Chapter 59: Bloodlight Disaster
Chen Ying stuffs the talisman paper casually into her pocket, then turns and melts into the night.
She hurries, and after meeting her colleague, rushes at full speed to the scene of the incident.
…
By Jiangnan's side, a black sedan sits quietly.
The car window slowly rolls down, revealing Murong Wan's delicate face.
"Mr. Jiang, let's go back."
Her voice is gentle, breaking the night's silence.
Jiangnan does not hesitate, opens the rear door and steps inside.
A faint, lingering fragrance fills the car; it is Murong Wan's distinctive scent.
"Mr. Jiang, why did you just now give that female Security Officer a talisman?"
Murong Wan starts the engine, driving while asking.
"She has a blood aura; tonight there may be a bloodlight disaster."
Jiangnan's voice is calm, as if stating a fact.
Murong Wan's hand on the steering wheel tightens slightly.
"You can even see that?"
Her tone carries a hint of surprise.
"I have a slight understanding of physiognomy."
Jiangnan replies lightly.
Murong Wan looks at Jiangnan through the rearview mirror.
He maintains a normal expression, his gaze deep and inscrutable.
Meanwhile, on the other side.
Chen Ying and her colleagues have already arrived at Renmin Street Gongjian Bank.
The scene is a mess; the bank's main door has been blown open with a huge hole, glass shards scattered everywhere.
The air is filled with the acrid smell of gunpowder, sharp and unpleasant.
Several Security Officers are surveying the site, collecting evidence.
Chen Ying looks around, her brows tightly knit.
"Report: no suspicious personnel found."
A Security Officer runs over, reporting to the team leader, the chief Security Officer.
"Continue the search; leave no corner unchecked."
Chen Ying receives the order and immediately throws herself into action.
At that moment, a rapid series of footsteps comes from inside the bank.
"Bad news! The vault has been blown open; all the gold bars stored inside are gone!"
A Security Officer rushes out, shouting loudly.
Chen Ying's complexion changes, and she dashes into the bank at once.
She reaches the vault entrance and sees the heavy metal door twisted and deformed from the blast.
Looks like the loss is substantial!
Chen Ying suppresses her inner fury and says calmly.
She crouches, carefully inspecting the blown-open vault door.
She suddenly notices the cut is neat, as if made by some special tool.
"This gang of robbers isn't simple."
She thinks to herself.
At that moment, out of the corner of her eye she spots a black fragment on the ground.
She picks it up and examines it closely.
The fragment's material is special, unlike ordinary metal.
"What is this?"
She feels puzzled.
Suddenly, a shrill alarm sounds.
"There's a situation!"
A Security Officer shouts.
Chen Ying immediately stands and rushes out of the bank.
Outside the bank, several Black-clothed Men are fleeing in panic.
They carry a few bulging sacks, each filled with gold bars.
"Stop! Don't run!"
Chen Ying shouts loudly and sprints after them.
The Security Officers also give chase.
For a moment, gunfire, shouts, and alarms intertwine, shattering the night's quiet.
Chen Ying, agile, quickly catches up to a Black-clothed Man.
She leaps and kicks the Black-clothed Man to the ground.
The Black-clothed Man winces in pain, dropping his sack, and the gold bars scatter across the ground.
Chen Ying is about to move forward to subdue the Black-clothed Man when, suddenly, another Black-clothed Man rushes out from the side.
In his hand he held a gun, its black, gaping muzzle aimed at Chen Ying.
"Be careful!"
A Security Officer shouted.
Chen Ying was startled, and instinctively tried to dodge.
But it was already too late.
"Bang!"
A gunshot rang, and the bullet struck Chen Ying's chest.
Her body shuddered and she fell backward.
"Chen Ying!"
The Security Officers shouted in alarm.
They opened fire in return, killing the Black-clothed Men.
"Am I… going to die?"
A thought flashed through her mind. She suddenly remembered the talisman Jiangnan had given her.
She instinctively reached for her pocket,
"Could it be… he really predicted it?"
Chen Ying gave a wry smile.
At that moment, other Security Officers hurried over:
"Chen Ying, are you okay?"
"Thank heavens, you weren't hit!"
"Get up quickly, were you scared to death just now!"
"I wasn't hit??"
Chen Ying was shocked, and instinctively felt her chest; indeed there was no injury!
"Strange, it shouldn't have happened!"
"I clearly felt that I was shot."
"Could it be that…"
Suddenly, her finger brushed the edge of the talisman. It still retained heat, with a faint burnt smell.
"Did the talisman save me?"
Chen Ying's heart leapt as she recalled Jiangnan's expression when he handed her the talisman.
He seemed convinced that he was destined for a blood‑shed disaster!
"Who… exactly is he?"
Chen Ying was filled with doubt.
At that moment, the Security Officers had surrounded her.
"Chen Ying, how do you feel?"
They asked anxiously.
Chen Ying shook her head, indicating she was fine.
She struggled to stand, discovering she was completely unharmed.
"I'm fine, continue the pursuit!"
Her voice was weak, yet full of resolve.
The Security Officers exchanged bewildered looks, their eyes full of disbelief.
They clearly saw Chen Ying get shot; how could she be okay?
But now is not the time to think about that.
They acted immediately, continuing the chase of the fleeing robbers.
Chen Ying stood where she was, looking at the now‑dull talisman in her hand, her mind unable to settle for a long while.
She knew the talisman had saved her life.
And that mysterious man, Jiangnan, grew even more enigmatic.
"Who… is he really?"
She murmured to herself, her eyes flashing with complex light.
The night remained deep.
And this bank robbery had only just begun.
Behind it, a greater secret lay hidden, waiting for people to uncover.
…
In the Public Security Bureau conference room, the atmosphere was as heavy as frozen ice.
Yang Ju's face was as black as the bottom of a pot, with sparks flashing in his eyes, as if he could set a person alight.
"Useless! A bunch of useless!"
He slammed the table hard, shaking the teacups so they jumped.
"You caught a few robbers, and what happened? Huh? They ran away again!"
"And they injured our people!"
"Do you even want your faces anymore? Huh?"
Yang Ju's voice thundered, booming through the conference room.
The Security Officers below all bowed their heads, daring not even to breathe.
This case is really too tricky.
The robbers are as cunning as loaches, slick and impossible to catch.
Moreover, they are equipped with fine weapons and have heavy firepower.
After several skirmishes, the Security Officer side has taken losses.
"Yang Ju, these robbers aren't simple,"
A senior Security Officer, mustering the courage to speak.
"They are well‑trained, coordinated, and clearly veterans."
"Moreover, the weapons they use are rare models on the market, with unknown origins."
"Nonsense! Don't I know they're not simple?"
Yang Ju roared.
"What I want is results! Results!"
The conference room fell into a death‑like silence again.
Everyone looks at me, I look at everyone, and none of us knows what to do.
