In the waning years of Wang Mang's Xin Dynasty, a young man awakens from a deadly illness to find himself in a world both familiar and strange. Diwu Lun, a seventeen-year-old from a declining noble family in Guanzhong, carries the memories of a modern life cut short. Now, he must navigate an empire in turmoil, where the Emperor's obsessive reforms have thrown the realm into chaos.

Rather than bury himself in the Confucian classics at the Imperial Academy, Diwu Lun makes a shocking choice: he publicly yields his hard-won place to a rival clan's son, trading scholarly pursuits for the harsh realities of survival. As famine looms and bandit armies stir, Diwu Lun begins training in martial arts and forging connections with merchants and wandering swordsmen, convinced that practical skills will matter more than poetry in the coming storm. With a grandfather furious at his defiance and officials suspicious of his motives, he must prove that his path is not folly but foresight, laying the groundwork for a new kind of power in an age of collapse.
