let you down." Seeing a chance, Obito quickly continued.

"Me too." Might Guy clenched his fist to assure.

"Alright then. I believe you'll keep your word. After you finish this test paper, I'll teach you the Great Dragon Fire Technique and Leaf Whirlwind." Muyue looked as if he had been persuaded.

"Awesome! I knew you were the best, Teacher Muyue. I definitely won't let you down." Obito said excitedly.

In his heart, he felt today was really his lucky day—he'd improved his theoretical scores and gotten a great teacher for free. What a huge win.

"Teacher Muyue, I will definitely train hard in your taijutsu!" Might Guy said seriously.

He also felt lucky to have met someone willing to become his teacher and teach him taijutsu.

【Do you want to establish a master-disciple relationship with Uchiha Obito?】

【Do you want to establish a master-disciple relationship with Might Guy?】

Looking at the two pop-up windows, Muyue revealed a satisfied smile. Yes, you guys are the ones who scored big time.
