Chapter 33: Obtaining the Nuclear Warhead
"Snap!"
Although the United States military's missile storage facility employed three layers of security systems, they had no ability to resist Sun Cheng's Spy System; he easily cracked them and opened the doors.
The Warehouse was large enough that even Barricade did not need to revert to his police car form to walk inside.
"We don't have much time, let's split up and search!"
Following behind Barricade into the missile storage facility, Sun Cheng looked at the rows of racks and had no choice but to suggest this.
The missile storage facility inside Davis-Monthan Air Force Base did not only store Nuclear Warheads; some high-explosive aerial bombs that required special storage, as well as infrequently used air-launched cruise missiles and long-range air-to-air missiles, were all stored here.
Barricade nodded and took the lead, walking toward the depths of the Warehouse.
What they needed to find were the AGM-129 series strategic air-launched cruise missiles. This type of strategic air-launched cruise missile was produced by General Dynamics starting in 1987, entered service in 1991, and a total of 478 units were produced before production ceased in 1993; it was one of the few types of missiles in the United States Air Force capable of launching a Nuclear Warhead.
Barricade walked very quickly and soon disappeared from Sun Cheng's field of vision.
He was not in much of a hurry to search; discovering a small room similar to an office not far from the missile storage facility's main door, Sun Cheng thought for a moment and walked toward this office first.
Before he had even reached the entrance of the office, his gaze sharpened.
Just now, the Spy Template had captured a faint sound, extremely similar to the noise humans inadvertently make when swallowing.
"There is someone here..."
He realized in his heart; after all, this was an important missile storage facility, so it was impossible for the Warehouse not to have personnel assigned to be responsible for supervision, inspection, and fire prevention.
Sun Cheng was not like other Decepticons; having transmigrated, he possessed a more cautious personality. To avoid being ambushed or even having this missile storage facility blown up, after keenly sensing that there were people inside the office, he cautiously released his most recent dozen sets of Insect Scouts, directing two sets to fly toward the office, while the others were all dumped into the Warehouse in one go.
These agile little fellows did not disappoint him; after one of the Insect Scouts entered the tightly closed office through a ventilation duct, it quickly relayed the situation inside the room back.
"Two men and one woman, only handguns, three clerical soldiers?"
The Insect Scout noticed that one person in the office was peeking out from the window from time to time; clearly, they already knew that he and Barricade had entered the Warehouse.
Since he had been exposed, and he now grasped the situation inside the office—and most importantly, Sun Cheng discovered that several computers were installed in this office, which meant it was very likely that storage data for all the missiles in the Warehouse was saved inside—he immediately became interested.
At once, Sun Cheng took out several Poison Darts and held them in his hand, pretending he hadn't noticed anything as he wandered around the vicinity for a while before walking toward the office. He first looked into the room through the window, then walked to the main door.
The password-protected door of the office was too childish for him; after easily cracking it and sensing that the people inside were becoming nervous, he suddenly pushed the door open, accelerated, and jumped into the office, not forgetting to shoot the Poison Darts he was holding at the hiding soldiers.
With the Insect Scouts helping him determine the enemy's positions, his strikes were not only ruthless but also clean and efficient, precisely taking out the few United States soldiers.
"So they already knew about the changes outside?"
With a hurried glance, everything in the office fell into Sun Cheng's eyes.
This office was not large; several desks were placed scattered about, each with a computer on it, as well as one specifically used to receive data from the closed-circuit monitors outside the Warehouse.
Several satellite phones were thrown around casually; clearly, after these soldiers observed the changes outside, they had made many attempts to contact the outside world.
Dragging the few corpses and throwing them outside, Sun Cheng leaped onto a chair and opened the computers to search through the data inside.
After a minute or two, having finished flipping through everything, he jumped out with a strange expression on his face. He then opened the other two computers, and after searching through them in turn, he let out a long breath, the blue light in his two pairs of electronic eyes flickering violently.
"Damn, although I had heard before that the United States military's management was chaotic, I didn't expect it to actually be true..."
Not only in the real world, but even in this different world, the United States was the strongest country on Earth, and its powerful military force, which projected power globally, had always been admired by many military fans.
However, behind the shimmering halo, many problems were also highlighted; for instance, when Sun Cheng was in the real world, he would occasionally see news on the internet about the United States military's management being very chaotic.
In the past, Sun Cheng was mostly skeptical, but now he finally understood; it was likely that many of those reports were true.
He simply could not believe that from these few base computers, he had not only found the Nuclear Warhead storage data he wanted but had also unexpectedly seen quite a bit of restricted information.
For example, the accurate parameters for the AGM-129 series strategic air-launched cruise missiles and AGM-86C air-launched cruise missiles, partial maintenance and inspection diagrams for the AGM-65 series air-to-ground cruise missiles, and so on...
Although he was only half a military fan, Sun Cheng knew at least a little bit: data involving Core weapons was managed very strictly, even during the logistics maintenance and storage process.
For instance, in China in the real world, some aircraft ground maintenance procedures were printed into manuals, and the use of every single one had strict real-name registration and management; they were absolutely not allowed to be taken away, let alone made into electronic versions and saved on the computers of some base.
"Good stuff..."
These were indeed good stuff. Although wanting to build them just by relying on these things was pure wishful thinking, if this data were mastered by the United States' opponents, it would be equivalent to stripping the clothes off a large batch of current United States Air Force cruise missiles, making it much easier to target them.
Sun Cheng had already packed and copied all the harvested data and stored it in his Memory Chip. Although it was of little use to him, just looking at the schemes of Starscream and the others, who knows if they might end up in an all-out war with the United States one day? Maybe it would come in handy then.
The unexpected harvest put him in a very good mood. Following the data successively relayed back by the Insect Scouts, Sun Cheng soon found Barricade, who was still searching everywhere. "Lord Barricade, I have found the storage location of the Nuclear Warheads, please follow me..."
The irritable Barricade was clearly already fed up; even he knew that one could not mess around in a missile storage facility, otherwise, one blast would leave even him lying here permanently.
So, upon hearing that Sun Cheng had found the storage location for the nuclear weapons, he immediately changed his expression. "Well done..."
He gave Sun Cheng a rare word of praise, then followed behind him, walking toward a corner of the missile storage facility.
The Americans had opened a secret underground storage compartment in a corner of the missile storage facility, which required five security codes to be entered before the Nuclear Warheads stored underground could be brought up via an elevator.
This point did not stump Sun Cheng; he quickly completed the Task and successfully found six undismantled Nuclear Warheads originally intended for equipping the United States' AGM-86C air-launched cruise missiles.
Sun Cheng was somewhat surprised that he had unexpectedly not found the Nuclear Warheads equipped for the AGM-129 series strategic air-launched cruise missiles, only finding a few with smaller yields.
However, seeing Barricade excitedly step forward and prepare to move and take them away—it seemed he was also very satisfied with these six Small Nuclear Warheads, which had a nuclear yield of only 200,000 tons—he simply stayed quiet and honest.
"Dajun, no need to continue the diversion, come to the missile Warehouse to rendezvous with us at full speed..."
Barricade was clearly a bit greedy; he could take at most two, but seeing there were six in total, he immediately had the intention of taking them all.
"Understood..."
Accompanied by the sound of approaching explosions, Dajun soon tore open the Warehouse door and, having reverted to his super-heavy truck form, charged into the Warehouse.
"Take them all..." After Barricade finished speaking, he picked up a Nuclear Warhead and walked to his front.
Dajun's chassis underwent a series of transformations, revealing enough storage space to place the Nuclear Warheads.
Sun Cheng could not move such big guys, so he had to stand honestly on the side and watch him move them back and forth.
After finishing, Barricade left two of them behind, held one, and reverted to his police car form.
Sun Cheng originally wanted to leave with him, but after a glance, he discovered there was no space left in the police car for him to ride in, so he had to enter Dajun's cockpit.
Accompanied by the rumbling roar of the engine, the looting Task was completed, waiting only for the return trip!
