While waiting, the Autobots soon sensed that the ionized particles drifting in the air had become unusually active.
"Leader, over forty kilometers to the northeast, a massive energy source is being activated within New Iacon!"
Ratchet reached out and held his arm high; a thin, long, antenna-like joint quickly extended, rotated in the sky for a moment, and then pointed toward the northeast.
"There aren't many energy sources in New Iacon that match this scale!"
Ironhide reminded him in a deep voice.
Upon hearing this reminder, Optimus Prime's expression changed drastically.
"Energy Pillars!"
Optimus Prime had once made a deal with Frenzy, trading energy from the Matrix of Leadership for some Energy Pillars.
Energy Pillars are highly solidified pure energy and are one of the black technologies left behind from the Cybertronian civilization era.
Each one is enough to support a hundred-man squad in battle for a very long time, so they all belong to the category of super-large-scale energy sources.
"Someone in New Iacon has activated the Energy Pillars, and it's not just one or two..."
Optimus Prime and the others felt a tightening in their chests; highly solidified Energy Pillars are very safe, although they can be reversed and used as weapons through certain means.
But even the craziest Decepticon would not do something so extravagant.
Moreover, compared to using them as weapons, applying them as energy sources for large or super-large weapons and equipment is the most rational use for them.
At least Optimus Prime knew of one special usage that only his mentor, Sentinel Prime, had mastered.
Using Energy Pillars as a power source and utilizing a special piece of equipment—a space bridge—one could connect to a distant place millions of miles away, deploying troops behind enemy lines without anyone noticing.
During the Cybertronian Civil War, the Autobots once used this technology to fiercely suppress the Decepticon Legion for a period of time.
It wasn't until Shockwave and a group of Decepticon Legion scientists mastered its basic operating principles that they began building a large number of forward fortresses, and upon occupying an area, they would immediately conduct a comprehensive sweep of the region, destroying all the space bridges the Autobots had secretly built and hidden behind Decepticon lines.
After that, the Autobots could never repeat their past victories.
And now, this is Earth.
"I hope it is not as I suspect..."
Suppressing the unease in his heart, Optimus Prime immediately ordered in a deep voice: "All Autobots, follow me into New Iacon immediately."
"What should we do if we encounter Autobots blocking our path?"
Ironhide asked with a frown.
Optimus Prime hesitated for a moment before speaking: "For those who actively attack us, use Electromagnetic Anesthetic Bombs to temporarily paralyze their mobility, or knock them unconscious directly."
Sideswipe frowned, wanting to say something, but in the end, he said nothing.
After a brief moment of chaos, all the Autobots leaped down from the cliff over a hundred meters high, continuously searching for leverage points along the steep rock wall.
Soon, the group of Autobots arrived in the canyon, and they had only been moving for a short while when they encountered a patrol of Autobots.
"Leader..."
The leading Autobot looked at Optimus Prime and the others in surprise.
Ironhide knew this entire squad of Autobots, as he had served as the Commander of New Iacon for a period of time.
He took the initiative to step forward and instructed the leader of the patrol squad: "Windcharger, you continue your patrol; we have matters to discuss with Leader Sentinel Prime!"
Windcharger could see that the visitors were not coming with good intentions, but after his gaze lingered on Optimus Prime, the Autobot leader, for a moment, he nodded to signal them to pass.
"Do you need us to notify His Majesty?" he asked.
"His Majesty?"
Sideswipe snorted coldly, "How long have we been gone, and they aren't even hiding it anymore!"
Optimus Prime also frowned; the identity of 'King' was something his mentor had abandoned at the very beginning of founding the Autobots.
Although within the Autobots, a group of Royalists converted from former Cybertronian Nobles had always been waving that banner, wanting to push Sentinel Prime to claim the throne again.
Yet, Sentinel Prime not only refused but had also disciplined many of the Royalists.
Later, as concepts like equality and democracy blossomed and bore fruit within the Autobots, anyone who dared to call for an emperor now was not just talking about restoration; it was fundamentally turning back the clock of history.
Windcharger lowered his head, pretending he hadn't heard; he was a relatively clever Autobot who didn't want to offend either side.
So he simply waved his hand, clearing a path for them and letting Optimus Prime and the others pass.
Before long, they encountered several more patrol squads, and because of the presence of Optimus Prime, Ironhide, and the others, the subsequent patrols mostly followed Windcharger's lead and chose to let them pass.
But as they drew closer and closer to New Iacon, the Autobots who blocked their continued advance finally appeared.
"Wait!"
Mirage blocked Optimus Prime and the others, and when they saw his appearance, Ironhide and the others all frowned.
Sideswipe didn't even say a word and charged straight at him.
"Sideswipe, you dare attack me? Are you trying to rebel?"
Mirage shouted sternly, while simultaneously blocking the Triangular Blade strike from Sideswipe.
"End the fight quickly!"
Ironhide summoned his weapon and quickly surrounded Mirage as well.
Mirage, the Autobot, was a troublesome fellow.
Born a Cybertronian Noble, he had once been an excellent assassin and hunter.
He was also a Royalist loyal to Sentinel Prime and had even announced his surrender to the Decepticons during a battle in the civil war because he was outnumbered.
Later, because of his noble status, Sentinel Prime redeemed him through a prisoner exchange, but this guy became unpopular within the Autobots due to his past experience of surrendering to the Decepticons.
Because of this, the guy seemed to let himself go, gradually becoming detestable.
He had abandoned teammates in battle and had gone missing without reason during a Task.
If it weren't for someone in the Autobot Council always protecting him, the complaints and investigations against him would have resulted in more than just forced expulsion.
And this guy clearly harbored resentment toward Optimus Prime, who had once expelled him, so he shouted loudly on the communication channel: "Optimus Prime is illegally trespassing into New Iacon without permission! All soldiers, fire on him!"
With this shout, New Iacon, which had been pretending to be quiet, immediately became lively.
In a corner to the northwest of New Iacon, inside a military camp that Sentinel Prime had personally ordered to be newly established not long ago.
Watching the alloy gate, which began to bloom with blue light as he operated it, Wheeljack felt some yearning and interest in Space Bridge technology, but felt even more worry and fear.
He knew very well where the other end of this portal was currently located.
As one Energy Pillar after another injected what seemed to be an endless stream of energy into the portal.
Gradually, a layer of transparent ripples, like a bubble, formed on the previously empty gate.
The moment he saw it, Wheeljack helplessly closed his eyes.
He knew!
War was coming!
