Chapter 865: Temporary Curtain Call

~8 min read 1,446 words

The whistling missiles were getting closer and closer to the ground.

Blitzwing looked up and glanced at the sky, a cold sneer appearing on his somewhat gloomy face.

"Missiles again; Earthlings only have these methods!"

He looked around and ordered in a cold voice: "Prepare to dodge this wave of missiles, contact Starscream, and have him send another batch of protoform warriors to provide support!"

Above the sky, the Decepticon flight squad members who had originally been entangled with the U. S. military aircraft had now basically stopped their entanglement with the U. S. fighters.

The vast majority of them were carrying various injuries, and three Advanced Warriors had even been killed by the U. S. military aircraft.

However, the U. S. military had also paid a heavy price for this.

More than three hundred various aircraft had been shot down; if the losses from the previous probing wave were added in, the loss of nearly four hundred aircraft meant that even with the U. S. military's vast resources, they had suffered a massive blow this time.

But Blitzwing was not satisfied with this result.

The number of flight squad members under his command was simply too small; there were only seven or eight who had joined the vanguard and arrived in the Solar System with him, and in the previous battle, they had almost exhausted the energy within their Sparks to the red warning line to achieve this result.

Although there were still a few Elite Warrior-level members left in the flight squad, they were all injured, and unless they could immediately obtain an energy supply, they would have no ability to continue taking off and fighting in the short term.

Three Advanced Warriors of the flight squad had died in battle, and the remaining Decepticons had been pushed to this state by humans he looked down upon; as arrogant as Blitzwing was, how could he possibly accept this result?

The order requesting reinforcements was quickly transmitted by a Decepticon communications soldier in an encrypted format toward the Moon.

There was specialized equipment at the Moon Base for Decepticon communication and liaison, and he believed it would not be long before they captured the communication, decrypted it, and dispatched reinforcements to Earth.

However, things are unpredictable!

On the other side, the U. S. military had paid an extremely painful price to gain air superiority, so how could they possibly give up on pressing their advantage?

Although they were temporarily not planning to send out more ground troops—after all, just a short while ago, a full reinforced mechanized infantry regiment, nearly four thousand Tombstone troops, had been almost completely annihilated by thirty-some Decepticons in less than an hour.

Combined with the encounter of a mechanized infantry brigade in Canada earlier, the Pentagon finally clearly realized once again the terrifying destructive power of Decepticons when they formed a scale.

Therefore, they became more cautious and would not easily send ground troops into the fray until the air force confirmed that the majority of the invading Decepticons had been eliminated.

But as for the air force, the U. S. military aircraft that had gained air superiority began to frantically sweep the remaining Decepticons on the ground.

Missile after missile was poured down toward the ground as if they were free.

Whenever radar detected a possible Decepticon unit on the ground, the U. S. military aircraft formation, which shared data-link information, would split off several different aircraft and simultaneously fire at least a dozen missiles to bomb the target's location.

However, the Decepticons were not mindless machines either.

Having experienced the missile carpet-bombing not long ago, the Decepticons who were still alive were all elites, even if they were all more or less carrying injuries.

The flight squad had stopped their close-quarters dogfighting with the U. S. military aircraft and helplessly abandoned the sky shortly after they had almost completely annihilated the main force of Tombstone and began slaughtering the routed Tombstone soldiers.

After losing air superiority, these Decepticons immediately stopped the slaughter of the remaining few routed Tombstone soldiers and chose to use the complex terrain of the river valley near Sewei'er to begin hiding.

Therefore, the results achieved by the U. S. military aircraft after gaining air superiority were not as great as imagined.

Except for a very small number of Decepticons who were severely injured or killed by U. S. military aircraft, the vast majority of the invading Decepticons had hidden themselves with the help of the complex terrain in the River Valley.

They already knew the order from their Commander—Blitzwing, and they also believed that reinforcements would arrive here soon, so they were willing to endure a temporary failure and wait for the counterattack and slaughter once the reinforcements arrived.

On the battlefield, it seemed that a stalemate had been reached for the moment.

Except for the increasingly sparse explosions caused by missiles fired by U. S. military aircraft hitting somewhere in the river valley, the River Valley, which had been bustling for nearly a day, finally seemed to have quieted down.

However, at this very moment, urgent prompts sounded one after another within the U. S. military's communication system.

"... Warning... Warning, an attack from an unknown source has been detected over your area; after preliminary judgment, it is a missile of an unknown model, prepare to evacuate immediately..."

"Repeat, an attack from an unknown source has been detected over your area; after preliminary judgment, it is a missile of an unknown model, prepare to evacuate immediately..."

In the River Valley at this time, some Tombstone soldiers who had been routed by the Decepticons and were using the complex terrain here—either hiding behind some hidden rocks in the river valley or hiding in some forests unique to the extreme north—gradually began to look up in vigilance and discovered 'meteors' falling from the high altitude of the northwestern sky.

"Is that another batch of invading aliens?" a Tombstone soldier whispered in despair.

However, some experienced Tombstone soldiers who were former mercenaries had their expressions change drastically: "Damn it, it's missiles! Those might be our Tomahawks!"

The Tomahawk Cruise Missile was the multi-purpose cruise missile most equipped within the U. S. military.

Because of this, many U. S. soldiers knew the power of this star cruise missile of their own.

Although these routed Tombstone soldiers had luckily escaped the pursuit of the Decepticons, if their luck was not good enough and a Tomahawk Cruise Missile exploded nearby, it would very likely cost them their lives.

Amidst curses, the Tombstone soldiers who sensed that something was wrong could only constantly assess the possible impact points of the missiles and then either look for a safer place to hide or flee for their lives in a further direction.

And those Decepticons in the River Valley were also doing much the same thing as the routed Tombstone soldiers.

It was just that because of their confidence in their own powerful bodies, they did not choose to flee, but rather, based on their previous experience in dealing with Tomahawk Cruise Missiles, they moved to a safer place after calculating the possible impact locations of this batch of missiles.

Amidst despair and cursing, missile after missile launched from outer space finally landed on the earth.

With the fall of the first missile, the explosion of the warhead quickly caused the chemical agents inside to react violently with the air.

Consequently, the temperature within a range of nearly eight hundred meters around the missile explosion dropped rapidly, and the frozen ground, which had been turned into a muddy mess by the successive missiles and artillery fire, was once again covered by large patches of frost at a speed visible to the naked eye; even the sky above was filled with snowflakes and ice crystals because the water molecules in the air were condensed by the low temperature.

"So... so cold..."

A few unlucky Tombstone soldiers, because they were within the blast radius of the Temperature Difference Bomb and did not have time to escape, quickly had a layer of frost condense on their hair, cheeks, military uniforms, gloves, and the weapons they were tightly gripping, and they soon lost all signs of life.

Some of the unlucky Decepticons in the River Valley did not fare much better than them.

Accompanied by the continuous explosions of one Temperature Difference Bomb after another, soon one unlucky Decepticon after another had frost and even ice blocks rapidly condensing on their seemingly indestructible bodies.

A sudden conflict seemed to be quickly frozen along with the explosions of these Temperature Difference Bombs.

Sewei'er, this extreme northern river valley located within the Arctic Circle and covered in white snow almost all year round, became quiet once again after passing its busiest day in history.
