Chapter 31: Pillar of Fire Rising to the Sky
Because they had nearly come to blows earlier, the atmosphere between Barricade and Onslaught suddenly became awkward.
Onslaught and Barricade used the cover of night to quietly approach Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, waiting patiently five kilometers outside the military perimeter for remote communication from Bonecrusher.
Sun Cheng, however, was not with them.
Because he was tasked with destroying the base's external communication equipment at the first opportunity, he had gone ahead through the abandoned tunnel where Onslaught had previously been lurking, quietly infiltrated the base, and in a barracks closest to the communication station, transformed back into his tape recorder form to patiently wait for the signal to attack.
More than twenty minutes later, the 【Spy Template】 flickered, and Sun Cheng, having finally received the attack signal, immediately jumped out of the barracks and rushed rapidly toward the communication equipment station.
Almost the moment he jumped out, Sun Cheng subconsciously glanced into the distance and immediately saw a violent explosion occur.
He couldn't help but stop his steps to look; he saw a bright light rise from the distance, but in an instant, it was blasted into the military camp, instantly destroying a C-17 transport plane that hadn't entered the hangar, and the sounds of explosions rang out one after another.
"... These guys..."
Sun Cheng was somewhat annoyed; he had clearly instructed them repeatedly to wait until he had completely cut off the communication equipment before launching a full-scale attack on the base, but he hadn't expected them to ignore his arrangements entirely.
Angry as he was, he knew that war was no child's play.
He quickened his pace a bit more and soon rushed to the front of the communication equipment station. Seeing two United States soldiers standing guard in front of the door, Sun Cheng moved both hands, aimed two Poison Darts at the two soldiers who were on alert, and fired, completing the kills instantly.
The door to the communication equipment station was locked, but that couldn't stump him.
His finger transformed into a steel rod and inserted into the lock; the next moment, after opening the door lock, he kicked the door open, stormed into the room filled with communication equipment, and began to destroy everything wantonly.
Only after confirming it could not be repaired did he leave and run toward the aircraft hangars.
"Enemy attack..."
"Communication equipment... all communication equipment is down..."
"Oh, God..."
"Damn it, we're under attack!"
"... Support, we need support here!"
The shrill cries echoed incessantly throughout the base, and Sun Cheng released more than a dozen sets of Insect Scouts in succession so that he could firmly grasp the situation inside the base.
Soon, sets of battle reports were transmitted into his 【Spy Template】.
At the front of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Onslaught had now transformed into his humanoid form; standing seven or eight meters tall with a burly physique, he held a large gun and was steadily pushing into the base without haste.
The large gun in his hand flashed with blinding blue light from time to time as he fired at various locations, and every time the sound of an explosion rang out, at least one fighter jet was completely destroyed.
Clearly, the plane explosion Sun Cheng had seen earlier was Onslaught's handiwork.
Compared to the steadily advancing Onslaught, Barricade's combat style was completely different.
When an Insect Scout released by Sun Cheng captured his figure, this guy hadn't even transformed, instead speeding directly into the base in his police car form.
The bullets fired by the United States military hit his car; although sparks could be seen from time to time, they caused absolutely no damage.
Soon after rushing into the group of United States aircraft that hadn't yet managed to take off, he braved the dense gunfire to transform back into his humanoid form, then viciously swung the spiked weapon in his hand; with one swing, an F-15 was smashed into two halves, and with another swing, another cockpit was pulverized, the flying debris even damaging a ground service vehicle when it hit the ground.
"Whew..."
A Stinger Anti-aircraft missile was fired from not far away, hitting Barricade accurately; the massive impact force made him stagger back a few steps.
However, that was the only effect it had.
Clearly, this type of anti-aircraft missile, which was not aimed at armored targets, could not penetrate the alloy armor of Barricade's body at all.
But even so, the dense sounds of gunfire and explosions were all reminding Sun Cheng that the United States soldiers stationed here had not been scared off; they were still organizing forces to counterattack.
"I have to speed up..."
Reminding himself in his heart, Sun Cheng also quickened his pace and hurried toward the hangar in his memory.
Although Decepticons were powerful Mechanical Life forms, they were not completely invincible.
Not only could nuclear weapons manufactured by humans kill high-level Decepticons, but even some heavy weapons equipped by human armies, such as High-Explosive Bombs, tank Depleted Uranium Armor-Piercing Shells, some Anti-ship missiles, Anti-aircraft missiles, etc., all had significant lethality against Decepticons.
This was one of the reasons why they were in such a hurry to destroy human air power at the beginning of the operation.
Passing by an ammunition depot, Sun Cheng rushed in quickly, killed several United States soldiers by throwing several Poison Darts containing radioactive elements, then found some C4 Bombs equipped by the United States military, immediately set them up, and scattered them throughout the ammunition depot.
Then he ran out as if fleeing; he had just broken into a hangar when he heard a thunderous roar from not far behind him, "Boom...".
As this ammunition depot, which stored numerous weapons and shells, suddenly exploded, a pillar of fire rose into the sky, instantly illuminating the entire base.
"Oh no..."
The explosive power of the ammunition depot exceeded Sun Cheng's imagination; he was, after all, inexperienced.
At first, Sun Cheng had only followed the experience he had seen in movies, thinking that blowing up the ammunition depot would waste a portion of the garrison's combat power.
However, this scene, which was like a nuclear explosion, could probably be seen vaguely even from dozens of kilometers away; it was not hard to imagine that the United States military's reinforcements would arrive faster and in greater numbers than expected, so their Task had to be accelerated.
Hurriedly cooperating to destroy the electronic equipment of more than a dozen planes in the hangar, just as he exited a hangar and prepared to continue the destruction, a violent explosion suddenly rang out at his new target; Sun Cheng looked up and realized it was Onslaught, this Decepticon Warrior whose combat power was simply off the charts, who had killed his way in from the main gate of the base, destroying almost a small half of the base's resistance forces.
"Lord Onslaught..."
Sun Cheng hurriedly ran toward him and was picked up and placed on his shoulder.
"We must speed up our actions; the explosion just now was too conspicuous!"
"Understood, leave the containment here to me!"
Turning back to blast an F-15 fighter jet that had already driven out of the hangar and was preparing for an emergency takeoff, Onslaught said in a buzzing voice, while simultaneously sending a communication to Barricade not far away.
After the communication was sent, Barricade immediately transformed back into his police car form and drove rapidly to the front of the two.
"Get in..."
The figure projected by Barricade urged Sun Cheng impatiently; he then nodded to Onslaught, jumped down from his shoulder, and sat in the passenger seat.
"Vroom vroom..."
Accompanied by bursts of roaring sounds, Barricade immediately carried Sun Cheng and drove rapidly toward the missile storage depot they had already detected.
