Chapter 32: Crushing Dry Weeds and Smashing Rotten Wood

~8 min read 1,465 words

"Stop..."

"Damn it, this police car is the attacker..."

"RPG... we need an RPG..."

Sun Cheng sat inside the police car that Barricade had transformed into, feeling a chill run through his entire body.

Barricade carried him along at high speed with no intention of swerving, and any United States soldiers who dared to block his path were either crushed or sent flying by his impact.

The windshield in front of him was already stained red with blood.

This guy with the terrible personality seemed to enjoy the thrill of slaughtering the weak; Sun Cheng even saw Barricade extend two terrifying spikes outward from the position of his headlights. He sped forward at an incredible velocity, and any United States soldiers who failed to dodge in time and were struck by the two extended spikes would have their legs instantly pierced and severed, only to be sent flying high into the air before crashing heavily to the ground!

Simply cruel!

After traveling to this world, although he had been stained with blood for various reasons, he was still very unaccustomed to it in his heart.

Now, comparing the two, Barricade's cruel, perverted behavior made Sun Cheng feel not only chilled but also significantly more wary.

Seeing that the Missile storage depot had already appeared in his field of vision, with many soldiers who had retreated there and simple defensive positions set up nearby, Barricade let out a roar: "Quick battle, quick decision..."

While traveling at high speed, he suddenly transformed back into his human form, held that weapon full of spikes, and charged forward valiantly.

"Swish..."

Sun Cheng spun a few times in mid-air before landing on the ground, and as soon as he landed, he instinctively jumped to the side.

The next moment, a violent explosion and shockwave made his body fly uncontrollably.

It turned out that some United States soldier had spotted him and actually fired a shot at him with a Grenade launcher.

If the Spy Template hadn't captured the locking trajectory of the Grenade, if this shot had truly hit him, he would have lost half his life even if he didn't die; after all, he was not an Advanced Warrior like Barricade or Brawl.

"Whoosh..."

Flinging out a Poison Dart that struck a Machine Gunner who was continuously firing at him, Sun Cheng took the opportunity to roll on the ground and hide in the shadows.

A frontal battle like this was no longer something he could participate in.

Frenzy was not a combat unit; after being resurrected, the only offensive means equipped on his body were a few dozen Poison Darts containing radioactive elements. Although they could kill a human in a short time if they hit, the problem was that there were too few Poison Darts and their lethality was just so-so.

Therefore, the only thing he could do now was to hide and wait for Barricade to clear out the nearby resistance forces.

Clearly, although Barricade's combat power was not as great as Brawl's, he was still an existence capable of easily destroying a human army.

"Heavy weapons, we need heavy weapons..."

"What kind of monster is this? Even Grenades can't cause it any damage..."

"Call for support, quick... quick... its target is the Nuclear Warhead..."

Davis-Monthan Air Force Base was once the site where the United States and the Soviet Union agreed to destroy B-52 Bombers, and it was from that time on that this famous aircraft graveyard also took on the Task of storing aerial bombs, Missiles, and even Nuclear Warheads.

Major Aldous Carrell was the person in charge assigned by the military to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base to protect the Nuclear Warheads.

This forty-six-year-old veteran had experienced two Gulf Wars, and because he had lost an ear due to a lack of vigilance during the war, Carrell had since developed a cautious nature; any slight disturbance would cause his nerves to tighten.

Tonight was just like that; in fact, when an explosion suddenly erupted inside the Base, he, who had already been able to fall asleep, woke up at the first moment and took the initiative to take over the command of the Missile storage depot and the nearby defenses.

"Damn it, Sas, can't the communication equipment be repaired?"

Carrell roared at his signalman in frustration, "Support, we need support! Those monsters' target is our Nuclear Warhead..."

The night-vision binoculars had already been thrown to the side by him; the valiantly charging Barricade had appeared, and it had taken him less than two minutes to break through most of the defensive lines he had set up, and he was now sprinting toward the last line of defense he could organize.

At such a short distance, Carrell could clearly see with his naked eye that his men were desperately trying to complete that impossible Task with their lives; they had already used every heavy weapon they could find.

Machine Guns could not penetrate the invader's armor, and even Grenades and RPGs were useless. They could only watch helplessly as that invulnerable monster cruelly brandished a spike-shaped weapon, smashing one fresh life after another into pieces; the splattered limbs even brought a hint of a bloody smell to the surrounding air.

The only things Carrell had on hand that could cause damage to the target were the four M2A3 Infantry Fighting Vehicles that were originally stationed nearby, but their role was limited to only two rounds of firing.

When several TOW anti-tank Missiles hit the monster and caused cracks to appear on its armor, the monster, having reacted, immediately destroyed the four Infantry Fighting Vehicles, leaving them with no means to hurt it anymore.

"Major, the communication terminal has been destroyed; we have no way to contact the outside at all now..."

The signalman answered with a look of despair, because it was a military Base, even the United States military, which was known for its freedom and benefits, could not have communication terminals serving the public installed inside a military Base.

They had dedicated channels, and they did not communicate with the outside via wired or wireless means, but rather by satellite.

But the terrible thing was that the ground communication relay equipment in the Base that connected to the satellite had been destroyed by Sun Cheng at the first moment.

This resulted in Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, despite being located within the United States and having other military Bases within a half-hour flight, losing the means to call for assistance.

"Calm down..."

Carrell tried hard to make his signalman calm down; he grabbed the black soldier by the collar, pulled his head in front of himself, and sternly scolded: "So what if we can't contact the outside? The big explosion just now will definitely make people nearby notice us; our assistance will arrive soon. Don't forget we still have Keyhole; they will conduct a reconnaissance here every twenty minutes... Soldier, the only thing we need to do now is hold on, hold on until the reinforcements arrive..."

Unfortunately, his efforts did not take effect.

Accompanied by a cold light, Carrell, who had failed to react, had a cold, gleaming Poison Dart appear on his forehead; his eyes widened immediately, and his body soon collapsed limply onto the signalman.

"Major..."

"Alert, Major, quick, medic..."

After the medic who rushed over immediately announced the news of Major Carrell's sacrifice, the desperate United States soldiers, seeing no way to hold the Missile storage depot and keep Barricade from approaching, finally had their mental state completely collapse.

"Whoosh..."

As the few soldiers blocking the last line of defense cried out and fled, more and more United States soldiers chose to run away, while Barricade watched the defending soldiers scattering like ants with interest, neither attacking them again nor having any intention of chasing them.

Soon, the defense in front of the Missile storage depot was completely lifted, and after sensing that the surroundings were safe, Sun Cheng also ran out from his hiding place.

He paused when passing by Carrell; after quietly sneaking near the storage depot just now, it was precisely because he saw this United States officer trying to organize forces to defend that he had launched a sneak attack and killed him.

What Sun Cheng did not expect was that the United States soldiers, who were accustomed to fighting easy battles, would actually collapse and flee because of this, which was beyond his expectations.

Looking around, there were no more defending soldiers to obstruct him; Barricade, still feeling somewhat unsatisfied, shook the blood-stained spike weapon in his hand and retracted it back into his body.

Finally, he lowered his head and glanced at Sun Cheng; without needing Barricade's instruction, he immediately understood and walked quickly to the Missile storage depot to crack the door password.
