Chapter 190: Lin Qingya is Dead

~8 min read 1,442 words

Cheng Wan and Qin Yun Shu came out of the hospital room one after the other.

Cheng Wan knew that no matter how she asked, Qin Yun Shu would not admit it.

Therefore, she simply did not speak.

After Chu Li came out of the doctor's office, he went to see Cheng Han.

Cheng Han asked him, "Did you not find either of them?"

"No."

Chu Li still recounted the matter of Cheng Huade threatening Lin Qingya; as for what Cheng Han decided, that was his own business.

"I will help you stabilize things at the company; you should focus on recovering from your injuries."

Cheng Han closed his eyes, "Many thanks."

"News of Cheng Huade has already been sent back; it is estimated that people from the Cheng Family will arrive in the next day or two," Chu Li reminded his friend.

"I know," Cheng Han nodded, "After so many years, some things must be made clear."

"I have one more thing to discuss with you..."

Chu Li and Cheng Wan left the Yiyuan.

On the way back, no one spoke.

Halfway there, Assistant Wu answered a phone call.

He looked back and said, "President Chu, we found her."

Cheng Wan had been listlessly leaning against the window with her eyes closed to rest, but she sat up straight immediately upon hearing this.

"Found who?" she pressed.

"It is Miss Lin."

The palm of Cheng Wan's hand, resting on her knee, suddenly clenched tight.

Qingya.

They had found Qingya.

"Is she... how is she?" Cheng Wan felt a blockage in her heart; even though she knew the result might not be good, she still had to ask.

Assistant Wu was silent for two seconds, his tone full of pity, "Please accept my condolences."

Two words summarized everything.

Cheng Wan's vision went black, and her ears were filled with a buzzing sound, making it impossible for her to hear anything else.

Even though she knew that under such circumstances, Lin Qingya's chances were slim, she had still held onto a tiny bit of hope.

"Wanwan." Chu Li held her hand tightly and pulled her into his embrace, his chin resting against the crown of her head.

"I am here, Wanwan."

"She is dead." Cheng Wan broke down and sobbed aloud.

The corners of Chu Li's eyes were moist as he held Cheng Wan tightly with both arms.

"I know, I know everything."

Cheng Wan cried for a long time, soaking a patch of Chu Li's shirt.

Finally, she managed to control her emotions, "Where is she? I want to see her."

She had to see Lin Qingya one last time.

Assistant Wu said, "She has already been sent to the morgue. Madam, Miss Lin's appearance is somewhat... not good. You should perhaps..."

"I want to go," Cheng Wan interrupted Assistant Wu.

No matter what Lin Qingya had become, she had to go.

Chu Li spoke up, "Go."

He took a bottle of water and handed it to Cheng Wan, "Drink some water first to calm down. Lin Qingya still needs you."

Cheng Wan took a couple of distracted sips, her mind feeling like mush.

A few minutes later, Chu Li carefully laid Cheng Wan down to rest on his lap.

Cheng Wan closed her eyes, her breathing steady.

Assistant Wu couldn't bear it and asked in a low voice, "President Chu..."

Chu Li glanced at him, his gaze cold, "Send more people to continue the search."

He looked down at Cheng Wan, his expression softening, and as he gently stroked her pale cheek, a bitter smile appeared on his lips.

"She hasn't had a good rest in days; I cannot watch her waste away like this because of Lin Qingya."

Cheng Wan was too tired.

Yet she refused to rest.

Chu Li had no choice but to lie.

A moment of pain was better than a lifetime of pain.

Therefore, he had intentionally let Assistant Wu say that Lin Qingya was dead, to cut off that lingering hope of Cheng Wan's.

"Prepare for the funeral," Chu Li ordered in a low voice.

Assistant Wu agreed, but couldn't help asking one more thing, "If Madam finds out the truth..."

"If anyone dares to leak a word of this, do not blame me for being heartless."

"Yes."

When Cheng Wan woke up, she was lying in the Yiyuan.

She stared at the ceiling in a daze for a while, and once it hit her, she bolted upright.

Qingya.

Qingya is dead.

She had to see Lin Qingya one last time.

She rushed to the door, just in time to run into Chu Li, who was pushing it open.

"Wanwan, you're awake." Chu Li supported her arm.

Cheng Wan grabbed his arm, her tone urgent, "Where is Qingya?"

Chu Li half-forced her to sit on the sofa, then crouched before her and said in a low voice, "Lin Qingya has already been cremated; today is her funeral."

"What?" Cheng Wan widened her eyes, "I didn't even get to see her, I..."

"Wanwan, you have been in a coma for two days."

Cheng Wan froze.

She had slept for two days?

"Lin Qingya had been soaking in the water for several days and couldn't be kept any longer, so she was cremated." Chu Li said the facts as calmly as he could, "I will take you to the funeral."

Lin Qingya had few friends or family while alive, so the funeral was very simple.

By the time Cheng Wan arrived, the funeral had already ended.

Assistant Wu was in the middle of handing over matters with the cemetery staff.

Looking at Lin Qingya, who was smiling like a flower in the photograph, Cheng Wan felt a deep sorrow in her heart, her legs went weak, and she nearly fell.

"Wanwan, you must hold on." Chu Li held her, offering her support.

Cheng Wan pushed Chu Li away; she stumbled forward and knelt before the tombstone.

Her fingers trembled as she stroked the photo on the tombstone,

and tears streamed down like rain.

"Qingya."

She sobbed uncontrollably.

Chu Li stood to the side, looking up toward the distance.

If Cheng Wan knew the truth, she would definitely blame him.

But he could not watch Cheng Wan's physical condition get worse and worse.

He had no choice but to do this.

I'm sorry, Wanwan.

After more than ten minutes, he slowly stepped forward and picked Cheng Wan up.

"Wanwan, you must cherish your own body, otherwise Lin Qingya will not be at peace if she sees you so sad for her."

Cheng Wan stopped her struggling movements.

She gripped Chu Li's clothes tightly, her knuckles turning white.

Finally, she let go listlessly, closed her eyes, and did not say another word.

Chu Li breathed a sigh of relief and carried her back to the car.

He brought her back to Beicheng Villa.

When getting out of the car, he also carried her down and sent her to the master bedroom.

Chu Li kissed Cheng Wan's forehead, "Sleep for a while, I'll call you when dinner is ready."

He walked away quickly.

Cheng Wan lay on the soft bed, her fingers clutching the quilt, and tears fell once again.

Her heart was a wasteland of emptiness and confusion.

She wanted to cry, but could not.

It was as if the world had suddenly gone dark.

When Chu Li finished his business and returned to the room, Cheng Wan was already up; she was curled up on the recliner by the window, lying on her side, looking exceptionally lonely.

Chu Li's heart gave a sharp twitch.

He pursed his thin lips, walked over on tiptoe, covered her forehead with his large palm, and asked gently.

"Why are you sleeping here?"

Cheng Wan's gaze was as calm as water.

It was not the usual kind of calm, but one of loneliness and despair, and therefore, it was completely devoid of ripples.

Chu Li's heart skipped a beat, and he couldn't help but grab her wrist, "Wanwan, look at me."

Cheng Wan then raised her head to look at him.

If it were usual times, she would have struggled to avoid his touch.

But at this moment, she let him hold her hand, neither struggling nor angry.

A sense of unease crossed Chu Li's heart.

He clearly sensed that she had changed.

She had become lifeless and full of despair.

Chu Li swallowed hard; he knew that Lin Qingya's death must have been a huge blow to Cheng Wan.

But he had not expected the blow to be this great.

It was as if she no longer had the will to live.
