Chapter 141: The Way Out of Poverty

~6 min read 1,175 words

Allen watched that direction nervously, the darkness seeming to press against his eyeballs.

Suddenly a rumbling boom echoed, then silence returned.

Allen quietly gave the Blade Leopard an order, letting it slowly approach that direction while observing the surroundings, hoping to find a suitable form to transform into, to transform another Blade Leopard...

At that moment, a dazzling light suddenly flared on his right, so bright in the darkness it stung; he raised his hand to shield his eyes.

Fang barked, trying to flee; it shook Allen off its back in one motion, but was blocked by a patch of withered bushes, barking even louder.

Allen's Levitation Charm was still in effect, so he did not fall.

His heart surged with wild joy; he had found the goal of this journey—the Weasley family's flying car.

He quickly pulled Fang back; Fang was no longer as terrified as before.

They hurried toward the light, constantly tripping over branches along the way.

A moment later, they reached a clearing.

The Weasley family's flying car stood in the center of a ring of trees, its roof covered with a dense tangle of ice spikes; no one was inside, and its headlights emitted a blinding light.

As Allen walked toward it with his mouth wide open, it slowly backed away, looking very much like a wary teal-green great dog...

"It's me! Allen Finis!" Allen suddenly shouted at the car; he didn't know why he did it, "We met at the Weasleys' during the summer!"

The teal-green car stopped backing up after hearing "Weasley."

Allen was overjoyed; he wanted to continue building rapport with the flying car, but suddenly he was stuck. In his current state, even Mr. Weasley himself probably wouldn't recognize him; how could a car recognize him?

Allen fell into worry.

The car's wings were torn and covered in mud; clearly, it had developed the habit of moving alone through the forest.

Fang seemed completely uninterested in it, staying inches away from Allen's side.

Allen could feel it trembling.

Allen's breathing slowly calmed; he sheathed his wand back into his robes.

"I am Ron Weasley and Harry Potter's friend; I am their classmate at Hogwarts!" Allen continued to approach the flying car.

The flying car seemed to react to both names; Allen clearly felt it hesitating.

Allen continued to close the distance with the flying car, but the car still didn't seem to trust him much; after all, his furry appearance today was too strange.

The flying car continued to keep its distance from Allen, slowly backing away...

Suddenly, an unexpected change occurred; the car's rear right wheel suddenly sank into a snow pit, and Allen could feel its engine roar instantly grow louder...

Allen was about to go up and help; immediately, another unexpected change occurred—a huge spider suddenly crawled out of that snow pit, attacking the flying car; Allen quickly drew his wand...

The spider's appearance made the flying car's roaring even louder; it suddenly broke free from the snow pit, then, disregarding Allen's attempt to stop it, sped away into the night of the Forbidden Forest...

Watching the flying car's lights grow farther and gradually vanish into the night of the Forbidden Forest, Allen stopped worrying; at this moment, the spider had already switched its target to Allen, seemingly plunged into a rage because someone had disturbed its sleep...

Just as Allen was considering whether to use the Petrification Spell or command the Blade Leopard to go up and knock some sense into it, a familiar sound of something tearing through the air came...

Allen saw only a silver-white arrow slice through the night sky, driving hard into the huge spider; then the spider lay motionless, dead, green blood flowing everywhere, very conspicuous in the snow.

Allen was stunned; he never expected this spider to be killed directly...

And a familiar figure appeared in Allen's line of sight—his upper body was a handsome man with strikingly blue eyes and shining platinum-blond hair,

his lower body was a silver torso and a silver horse's tail; his upper body remained bare, and the harsh winter cold seemed to have no effect on him.

It was Firenze, the centaur Allen had seen twice.

He now held a bow in one hand, while the other hand held a silver-white arrow loosely nocked on the bow, gazing at Allen.

Allen also noticed his gaze kept flicking toward the Blade Leopard.

"Are you Hagrid's friend? I saw Hagrid's dog with you!" Firenze spoke first.

"It's me! Allen Finis! Hagrid's assistant, a Hogwarts student!" Allen waved excitedly at Firenze.

"Allen Finis?" Firenze murmur solemnly repeated the name; he relaxed somewhat and lowered the bow, "You are truly hard to recognize; I've seen you three times, and each time you are different..."

Allen also lowered his wand and, somewhat awkwardly, changed the subject, "Long time no see! Are you well?"

"Same as always," Firenze stepped forward and gazed at Allen, "Truly strange; the stars have never told me your fate..."

Allen felt him glancing at the twin ponytails on his head...

Allen wasn't very fond of his mystical ramblings; suddenly he thought of a question. Pointing at the spider corpse on the ground, he asked, "Why did you kill this spider directly? Didn't Hagrid say to protect the magical creatures in the Forbidden Forest?"

Firenze gazed at Allen with blue eyes and said, "Centaurs are not a race that enjoys killing. The stars have told us the result of not controlling these spiders, so every year at this time in winter we come to clear the spiders; this has almost become our tradition..."

Allen was stunned by the information in Firenze's words. "Regular clearing? Why?"

"These spiders reproduce too quickly and are carnivores; once their numbers grow, there aren't enough animals in the entire Forbidden Forest for them to eat." Firenze explained softly.

Allen instantly understood Firenze's meaning; it seemed to be to maintain the ecological balance of the Forbidden Forest.

"Then why clear them in winter?" Allen continued to ask.

Firenze chuckled softly and explained, "Because only in winter, when they hibernate, are they easy to deal with; at other times, they move in groups and are quite hard to handle."

Then he walked to the snow pit, stomped hard several times with his hooves beside the pit, and two furious large spiders crawled out again from the pit; prepared as he was, Firenze killed them easily.

"There aren't too many hibernating spiders in this hole!" Firenze said to Allen.

Meanwhile, Allen squatted down, carefully observing the appearance of the large spider.

"Are these spiders common in the Forbidden Forest?" Allen suddenly asked.

"Very common; every winter we have to clear away hundreds!" Firenze answered quickly.

"Then how do you handle the corpses?"

"Let them nourish the land that nurtured them!"

"Then are these spiders magical creatures too?" Allen asked eagerly.

Firenze glanced at Allen and said softly, "Yes."

Allen's eyes turned into the shape of a Jin Jin Jialong...
